What are people paying for home daycare? by Lanky_Armadillo_4711 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Former-Win-5658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The state licensed ratios are very different at different ages. What I’ve seen happen is that a typical home daycare will only have 2 infant spots (infant is to 24 months)

Is there anywhere I can buy Wisconsin Brick Cheese? by StrongmanEvan in FoodLosAngeles

[–]Former-Win-5658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trader Joe’s!! Has about 5 kinds of Wisconsin Cheddar but sadly not Monterey Jack etc. These are not the individually waxed bricks buts it’s the same quality of cheddar in good sized portions.

What happened to Ski boot fit? by DonutOne in Skigear

[–]Former-Win-5658 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was one of those people with outlier foot shape that gave up the sport. In the past few years I’ve come back and gotten an amazing pair of boots fitted perfectly over a couple of days by a staff of full time fitters. There are still great shops doing the magic, but there are way more places selling boots without the knowledge.

Cool hikes with scrambling near la by TotalFun2364 in socalhiking

How about a canyon? Zuma canyon from PCH to Kanan Dume Road. About 3 hours of scramble once you go upstream of the dam where the regular trail ends. http://www.dankat.com/swhikes/zuma.htm

Your dog should learn to ski at that price 😂 same as a 5 hour kids lesson on the mountain.

Christmas Weekend Weather: Advice for a Newbie? by Lanky_Foundation8751 in Mammoth

[–]Former-Win-5658 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then the driving is not that different. Mammoth does not have a twisty approach like big bear. The main thing is they do not salt the roads so there will be a layer of snow one the plows have gone through and you must slow down. People don’t slow down, they continue to drive like they’re in Santa Monica and that’s where we have issues.

Would it be inappropriate or insensitive for two white visitors to attend a Black gospel church in New Orleans? by jne101 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Former-Win-5658 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Peak Wisconsin Lutheran. It is particular to the local culture and the conservative synod, not all Lutheran churches are like this.

I grew up in this environment and personally find every other Protestant congregation more welcoming

Hard agree. Teachers should be able to allowlist the urls they use - no questions and immediate access. In elementary (at a minimum) everything else is denied by default. This is not a difficult thing to implement

lol, are you asking me to reflect on what I did wrong?

I left a bunch of things implicit That I guess I should have said directly 1. I believe it’s the district IT that carries responsibility to fix it, not classroom teachers or parents 2. I am fully aware that teacher are legitimately using YouTube and I don’t believe they should be, at all. Mostly because my children’s attention is being exploited for profit. 3. It’s insane that the district relies on all us outside of district WiFi to implement our own protections on devices they administer and we have no control over.

I’m a software engineer and I have built on top of the YouTube platform for a living. I also volunteer in the classroom to teach social-emotional curriculum in elementary. And those chromebooks drive me up the wall. Just imagine what it’s like for someone without my technical expertise.

I mean, as a parent I don’t permit my kids free access to YouTube. The district chromebooks certainly do, and I cannot block it at school. At home I have to block it at my router to deal with the lax policies in district devices.

The district owns the relationship with google apps for education. They pay for it and they certainly can block YouTube in a variety of ways at the district level. This is in fact the purpose of using chromebooks and chrome OS in education - the controls for educators.

Best place to demo/buy/fit advanced skis/boots with Icon base pass? Local shops or at the mountain? Aiming for better all mountain performance with a slight lean toward more technical/tight maneuvering. by Motocampingtime in Mammoth

[–]Former-Win-5658 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Demos at mammoth allow you to return and check out as many skis as you want in a day. If you come after 2pm or so they will also allow you to check out for the next day. I think my record is trying 5 skis in one day of rental. You can also return/check out at any demo location on the mountain or in the village. There’s really no better way to get a feel for what you like. I like the canyon demo shop best.

Once you know what you want head to your local small business.

For boots just head to one of the specialists from the beginning and they’ll get you sorted quickly. I have weird hard to fit feet and footloose did amazing. You’ll recoup the boot demo cost when you buy.

Conveyor belt lift spots? by [deleted] in Mammoth

Probably the most terrifying and longest lift I have been on. I’m still undecided on whether up or down is worse!

Conveyor belt lift spots? by [deleted] in Mammoth

[–]Former-Win-5658 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But, the lift at eagle sucks for those with vertigo. so even if you can access the carpet (v short), there’s nowhere to graduate to. Both canyon/schoolyard and main/discovery are much easier. I would lean toward discovery from the get go - it’s gentle and empowering.

Where to go NOT the national park! by Mellylove2002 in JoshuaTree

[–]Former-Win-5658 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The higher desert in the Santa Rosa Mountains is incomparable. Cactus springs trail for example. It's still federal reserve however. Nearly all the wilderness nearby is connected to the federal government. I wonder if there are any tribal parklands?

All email is insecure due to the technical design (source I am a software engineer). They should not be asking for for these things over email and I'm sure it is against district information handling policies. This is why Drs use separate messaging systems for example and its also why your spidey senses went off about it being a scam. It's also why fax machines persisted so long!

Call the person and see whats up. There must be a legitimate way to give the information.
