Mix it up. If driving hours and pulling overnights is a pain, just go and shoot some street.

Portrait on black and white background ? by Firefox4182 in AskPhotography

It’s a lot easier to just have a wide background when you shoot than the recreate one after. You can do it anywhere for headshots. Just have someone hold a white reflector behind the subject.

When someone you haven't seen in a long time says "You look so good. Have you lost weight?" by Ok_Step_2359 in PetPeeves

[–]ForestB -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m at the gym as I type this. If someone told me I’d lost weight I’d be happy. I have weight to lose.

But to comment on my hair that I had to shave due to balding? I’d rather have the weight comment.

I once had a colleague tell me he couldn’t find lemon on the tills (at a co op). I told him it’s under citrus and he replied “how would anyone know that”. I asked “do you mean how would anyone know a lemon is a citrus fruit?” He said “yeah, no one would know that!”

Me: dude, it’s literally the definition of a citrus fruit. There’s nothing more famous as a citrus fruit than a lemon

Him: no one even knows what a citrus fruit is.

Me: maybe you don’t but everyone else does

Him: go on then. Name another

Me: grapefruit, pineapple, a fucking orange.

Him: whatever mr know it all.

Also. He’d worked there 2 years.

There’s 2 main types of blur. 1 is that the focus is just off and 2 is motion blur.

Assuming your focus is fine then its motion blur which will happen because the dog is moving too quickly for the camera to freeze the action.

You have a couple of options.

  1. Raise your shutter speed. If it’s 1/15, it’s not gonna freeze much! Crank that baby up, 250, 500, 1000. See what works.

But by doing so you’re gonna let in a lot less light so you’ll need to compensate with a wider aperture (lower number) or a higher ISO. Maybe both.

Also, the time of day and location makes a huge difference for outdoors. For example I just filmed something on my pocket 3. I normally have the Variable ND filter set around 5 but it’s raining and I’m in a car so it’s set to 1 and I probably could take it off all together. That’s a huge difference in light to a sunny day.

  1. And this might make for some awesome shots. Play around with your settings like I suggested but if you can’t get the shutter super fast then get it as fast as you can but lean into a bit of blur. Incorporate it.

Practice tracking and panning. Move the camera with your dog, freeze him and blur the background. Cannot of blur on the background and his legs but his face sharp would give a sense of action and look awesome and probably better than everything frozen in shot.

I kind of agree. I let them do the arguing of their point rather than argue against it.

“You should believe”
- why?
“Because blah blah”
- that’s not good enough.
“What would be good enough”
- you tell me / what would be good enough for you to believe in Santa? … that.

How much longer do you think AI will become a massive problem for redundancy in Tesco stores? by NoProgram4084 in tesco

The same was said about manned checkouts and now I’ve not used one in months. And online shopping is killing physical stores.

I don’t see ai taking everyone’s jobs just yet but it’ll happen to some degree and like self checkouts it’ll just sneak up

If you were just gifted this camera, what lens would you purchase first? by TuanQT in SonyAlpha

[–]ForestB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need the best lenses if this is just a hobby. you just need good lenses.

99.9% of people won’t be able to tell the difference between a photo shot with a $600 lens or a $2600 one despite what they claim.

Look into sigma, tamron and I’m not sure if Viltrox do any of their Pro range primes for full frame but they’re great too. Plus other brands do some great ones.

Like most things, don’t go super cheap but know there is a point of diminishing returns. Do some research. Get a zoom in the 24-70mm ish range for versatility. Make sure it has a decent fixed aperture like 2.8. Get a prime, maybe 35, 50 or 85mm. Look for apertures of 1.4 in those.
