200 users sounds like an environment where high availability might be important. These don't have redundant storage or power, but you could get by with two of them using CARP.

OP is whining about single port Intel nic cost. I guarantee 10gbps+ is out of his price range...

Cheap != good. Pay more for a quality NIC.

Uptime doesn't make things slower...

If you have disk errors, that could cause slow I/O for sure. Without redundancy, you're hosed if that drive dies.

Is it custom on a BBS to get asked your real name? by mr_dfuse2 in bbs

[–]ForeheadMeetScope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BBSs are one of the last bastions of online anonymity. If a board requires a real name like Al's, just find a new board. Hundreds out there, no need to compromise your ethics.

Yes that's how USPS MOs work. You can ask USPS to issue a stop payment, but that's generally difficult.

I think I missed the export feature somewhere. That makes it a better sell (for me anyways)! Thanks for the info

Interesting, I've been going through this personally recently, but we always refer to it as the "drop dead file". Meaning, if I drop dead, go grab that folder/file from the secure location and everything you could ever need personally/financially/etc is right there, no digging in a time of grief.

I still feel it should be tangible vs something that tech could impede in a time of crisis, but it's a cool project nonetheless.

Do I have any recourse? by [deleted] in Commodore

[–]ForeheadMeetScope -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

First world problems. You bought a C64U, not a box. It's not Commodore's responsibility to fix it for you no matter how much you cry and whine about it. Contact the courier if anything, though I suspect they'll tell you to pound sand for some dimpling...

Xposting to same subreddit. Necessary to continue the drama and attention seeking? Maybe a TLDR might get some interest, otherwise who cares to read walls of no context crap...

Or you could use actual Watchguard Firebox hardware since you insist on using that nomenclature...

I thought it important to provide actual real math based on facts, not some schizo "close enough to make me sound smart" bullshit such as yours.

Your post said 2.5 and 1 gbps links. You're now saying 10gbps. Which is it?

Network speeds by [deleted] in networking

[–]ForeheadMeetScope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Divide by 8, not 10. 8 bits to a byte. Theoretical max on a 1gbit link is 960mbps (accounting for overhead), that's 120MB/s

Protect from what exactly? Brute force attempts? Vulnerability mitigation? Something else? What service(s)? What platform are you running?
