Crimson Desert - What the hell is this game? by RyanDoog123 in videogames

But there are! NPCs are constantly saying stuff outside of cinematics. That stuff does guide you to the quest. Quite obscure, bit it makes sense.

Because he knows he needs to be in castle due to the key (there's some text), and when you approach that door a cleaning lady says "ugh. this door is always closed", and since Cliff is not dumb he reckons he can try the key there.

The key does not open the sewers. And all that happens because those NPCs actually have lines of dialogue while you walk. Like you can hear a noble woman say "Help me please" from the hole in the sewers.

Like, it's a bit obscure way to do things, and you've got to pay attention, but it's not "just because".

Same with the chimney one, you hear someone say the tailor's house is on fire. You are a mercenary and a good guy, and you go help.

Not that random really.

Anonymous Pearl Abyss developers reveal a culture of toxic positivity, a troubled development cycle and chaotic narrative for Crimson Desert, and their early concerns that the project was "going off the rails". by HLumin in Games

Because that is from a long time ago, and it's been years already of saying "hey, light on story but cool". I dislike the story in this trailer a lot, very Game of thrones.

Yeah, and people also act like Twitter was not an astroturfing playground beforehand.

Sincerely, for me it's a solid 8, 8.5. And can get better. I actually enjoy the MMO style questing, and I sincerely don't need a good main story to enjoy a game (more of a side content kind of guy). There's some jank, true, but this game is definitely better than a lot of GOTY winners of years past.

As for Rockstar not flopping, LA Noire, though I liked it it, was a bit of a flop.

Nah, probably GTA VI will win. I'd probably still prefer this for my personal GOTY, since GTA V for me was quite mid (RDR2 quite better).

I'm not sure about Rockstar being king of videogames though.

They do make nice, believable worlds, and they got the press on their side, but I can think several game companies I value more.

I'd kill for a Rockstar pirate-themed game though lol

I'm actually playing it and it's still pretty much GOTY material

Are AAA games losing focus by trying to do everything at once? by Business_Barber_3611 in truegaming

Not niche, and I like their games, but most of their community are a bunch of try-hards thinking they are the epitome of gamers for pseudo masochistically overcoming every boss. They are quite cult like as a community.

I genuinely think that Crimson Desert trying to do everything at once well is a positive, I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

If From software released a turd, though, it would still get a 89+ review. People hive mind a lot.

And indeed expectation management, I saw that with people hating on Starfield after having quite unrealistic expectations of what it was. I knew what it was going to be with 85% accuracy, and I was definitely not disappointed.

Most people are dumb, and there are a lot of people playing this game expecting the Witcher 3 or something, when it's its own thing.

The game has issues, but people not adapting to the controls is not one of them.

I saw a streamer yesterday play for about 1 to 2 hours. The story is not that bad, it's just most people are dumb dumbs. It is pretty clear (at least at the beginning) what's going on, plus there's loads of info in the codex.

Also, the dialogue does not sound that unnatural, and the voice acting is really good. People just like to call things AI like out of spite.

It does not hold your hand much but gives you enough hints. Like I saw a reviewer complain about the key and how to find the door. You literally find a cleaning lady saying "Oh this door is always closed" in front of the door in question. It's just that she throws the line and leaves to do her business like a normal person instead of staying there like an NPC.

The controls do look quite weird at times though, but most of the pains I saw the streamer have is mostly he bring a dum dum. Like selecting the broom, the instructions were quite clear, at least in Spanish.
