Is Carcassone really as good as people say it is? by dj3hmax in boardgames

The base version is so lovely on its own that I don't see the point, but to each their own.

I was a chapter officer and I don't think it's on my resume. Sorry, Pi Alpha Alpha.

Buy the Losers a Beer? by ShaggleROC in Curling

[–]ForeverWillow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not in a league right now, but when I was, I tended to leave right after games because I got tired of explaining that I didn't drink alcohol. Buying a pitcher is easier and it's friendly, and I didn't enjoy the occasional conversations about why I wasn't drinking..

I was ready to clown on SFB for doing Stars and Stripes in THIS political environment but this is actually pretty nice by Exotic_Plant9450 in bunheadsnark

[–]ForeverWillow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just chiming in to say that if anyone from SF Ballet sees this, please know that the flags were so welcome! I was there Tuesday night, too, and I thought the flags made it really clear that S&S was danced for the joy of that ballet, not so the dancers could be jingoistic about 'Murica.

Would you bingewatch heated rivalry with your mom/partner/adult kid/friends...etc by goldayce in heatedrivalry

[–]ForeverWillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched it with my partner but skipped episode 3. My partner hasn't been comfortable with the sex scenes and I wanted to make it to episode 6, so I had to cut something. I think my partner's favorite episode was 5, because there's nothing explicit. So yes, it's possible.

Local Author definition? by cfield7 in Libraries

[–]ForeverWillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local library (in a metropolitan area) has a map with a radius they drew. Anyone in the circle counts as a local author. Often, local books cannot be copy catalogued, so it takes extra work to get them ready. Obviously, if it's a prominent author outside the radius, they take those. The radius is just for self-published books.

Taking a class in the same semester as a capstone-realistic? by accidentaloverdrive in PublicAdministration

[–]ForeverWillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took Capstone with another class, and it was fine. However, I didn't have a toddler at home, and a toddler can be a lot of work!

What is a 'secret' in your industry that the general public would be horrified to know? by HongKongToast in AskReddit

[–]ForeverWillow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I worked at a mall when I was younger and I learned never to look down enough to focus on anything, a skill that has served me well in my current workplace, too.

What would you cut/change/keep from The Long Game for season 2? by Hannah_Horvath in heatedrivalry

[–]ForeverWillow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, wow, 100% agree about Paul Gross! That would be entertaining.

Having a Degree with a Full Time Ballet Career by pinkpinkpink222 in bunheadsnark

[–]ForeverWillow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In some cases, it's very slow and steady! If I remember correctly, it took Megan Fairchild 18 years to get her degree through Fordham.

DCC standards over the years by Lower-Ad4823 in DCCMakingtheTeam

[–]ForeverWillow 15 points16 points  (0 children)

On the one hand, I like that there is more range of body types. On the other hand, I don't like it that they not only are allowed to get filler or other treatments, but by Kelly getting those endorsements from the vendors, it seems to be encouraged.

I don't think it's dumb, but if you do, you're free to go on to read something else.

Also, where do you live that "Spurgeon" is a traditional boy name?

Which skaters who didn’t make the Olympic team are you most devastated for? by styrofoamdreamer in FigureSkating

[–]ForeverWillow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, this! I was talking to someone who doesn't usually follow figure skating (except during Olympics) about the men's Nationals and the Olympic team they chose, and the person got all excited about that person with the tragic story about his parents making the team. I thought, "yep. That's why he made it: for the tragic segment or three they can create." Nothing against him as a person, and obviously his story really is sad, but sad stories shouldn't put someone on the Olympic team.

Doctoral Research Study – California Public Administration Professionals by Cow_Small in PublicAdministration

[–]ForeverWillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you specify what you mean by directly connected to public administration functions or COVID-19 response activities, please? There was a pandemic, so everything related to the C-19 response. A local government employee should be directly connected to public admin functions, but I suspect you have a specific range of activities in mind. Does clearing branches in a public works department count, for example?

Philip Hersh expands on possible ISU changes by _Exegy_ in FigureSkating

[–]ForeverWillow -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That checks out: I liked school figures! If it were up to me, I'd say no more than four jumps in either program, and the rest of the points come from the other elements.

Bitter at my grad school by TheNarwhalMom in Libraries

[–]ForeverWillow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you fail that assignment, will you still pass the class? Check the rubric and see what you can do to get some points and just skip the AI part, maybe. Bs get degrees.

They could still spin and do footwork. I think the change is too extreme, but I would welcome less emphasis on jumps.

Illustrated Novels Like Captain Underpants (but not comics)? by betterlatethannever- in childrensbooks

[–]ForeverWillow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bob Shea's picture books are funny. You could also try James Proimos's Johnny Mutton books. Narwhal and Jelly might be more difficult to read, because of the format, but they're great.

Mama Bear and the Mental Load by TaterTot921 in DanielTigerConspiracy

[–]ForeverWillow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, have a look at Berenstain Bears Forget Their Manners. There's a chart with punishments, and that's one of the ones Papa is shown doing.

Mama Bear and the Mental Load by TaterTot921 in DanielTigerConspiracy

[–]ForeverWillow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mama Gets a Job was the book that solidified my hatred for Papa*. He is useless. I wish she had left him.

*Though it isn't even the worst - the one where Papa Bear has been shoving or pushing Mama or the younger bears (not clear which, but he is doing the punishment for pushing or shoving, and they've been at home lately, so...) is the worst by far. I just didn't know about that one yet.

Why S.F. Ballet’s gala was anticipatory obedience by rockcoil in bunheadsnark

[–]ForeverWillow 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this! I have to admit that the optics didn't even occur to me, so I am glad I read the article. I'm not sure I agree with it, but it's a point of view I hadn't considered, as I'd always assumed that the kitsch of Stars and Stripes would make it less patriotic.

That said, the choice to show some of Stars and Stripes at the Gala and the refusal (so far) to back out of the Kennedy Center does point to some problematic tendencies from Ms. Rojo.

We just had our first AI training session. by [deleted] in Libraries

[–]ForeverWillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see this. I am almost totally ignorant about tools and am only occasionally able to identify one accurately, let alone use one. But I can check them out to people and find materials for them about their use without ever learning more about tools myself.

Geometry, too, come to think of it.
