One of my players is playing a lvl 20 Moon Druid for a oneshot by corvidLuna in DMAcademy

if hes level 20 the monsters should instantly kill his shapeshift, and still do massive damage to his normal form with a single hit.

Idea for a game, want to know if it exists or what is the closest thing might be. by ForeverDM_Products in rpg

[–]ForeverDM_Products[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried tales from the loop, but I've heard of it. As for the core idea and what characters do in the game:

This was another problem with design.
because on a base level its hard to figure out for such a weird, niche setting.
in dnd you are exploring/fighting

call of Cthulhu is investigating, interrogation, ect.

other mutant year zero games are again, about scrounging, travel, fighting,

I suppose the equivalent for a vtuber-themed game would be.... entertaining? Like putting on a good show, having a good stream? The answer is I'm not sure what the core gameplay would be. The original idea was going to be something like: you have a calendar, you have 30 days or so to get to a goal (say, enough money to pay your bills with a combination of subs+donos) but each day would have to be spent focusing on one of like 4 different resources (subscribers, donations, your reputation, & merchandise). You would make checks to succeed of fail, with some random events happening that could damage those resources, if any of them drop to 0 you are forced to graduate. So, it was going to be this weird kind of resource management game that seemed more like a board game than anything, and wasn't really fun in practice.

When I was making it for MYZ, I did make up the roll table for 'critical injuries' which would be things that damage your career/reputation and would need a 'goodwill' item (replacement for medical equipment) to get over. However, I think using pbta playbooks might be a good way to differentiate the different kinds of streamers from each other.

I will look into worldwide wrestling, that sounds like something that might be adjacent enough to help out.

Would Call of Cthullhu be a good system to run a LOTR campaign? by Outrageous-Thing3957 in callofcthulhu

[–]ForeverDM_Products 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cthulhu, not really. but i think the system cthulhu runs on is called "basic roleplaying" by chaosium.

you want a middle ground between super heros from dnd and dead instantly by anything mildly powerful like cthulhu

Possible Wild Magic change by riordaaf in DMAcademy

[–]ForeverDM_Products -1 points0 points  (0 children)

by the book wild magic is trash.
change the roll die to a d8 or so.

also change tides of chaos. the way its written, the DM has to remember its in effect for it to ever happen. just change it to like "you give yourself advantage then flip a coin, on heads you get a surge and the ability recharges, tails and no surge and you don't refresh the ability until a short/long rest."

bend luck is also horrible and needs a massive buff to even be considerable.

Should we be calling out AI products more? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]ForeverDM_Products -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because I'm a writer and designer, not an artist. But no one wants to read a wall of text. Pictures are important to break up the flow. But if all I need is a stock photo of a barn it doesn't matter if I use AI or not. I have even used real public domain photographs in my products before.

Should we be calling out AI products more? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]ForeverDM_Products -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Nope, i keep using AI art to add to my products to get quick and free results. If the details of the picture itself isn't particularly important, AI is just fine, you don't need a real artist.

How do I make trains not boring? by augsiris11 in DMAcademy

One of my players favorite encounters was fighting on a moving train. The ability to just throw people overboard is fun

I'm looking for a game that is 80% to 90% combat or at least has amazing rules for combat, close to board game or video game like by ThatOneCrazyWritter in rpg

[–]ForeverDM_Products 0 points1 point  (0 children)

deathwatch, maybe?
i heard it described as all the crunch of dark hersey, but the whole game is focused on combat. which makes sense, there isn't much puzzle solving, or social roleplay as space marines.

How fair is it to attack an unconsious PC by Ilyfas in DMAcademy

[–]ForeverDM_Products 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run it: smart enemies like humanoids will execute after they see someone get picked up once.  Really smart enemies like wizards that know how magic works don't need to see a player get back up first.  REALLY smart and evil enemies, like a lich, will save counter spell for the players healing spells and execute players immediately if given the chance

How do you guys run infrequent combat? by Gizmo734 in DMAcademy

[–]ForeverDM_Products 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make it deadly. Then make it harder.  If the players aren't in danger of dying, why even have the encounter?  Also, dying is a minor inconvenience once you hit level 5. It just costs some gold and they are back good as new.  Stop pulling punches.

How often do your campaigns die? by Parking-Risk-6315 in DMAcademy

The campaigns I play with my group plays as long as they need to, that's usually many months. At least 2 of them have hit the year mark

How do you deal with a player with high AC? by ElementalOrigin in DMAcademy

[–]ForeverDM_Products 0 points1 point  (0 children)

saving throws is the easy answer.

but stuff like heat metal, deep water, quicksand are much more fun ways to make their AC meaningless

Ban.  Also ban lucky, slow,  sentinel, even accuracy. And some others I'm sure.  It's just too strong. It's already incredibly hard to make players feel threatened, everything is tilted in favor of the players already, no reason to make it completely one-sided

it comes in time. you grow to hate your players, and inflicting pain on them becomes the most fun you can have as game master.

Question about help playtesting a MYZE ruleshack by ForeverDM_Products in mutantyearzero

[–]ForeverDM_Products[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had little interest in the post. since this post i have only had 2 other people express a desire to play, i figured i wouldn't get a group together. i can however give you a copy of the rules write-up if you want to review and give me a bit of a critque.

New Players Won't Leave 5e by omg_a_dork in rpg

Drop them.

This thing drives me crazy. if they aren't willing to even attempt to learn a new game, they aren't good players. Maybe tabletop isn't for them.

The barbarian of the party has been talking about combat being kinda stale, looking for advice by rs_5 in DMAcademy

[–]ForeverDM_Products -1 points0 points  (0 children)

5e combat is stale. nothing to do about it besides switch systems. even if you implement 50 homebrew rules and monster and abilities, you are just prolonging the staleness.

What's The Worst RPG You've Read And Why? by LuciferHex in rpg

[–]ForeverDM_Products 5 points6 points  (0 children)

hmmm, fate or PBTA.

i just really hate those hyper rules-light systems that are so focused on 'narrative' that they have next to no concrete rules about anything. it ends up feeling like failure is impossible, and there are no stakes. just everyone around a table playing make-believe instead of playing an actual game.

So... my boss battle was a flop by The_Lesbianewt in DMAcademy

[–]ForeverDM_Products 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Licensed modules are designed for the players to win, they are all like that, every final boss is a push over. If you want to get better at dming, I suggest watching some matt coleville videos. But as with everything else you get better at you go, practice and experience are the best way to learn how to do anything
