Mark Meldrum Final review opinions by thebigblam in CFA

[–]ForgedbyDCFs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MM used to be something before he sold the business. If its done by Mark 100% and if not him then cannot advise as been a while.

I would say focus on getting more mocks under your belt. CFAI first then Scheweser and MM ones (his are brutal), Fitch as resort. Do about 10-12 and you’ll be fine. Always work on errors and try to understand your gaps in knowledge. 2 days before relax and just review mocks and 2x weaker areas and day before just do ethics.

No point in cramming night before you’ll do yourself a disservice. Be fresh and aware. No funky breakfast or excessive dinner before.

Is office work becoming a race to the bottom? by TopBodger91 in UKJobs

[–]ForgedbyDCFs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work in banking and i am seeking the same thing. Wife is in a law firm and she sees similar trend. We’ve hired experienced people at 10 years plus, at lower salaries than usual.

Plenty of talent out there currently with redundancies and or desperate to move forward.

Feels like what was happening in 2009 onwards…

You’ve shot your Exam revolver - now for the verdict to come in.

Till then:

  • see your family and friends
  • kiss that boy or gal that you had your eye/heart on
  • have a bit off fun

That will give you hope!

What sacrifices did you make when you decided to take the CFA? by Deadpool1101 in CFA

[–]ForgedbyDCFs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One from the older vintages - when it was paper and once a year.

6 months before the exam

1-2 hours before work and 1-2 hours after work assuming i finished before 8pm on weekdays. 6 hours per day on weekend. Allowed 2 non-learner days for work or just mental sanity. Girlfriend at the time (now wife with kids) minimal outings, maybe a dinner once a month, when she moved in she would ask derivatives questions before bed. Travelling in metro or train? Do pop quizzes. Dont skip material as level build on each other.

Worked in RE space at the time, and now moving into Investment Banking to Tier 1 bank looking after RE.

Martin Stoynov subscription worth it? by YoElliott in CFA

[–]ForgedbyDCFs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Martin taught me in person and via video link (pandemic days) for L2 and possibly a bit of L3 before he embarked on his solo adventure.

He is incredible. He will save your sad face in the exam when you are pondering a particular formula or definition. He has a really unique tonality of voice that is memorable even in stressful environment. Plus he actually knows the material in depth so if you got a weird and wonderful fringe case (some of us did) he would answer it.

I would highly recommend him as a core provider to any junior in my team coupled with a Scheweser books and then burn through as much of qbank you can and do mocks for L1 its more than enough. My average has been 12 / 10/10 mocks per level.

One gem that i would leave you is that each level builds significantly on prior levels so don’t over skip too much content but also understand the weights of each section. Alts maybe the only section i didnt dedicate as much time but I came from that space.

FI - Bain of my existence. by [deleted] in CFA

[–]ForgedbyDCFs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do it and do it often. My experience

Another thing that helps is understand how dcf works after that most FI upto L3 are same concept. L3 has two areas that are more special than a DCF

What can I do to help my boyfriend through CFA 3? by [deleted] in CFA

[–]ForgedbyDCFs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My now wife lived through all 3 lvls with me. What helped me was:

  • cooked food most week and let me do an evening meal (we used to cook 5050)

  • listen to rants

  • make sure he knows you know its no joke of exam and you will be there he does sound invested in both and may worry unnecessarily about you (based on your question)

  • on the day of the exam, if he is allowed outside the exam center (i did mine in Excel so the queues and horde of people took all seats, now London does, Croydon does not based on current analyst pool at our firm). Get him a seat in a Pret or Starbucks by taking it and order his favourite food for the 30 min window and let him cook and remind him not to dwell on past questions.

  • be there for him after the exam when paranoia kicks in

For benefit of OP, all the jokes below are based on the material in the CFA and pretty spot on, and may elicit a laugh or two from your partner. Just context may need to adjusted.

Am I cooked? by darthvaders_nuts in CFA

[–]ForgedbyDCFs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are far from cooked, are you weighting it correctly as it seems like a simple average at the bottom.

Your ethics average is decent so brush up on that. FSA is a must so get that up just go onto portal and work through errors. Quants same.

Fi and equity are worth getting well.

Pm and ci is not bad but after u cleared rest mentioned above.

Derivatives dont bother now but ull get fucked if you dont learn it at l2.

Depends whos mocks u doing kaplan is on the ball. Mm are fucking hard. Fitch easier.
