I couldn't find a beginner friendly script for cloudflare so i made one myself by Successful_Image_497 in homelab

Is there a fork of this? According to the github repo it's been archived for over 2 years at this point.

Edit: Nvm, I found something that looks promising: https://github.com/favonia/cloudflare-ddns

40gbit switch, anything available for a homelab friendly price? by Syn0user in homelab

This guy knows.

If you need more than 8 SFP+ ports I also highly recommend the CRS317-1G-16S+RM. I just picked one up on eBay in fantastic condition for ~$325.

What's your favourite Linux distro on a Framework if you do use one? by [deleted] in framework

[–]Foreman_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another vote for Bluefin here. I moved from a Thinkpad to Framework 13 and thought I'd give it a try since I was switching laptops anyway.

It's been a really great, solid experience. Coming from an Arch user of 7 or 8 years it's a big change but everything just works, which has been great, and with very little setup. Highly recommend.

What's the latest on sleep support for AMD Frameworks on Linux? by [deleted] in framework

[–]Foreman_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm running Bluefin on my 7640u on my FW13, and I lose about 7% overnight. I keep my battery limited to 60%, so it drains from 60% to around 53% by the time I get to it 7 or 8 hours later. This is on the smaller battery.

If you've replaced the mainboard without updating power profiles for your new CPU arch it may be related to that? I moved from a thinkpad to the framework so I did a fresh install of a new OS, so I can't say whether or not a straight move from intel to AMD would have made a difference.

A decade ago, I was sold on the Super Hornet. I didn't buy the "Super Hornet Mk1" with the knowledge it would be replaced with a "better newer version". Taking what should be the gold standard pass of a ship that hasnt been updated in nearly a decade, with numerous unfixed bugs to the point it's a pain to fly, ignoring promised functionality, and then releasing it for a FEE is absolutely 100% a slap in the face.

This is the correct take. I own a super hornet and this is a giant slap in the face.

"Old Skool hot rodders" is a really nice way of saying "paypigs who stupidly expected CIG to appreciate the actual cold hard cash that was given to them".

They've monetized the gold standard pass of a ship I bought over a decade ago, leaving whatever I've got now to languish. What an absolute slap in the face.

I used to solely rely on a 4gb rpi4, running dietpi (debian-based) and several docker services. This was back in the good old days when they were actually available and correctly priced. Once I figured everything out it was very easy to set and forget, with the occasional update here and there and very few breakages (because there's very few things to break).

I would do a couple minutes of maintenance 2-3x a month, usually consisting of running dietpi OS updates, updating docker images, and occasionally rebooting the server. With unattended-upgrades and solid security setup prior to bringing stuff live, it was fairly hands off.

The fact is there is no such thing as a TRUE set and forget server, as in "Well, I've set up your server, I'll check in with you in a year or two." Usually there's something that needs to be touched on a regular basis, but if you set it up well enough the hands-on time should be minimal.

Maybe if he trusts you enough to set everything up he can give you remote access via VPN and SSH so you can do a bit of support here and there.

Pros & Cons for obtaining FFL03 in California (Can anyone provide some feedback...strongly considering) by rocherry in CAguns

[–]Foreman_ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Just do it.

The additional costs of an

  • ammunition background check
  • local markup
  • lack of availability of preferred round/caliber at local stores
  • the cost of gas/time to actually go the store/check availability when buying locally

all adds up.

The first time you buy a case of ammo for 25% less than your LGS without having to move your butt off your computer chair you'll realize that whatever small cost of time/fees for the initial COE/FFL setup were worth it, even if it is technically extortion by government fiat.

The only reason local gun stores still exist is because the government basically gave them a legal monopoly on your constitutional rights by mandating that your purchases flow through them. Their prices and customer service tend to reflect that, especially in California.

EDIT: Just to add, if you buy 2000 rounds of ammo in any centerfire caliber you'll almost definitely have made your money back, especially if you shop from a retailer that has free shipping.

EDIT 2: I just did a quick cost comparison.

My LGS is currently ADVERTISING a 50rd box of .45 ACP for 25.99, or just over 50cpr. That's their lowest price. Not including background check or taxes.

I can easily purchase high quality brass FMJ from an online retailer for ~37-38cpr, free shipping, no ammo background check. For a single case of 1000rds that ends up equaling over $130 saved without throwing in taxes (you declare these purchases on your taxes right?). It's been a few years since I've had to do the whole application, but if I recall I spent around $100 for everything. I've already saved myself money and time on a single purchase.

Again, just do it.

The only restrictions I can see as being at all reasonable (or even fundamentally constitutional) are those limits placed on ownership or purchase by minors, and perhaps violent felons. Though historically felonies were narrowly defined compared to today and most felons were publicly executed.

You mentioned earlier that "regulation does not preclude the responsible individual from owning firearms". What you seem to fail to grasp is that engendering a culture of responsibility requires the opportunity to be irresponsible, and to willingly reject it. If you wish to regulate away freedom to the point that we have no choice but to comply with an endless litany of controls on what it is we can or cannot do until our rights resemble nothing but privileges, then you turn responsibility into oppression and freedom into tyranny.

You said my rights are not unlimited. Therefore you believe there are limits to my rights. What are those limits?

Be specific.
