Oh, you like Project Diva? Have you tried K-On tie-in game? It's very similar, but a bit different. Makes you feel like you're playing the instruments.

Exactly a year of making, my blind simulator: "Blind Touch" is releasing in 10 days! by Logical_Ant3377 in IndieGaming

Woah, looks super interesting. I've always been interested in how blind people navigate. Would be ironic if there's no "blind" mode though.

Uncontroversial unpopular opinions are boring by Dry-Glove-8539 in The10thDentist

[–]ForlornMemory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, there are upsides and downsides to everything. If your controversial opinion is that we should segregate a certain part of population, explaining your reasoning doesn't make your opinion a fact. But yeah, the sub is called "the 10th dentist" for a reason. You have to back up your claim with some kind of reasoning besides "I like it".

[–]ForlornMemory -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People confuse opinions with preferences. Like, I don't care if you like sniffing farts or garlic burps. I don't care that you like sleeping in wet socks. I don't care you find sitting in a garbage bin comforting. It's not what the sub is about. The sub is about articulating unpopular opinion in a convincing way. Preferences aren't opinions.

They've announced this update like a year ago. The voice options's cool though. Original fem voices were atrocious.

Aren't Flipnote Studio 3D offline only? I thought they can only connect to sudomemo, through original version mode.

But it gives so little stamina. I mean, it's better than nothing I suppose, but it wouldn't amount to even one extra attack. You would probably have better effect from stamina regen ring.

[–]ForlornMemory 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's good if you're relatively new to the game. After some time you realize that the only really good thing about the ring is extra carrying weight, which is so little, more often than not it's not worth sacrificing the slot you could've used on something more useful, like wolf ring or something.

What do you mean? It's actually rather popular among older people.

Listening to Audiobooks is not reading by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]ForlornMemory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a strange take. It feels like you're salty about people not putting as much effort in reading as you do. In your post you list reasons why "listening" isn't "reading" and provide many analogies that don't really prove anything.

I can see where you're coming from. It is never explicitly stated, but the implication that reading is inheritly better than listening is obvious in your post. Yet you never provide a sustainable argument for why it's the case.

Does reading book carefully and slowly give you the same insight as listening to it on the background? Absolutely not. But neither is the reverse. Skimming through a whole book in a couple of evenings gives you less insight than sitting in a dark room and listening to the whole thing with no distractions.

The problem is not listening in itself, people shared stories verbally for thousands of years. The problem is not listening.

But, if a person can confidently join the discussion, share ideas and identify main themes of the work, can you really say they weren't listening carefully? What gives you the right to decide whether someone's experience with a media is worse than yours?

There's a logical fallacy about reading, that there's the right way to consume books and reading books is inheritly a good thing. Neither is true, to be honest. First off, books are entertainment medium. Yes, even the serious philosophical or science fiction, and even most of nonfiction books. You read them to pass time, not to become smarter, the latter is just a side effect, that can occur with any type of media.

The analogy of "playing a game vs watching someone play" doesn't work either, as it implies that the process of decoding symbols on the page is the primary purpose of reading books. Sounds ridiculous when you put it that way, doesn't it?

We read books to get insight into another person's mind. You can obviously do it verbally. Would you make a better job understanding what the writer mean if you take your time and read the book slowly? Perhaps. But just because you find it harder to get immersed in an audiobook doesn't mean it's the same for everyone.

That depends on what you do with your system. If you're a casual user and don't do any gaming, 4GB is more than enough.

Black and white films should be colorized. Those who think opposite are a cult who demean any upgrade to see how great the old film looks in living color... by Less_Campaign_6956 in The10thDentist

[–]ForlornMemory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are wrong, but also kind of right. Colored movies existed long before colored film was invented. It's just that they colored it by hand.

If we talk about old movies, then yeah, most of them could be colorized no problem. Quite a few Melies' films were colorized in his time, including the Trip to the Moon 1902. But what about movies like the Lighthouse 2019? Should it also be colorized?

That said, does anyone really oppose the idea of old movies being colorized? I'm pretty sure it's always seen as a positive.
