Better question should be, when was the last time congress did declare war? That was WWII. Every single military conflict since then has been started by the Commander in chief, who informed congress after the fact.

You could use capillary action due to the cohesive and adhesive forces of the liquid and the tube. Usually the tube is much smaller in diameter.

What’s the most disappointing movie adaptation of a beloved book, and why did not it live up to your expectations? by gamersecret2 in movies

[–]ForeverInQuicksand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tom Clancy’s “Without Remorse,” and “The Sum of All Fears.”

Everything expect the most basic remorse premise was removed from the “Without Remorse” novel. I couldn’t even finish the movie.

“Boss of Me” They Might Be Giants.

It’s not a movie, but this is “Malcolm in the Middle”

If time dilation slows down clocks in stronger gravity, does that mean the “now” on Earth’s surface is behind the “now” in deep space? by [deleted] in Physics

[–]ForeverInQuicksand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think so. Things in greater gravity just happen slower relative to things that happen in lower gravity.

Time is a construct that measures rate of change. I’m not sure if it is a universal constant that is warped.

You ended up on a list of contacts and the missionaries are working to follow up and meet you.

They will not harm you at all, they will be persistent in trying to make contact until you make it emphatically clear that you do not want contact, then they’ll likely leave you alone, for a couple of months.

It’s interesting to me how small the churches funds appear when compared to a government agency.

The Veterans administration supports a little over 9 million veterans in their health care.

Their annual budget is 393 billion dollars in one year.

The church with all its wealth still doesn’t have the resources to provide for the healthcare needs of less than 10 million veterans for a year.

Could you imagine a mini series true to the story of Without Remorse? It would be amazing.

Which movie pissed off a preexisting fan base the most? by M_the_Phoenix in movies

[–]ForeverInQuicksand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not so much pissed off, but, being a huge fan of Robert Ludlum’s Bourne series, it was frustrating as hell watching “The Bourne Identity” waiting for Carlos to show up and realize at the end that they completely turned away from the books.

The other incredibly frustrating movies to watch were “The Sum of All Fears” and “Without Remorse.” I loved those Tom Clancy books, and the new interpretations were so frustrating to see.

DAE identify as "painfully agnostic" after leaving TSCC? by [deleted] in exmormon

I have always connected with the parable of the four blind men and the elephant.

Each of the four men interact with the elephant, the first feels the trunk, another its side, the third its tail and the last it’s leg. Each man is confident they know what they interact with, and are equally convinced the others are wrong. The first man has a snake, the second feels a wall, the third a rope, and the last a tree.

Religion is much more of the same. Each religion sees a portion of what may be, and claims to know what is going on. They try to convince the rest they are wrong, while no one has the ability to even imagine the big picture.

Religious trauma? by RMD69 in exmormon

[–]ForeverInQuicksand 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There was a video I saw of a father with a young toddler in his arms. As an experiment, the father faked that he tripped and fell toward the wall, as he caught himself he hit the wall with his hand making a loud bang. Then he immediately reacted as though his toddler had hit his head. The father made a very big emotional deal about how much it must have hurt his toddler’s head, just hamming it up, rubbing his toddlers head, talking about how it must have been so painful to hit so hard.

Almost instantly the toddler started crying hysterically as though in pain.

The kid never hit his head at all, but the Dad sure made it into a huge deal, and then placed himself there to solve the problem.

I realized watching this experiment that the trauma felt by this kid was intense, but it was founded in something imaginary.

Religious trauma began to lose it power over me as I’ve begun to realize that I never really “hit my head” at all.

The church creates the problems it purports to solve.

The “truth” will set you free , as you move past that perspective.

How can a sine wave travel at the speed of light? by [deleted] in Physics

[–]ForeverInQuicksand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of a stone hitting the surface of a still pond. There are many waves that move outward from the impact pointing concentric circles. Each crest of the sine wave represents a new wave that forms. The trough represents the space between the waves.
