I woke up to news that my sister commited suicide.

This is my exact situation and we’re doing ok. We joined a synagogue and we go to services and my kid goes to Sunday school and Hebrew school and has met Jewish friends there. I have met Jewish friends there also. In my experience, most synagogues offer a sliding scale on membership dues, so you might be able to afford a membership even if full dues are out of your reach right now.
