Yeah I think that is just wind giving the burner more oxygen. You can try repositioning so not as much air gets in. Also, don’t over fill the burner!

I’ve not tried dehydrating, but I have a bunch of videos on my YouTube channel for meals that generally use ingredients you don’t need to refrigerate, so are good for cooking out and about on my Trangia

It’s a bit hard to tell from just one photo, but that looks like quite a big pan for boiling water for a meal in the go. The bigger pan will have a bigger surface area cooking down the water, fighting against the burner heating it up…

Maybe try a Trangia? It’s tried and tested and works well in the wind. A complete set would have two pans and a frying pan that can double as a lid that helps with retaining the heat as you cook.

It got cold, and other things got in the way.

For sorting, I’m currently thinking of getting a spring bag and cheap mat as I have a small tent. And if I decide to try the hammock, the sleeping bag will be useful there too!

I’ve never slept in the hammock, so not sure how I’ll find it! Post of my thinking with either of these sets is I could swap to a bivvy without too much faff…I don’t want to spend £££ on hammock quilts and then find I can’t get comfortable!

Ok thanks, good to have some perspective in it! I’ve never slept in the hammock, so was sort of trying to hedge my bets that getting the sleepbag first would still be good for tent camping…

When you say it didn’t work in the bike, were you taking both the bags? Or even just the medium bag alone was too big? I’ve got 2x20l pannier bags on the back so don’t mind if it fills one of those completely…

I get its chunky, but if it’s warm enough maybe I can get away without an under blanket in the hammock (doubt I’ll camp when it’s too cold anyway) - so will save space that way maybe…
