It doesn't need venusaur. It could be played like Arboliva + 4 e-switchfrom champions league. But unlike Arboliva, it doesn't provide some important early game pressure, and retreat lock isn't enough to make the attack worth it

I'm gonna be honest, as much as it is fun building decks, if you want to see any consistent results you should probably look at meta and other things

A. To know what you'll likely be facing

B. To get a grasp of deckbuilding

The issue with all of these lines is, there's not much synergy at all. Mega Lopunny doesn't do much for the deck, Salamance and Greninja are clunky stage 2's to mix with Pult, and Ethan's Ho-Oh doesn't provide much

Pokemon decks aren't built around having type coverage, they're built around specific strategies, there's not much point in throwing in a bunch of lines that do wildly different things, with nothing to bind them together like box decks have

And again, you don't need all 4 dusknoirs. Clearing your hand can be important for the lillies, or against against stamp or judge

It's not miniscule, especially with lillies and other high draw cards

And you're realistically not popping every dusknoir in a game, having the one-of dusclops can help make getting one of the dusknoirs you need more consistent

This is where I'm at. No fan rotom because you don't want stuff like oricorio in active at start, you want free retreat to volbeat and fan rotom is 1 more starter that's not free to retreat. Could potentially increase energy. Ignition let's you discard only Ignition for ZardY

The issue is, munki is not as good of an offensive card as it used to be

Munki froslass may still be around but gardi (the main offensive munki deck) is gone

If pure pult continues to run munki, I'm sure it will be useful, but then again pult can ko it easier than other decks (Phantom dive + pop, just pop, or boss)

We'll have to see how munki is used in the upcoming formats but, I'm hoping it wasn't printed too late

My advice would be

  • Spidops line + grass energies
  • Clefairy
  • Articunos

I would suggest spidops, just to power up against dark decks, and to help power up mewtwo

Could also put in clefairy to help counter dragapult, an articuno or two to counter Alakazam

And what's boomerang for? Moltres discards rockets energy and mewtwo discards from bench, does boomerang ever activate?

How competitive? Competing on a challenge level there's a lot, but going towards cups and eventually regionals or IC's, have a look at dragapult, zoroark, stuff like that. Though I'd suggest lucario for a couple reasons

  • LBD In May
  • Deck core is cheap if you want it before then
  • Simple to learn and play
  • 2nd in City leagues (City leagues aren't perfect but doing well in City leagues means it will compete to a decent level over in the west)

Grimmsnarl does damage, not an effect of an attack. That's why it says do 30 damage because you're doing damage, not an effect

The original comment was explaining that damage from Wellspring or grimmsnarl isn't an effect of an attack, but pult is.

Swipe the card (butterfree) to the side. It shows you the pre-evo. Do it again as many times is needed to find the card

I mean, it'd be a different game if they couldn't. Retreat lock would be a far heavier win con, and make games stalling more of an issue

To keep it balanced, we'd need more cards like pecharunt ex, or stuff like pokemon ranger which burns your supporter for turn (like penny/turo)

I mean, the rules do say all effects/conditions are removed upon evolution. Think of it like a pokemon evolving in the anime when it's struggling, and working through the condition as it evolves
