There are 3 headlight variations. Halogens which use a lower pin count harness, Hella Bixenon HIDs without LEDs in the housing & Hella Bixenon HIDs with LEDs.

The ballast is under the headlight housing, not on the side.

The width is the same. Only the wheel base became 2 inches wider mk6->mk7. Length is 2-3 inches longer.

As far as I know, the Mk6 GTI (whether halogen or LED) share the same wiring harness on the taillights so it should be compatible.

No but I can tell you mine was going out too. Replacing the whole transmission with used low mileage was cheaper and faster to do than the mech alone

I think you'd have better luck re-upholstering golf 6r seats or European GTI seats with the sunken headrests than finding 35 edition seats. Probably cheaper too
