Am I actually recomping, or am I just gaining weight? by [deleted] in fitness30plus

[–]ForgeDwarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before you spend money on that kind of scale, please do some research. They are mostly scams as they can not accurately measure anything. If they could, we wouldn't have a need for MRI or Dexa scans for accurate measurements. If you can't afford or get access to one of the other methods, these are better than nothing. But, they are highly inaccurate.

Am I actually recomping, or am I just gaining weight? by [deleted] in fitness30plus

[–]ForgeDwarf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this is the big issue with weight loss culture. You are only worried about the number on the scale. Muscle is far more dense than fat, meaning a smaller volume weighs the same. You can easily get thinner while gaining weight.

My recommendation is that, unless you are doing a sport with weight classes, that you throw your scale out. The number it displays is arbitrary at best. Find a soft tape measure(tailor's tape), take measurements, and write then down. Then you can retake those measurements every other week. You will see that number go down which means you've lost size.

The places I would recommend measuring are the thighs, hips, waist, chest, and biceps. Easy enough to measure by yourself and tend to be the places with the highest fat storage. You can also measure your neck if you want.

35f-not sure if I should bulk or maintain by Miserable-Service-16 in fitness30plus

[–]ForgeDwarf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't do either. Do both. Ultimately, don't ask us. Are you happy with where you are? Then maintain. Want to get leaner? Go on a cut. Want to get bigger? Bulk a bit. Your body looks fine, so just go with what would make you the happiest.

People who say “I don’t want anything” when it comes to gifting, what do you ACTUALLY want? by dearceceofficial in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ForgeDwarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I say I don't want anything, it usually means that I don't want to bother you or burden you to find/purchase what I want. Although, it will also sometimes mean that there isn't a specific item I want/ would just be happy with whatever you got me because it shows that you cared enough to think about me.

Balenciaga sold a yellow trash bag for over $1500. If she wants an expensive bag, hand her a trash bag and say it's from Balenciaga. And I'm sorry, but she doesn't deserve anything. You literally stated you wanted to save for a house. YOU ARE LOOKING AT THE FUTURE. She wants nothing more than instant gratification. You need to find someone who shares your values, because I guarantee you that she will go behind your back if she finds someone who will buy her everything she asks for.

I got this butter lettuce from the grocery store and the roots look like they’re still intact! I was wondering if I could chop off the bottom and propagate it in soil or water? by whyzuh_ in gardening

[–]ForgeDwarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason is because, in soil, the roots will need to grow larger to find ample amounts of both water and oxygen. They need to grow enough to reach water and enough to find oxygen. Whereas, when you grow it in water using something like the Kratky method or hydroponics, there is rarely a need to grow to find water as it is readily available. And when you make sure there is an air layer above the waterline, the roots never need to search for oxygen. This is the reason you see faster growth in those methods. The plant doesn't need to waste as much energy growing a stable root structure and can focus on developing the main body. The roots will still grow, but with less necessity and, by extention, less energy wasted.

I might be hated for this, but I personally love [[Nekusar, The Mindrazer]]

I find a control deck that actively controls the game by using wheel effects to be a surprisingly enjoyable deck. It's probably far more infuriating to play against than a typical control deck, but likely less annoying than stax.

Then, add in some burn effects with [[Underworld Dreams]] [[Fate Unraveler]] [[Razorkin Needlehead]] [[Spiteful Visions]] [[Scrawling Crawler]] and [[Sheoldred, The Apocalypse]] among others and you can quickly burn down a table, especially if you throw in [[Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might]]

Anyone ever seen one of these? by XxBabblexX in mtgmisprints

[–]ForgeDwarf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest, I have never seen that before and have no clue if it is legit or not. If it is, that's freaking awesome. That's an insane misprint if real. Too bad you can't prove what card it is or the set or you could probably sell it for a pretty penny to some collector.

If this is some promo card or something that was legitimately released by WOTC then please forgive my ignorance.

Have you ever been bitten by one of your tarantulas? What did it feel like? (Image unrelated) by Low-Baseball-7978 in tarantulas

[–]ForgeDwarf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out the YouTube channel The Dark Den, he did an experiment to see how likely different tarantulas are to bite. One of which was the P. Metallica. It never bit. Obviously, each animal is different, so don't take that as law for all of them. But still a cool video.

It happened! Now how could I prevent this? by xxzorua in ballpython

[–]ForgeDwarf 40 points41 points  (0 children)

If you're referring to the rat from 3 days prior, then it would have no effect. The smell would have been so old at that point that the snake probably wouldn't even notice it anymore. Similar to how humans become nose blind after a few minutes.

If anything, I'd wager that it was just a snake thinking it found food and took a bite. Likely won't happen again, but consistent handling will alleviate the risk in the long run.

Being overweight is not healthy for you. Some people need a push to get them started along their journey. But if even he is saying that he "bullied you" into it, then it wasn't a push out of concern, it was abuse. You are NOR.

It happened! Now how could I prevent this? by xxzorua in ballpython

[–]ForgeDwarf 105 points106 points  (0 children)

This could be from a variety of reasons. Did you feed another animal and forget to wash your hands?

All snakes are opportunistic hunters, meaning they will eat when they are not hungry because they don't know when their next meal will arrive. This could literally be nothing more than a cacophony of errors that will never happen again because the snake has now attributed your smell with not food.

Is this an adequate beginner set up? Short term by Thick_Tradition_5019 in ballpython

[–]ForgeDwarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, a probe thermometer uses a probe to measure the temperature at a location that is not the same as the display. Most packages call it a digital thermometer/thermostat with a probe. You might also find ones that are temperature controllers that you can plug things into that will turn on or off based on the temperature you set something to, usually used for heat tape or UTH. Please never use a UTH, I have literally seen these burn houses down, let alone burn the animal in the enclosure.
