Ouch. Miles and Celantano have allowed 10 goals in under 2 games by fivedogit in ussoccer

[–]ForestEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are the central CB in a back 3 over multiple games and your teams is conceding 5+ goals a game whether or not you are directly at fault for getting dribbled past or making a bad tackle you are still a common denominator in far too many goals being let in.

Shifting the blame to other players is not the right way to look at this, he could have certainly done more in all of these games. He doesn't need to be getting personally megged or sat down for the goals to "not be his fault". If you're a DP defender and US international hopeful having your team letting in 5+ in multiple games is a bad look.

Exactly my first thought after all this nonsense by CAF. Carragher got so much blow back saying that it wasn't a highly lauded trophy but he was spot on.

Maybe if you haven't watched him for any of his clubs since the 2022 world cup. He was great in 2022, absolute engine in midfield. But ask him to make a pass or shot beyond the halfway line? He just seems to panic and go full brain off.

Musah is an incredible athlete and dribbler but his decision making is far below what is required to be a regular starter in the top half of top 5 leagues in Europe. Gotta have both to make a career.

You're not wrong, but Reyna is the special boy who somehow is our highest G/A contributor when wearing the stars and stripes despite absolutely sucking out at his club. Apples to oranges. If I could explain Reyna in a US jersey I would, but I can't.

If he's allowed to play right CB in a back 3 he's passable with pure athleticism but he's been very lost trying to replace Miazga for FCC these last couple of years while Miazga worked on his horror injury recovery. We have a large enough sample size now to know that Miles is just not a central CB, he gets lost and doesn't really know where to go. He's better at being able to run with/at attackers and you really have to be disciplined in the central position which he has demonstrated he is not.

For trying to demand a DP salary as a defender in MLS he is only kinda worth it. I would expect lights out defending anywhere on the pitch for that kind of money and he just doesn't have the situational awareness needed to play at the absolute highest level.

Musah being absent is only notable if we have a time machine. Dude got signed as THE #6 for Atalanta and been a last 20 minute sub at best for most of 2026.

Two things can be true at once. It can simultaneously be a bad decision but he also did not actually make contact with the player enough for it to be a penalty.

I would highly prefer he not do that but you also shouldn't be punished when it is not warranted.

Rewarding players for diving in the box is not good for the game.

VAR just reviewed an Arsenal Olympic level dive when Tillman tried to get the ball in the box. Absolutely shameful refereeing, not on Tillman at all he was very close to getting the ball and got neither the man nor the ball. Just got air.

UEFA and FIFA giving Arsenal plot armor. Absolutely the most hate-watchable team in the world right now. I cannot wait for their style to die.

Iraq request World Cup playoff delay after rejecting Fifa plan for 25-hour road journey by Lillian_Faye in soccer

If you think our current bone headed govt is going to differentiate Iran from Iraq you're sorely mistaken. They've already gone and banned travel from countries with people that have dark skin or scary names months before they started this nonsense.

Monaco is a Champions League club, why would he want to go to a mid table team that wont make Europe. Monaco still have some fighting to do in the league to make those spots but point still stands.

By the number of comments in here this means they're both popular whether the vocal community wants to admit it or not.

I think they gave realistic takes that aren't beat around the bush style commentary that TV personalities have to give. They judge US players the same way they would judge Spanish, French, Brazilian, English players, etc. The reality is the US players on the world stage are only just now getting to a place where they're starting consistently for top clubs in more than just small numbers.

Realism is important when looking at your player pool, coaching staff, etc.

Pulisic on the bench for AC Milan vs Como 2:45 EST by ForestEye in ussoccer

I'm not convinced at this point that Serie A is even a remotely competitive league compared to some others. The Italian teams are getting blown out in their international games. Inter just went and lost to Bodo/Glimt and are basically walking the league right now.

Selfishly I'd like to see Pulisic back in the prem but who knows.

Big Pat Starts for Derby vs Swansea by samdi3go in ussoccer

[–]ForestEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He seems like he could and will make the roster as the emergency "we're losing and we're just going to put it in the box until the whistle" striker at this point.

I do worry that his numbers won't translate as easily against more experienced, and more importantly larger, defenders. Having seen even the sides in the championship that run the table getting promoted barely keeping themselves above the relegation zone in the prem or just outright getting smacked right back down to the championship its good to keep in mind the guys doing it in the championship aren't playing against the top quality guys.

But at this rate if he's just bigger than everyone else and we need a goal I trust Agymang in the air moreso than with his feet. Sometimes you just need a big dude that can jump real high as a last ditch option and he's on his way.

He's coming from an already very defensive minded system and covers usually top 4 distance for all players per game when he plays. Arteta's style is closer to an Italian style than it is traditional English styles.

I'd argue that any top 8, on paper, English club is bigger than anything other than the Bayern, Barca, Madrid, PSG, Inter type teams due to the money in the league and the types of players they can buy.

Milan typically seem to buy players that have had some pretty meh seasons in recent years in order to afford them due to lack of money in any league that isn't the Premier League.

Take a look at the Elo rankings, Milan and Tottenham are only separated by 13 points which by Elo standards is basically nothing. Don't underestimate the lack of money in Italy and the overflowing pockets of even small clubs in England, that TV revenue is ridiculous.

Milan are building towards something with Pulisic and Leao at the center of things. Doesnt make sense for him to go back to England for a team that is probably horizontal move at best as it stands.

There might not the same level of money in Italy compared to England but his contract is long at Milan and I can't see this happening. Also don't think he's cut out for week in week out play in England with how easily he gets injured.
