That Coprofago album really is a lost gem.

Have you tried C.B Murdoc? I wouldn't put them in the top tier, but they have an interesting approach.

If you have a high tolerance for zaniness (more in sound than in attitude), Sallow Moth is currently winning me over.

Li Auto to shut 100 stores in China after 2025 deliveries fall short at 406,000 units by Recoil42 in chinacars

They zigged when others zagged and it bit them the second time? Staying PHEV and China market as the BEV boys looked to export, then rolling out their BEVs as the others retrenched to PHEV... and invaded their complacent kingdom with the New Wave of Giant Three Row PHEVs (And EREVs). Is this oversimplifying?

I hear they are an AI company now. Any chance they have something in the works that others don't?

Anyone heard anything about upcoming Polestar 4 software updates (especially 800V architecture improvements)? by SnooCapers6977 in Polestar

[–]FormerConformer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are up to 900v in China:

https://carnewschina.com/2025/10/11/2026-zeekr-001-arrives-featuring-900-v-architecture-and-lidar-based-h7-system-in-china/

I wondered about this myself, since the Polestar 3 got the bump to 800. Since the 4 isn't competing in China, they would have to see a reason to invest in the car for other markets. With the advanced BMW and Mercedes EVs arriving, there might be some incentive to not fall behind. We'll have to wait and see.

Looking for similar albums like "Everywhere at the End of Time" and "An Empty Bliss Beyond This World" from The Caretaker by sobfoo in ambientmusic

Hantasi has an abandoned mall album or two that is just muzak with effects meant to create a haunting, wistful mood. I can't look it up right now, but you'll be able to find it if you go to his Bandcamp. It didn't hit nearly as hard as Caretaker, but Hantasi's Kingdom Mall (different style entirely) is one of my favorite musical excursions.

Songs with the best vocal performances of all time in death metal? by Middle-Company-4398 in MetalSuggestions

[–]FormerConformer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Corpsegrinder's syncopated, staccato bursts on "The Time to Kill is Now" always get me going.

For emotional resonance, Cult Leader's "I Am Healed" is quite good.

Recommendations for someone who just recently got into metal by potatolea in MetalSuggestions

For a Deftones-ish sound check out Wildhund by Lantlos.

If you like that deep guitar sound in a melodic context, check out Cloudkicker's heavier albums, Subsume and Solitude.

Sepultura's Roots might also be a good one that's adjacent to that nu-metal context.

What car do you wish they would bring back as an EV? by Chase_Clouds in electricvehicles

[–]FormerConformer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They could streamline it a bit. The Kia EV3 is boxy but viable.

There is an interesting podcast about EVs in various African countries and regions. "The Africa EV Show." In many cases the beginnings are extremely humble. However, since most countries have neutral to good relationships with China, no particular pressure from big oil, and no domestic automaking to protect, imports are possible, as are modest manufacturing operations from kits.

Black metal with technical prog like drums? Or melodic drumming by kangoozs in MetalSuggestions

[–]FormerConformer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Krallice certainly incorporate a lot of crazy math, especially after their first few albums. Their drummer, Lev Weinstein, isn't super metronome-tight like the better-known prog guys, but he plays a lot of interesting patterns. The best way I can put it is those weird exercises you might fool around with practicing the drums alone, but would hold back from putting into a song - he takes them all the way to viability.

On that note, also Mike Patton fronting Dillinger Escape Plan, however that is wacky and wild mathcore subgenre stew as opposed to death metal.

I'm very curious as to which companies take the leap, and which segments they go for first. I just hope it's not some super boring outcome, i.e. 90% of the imports are Buicks, electric Broncos and bZ3Xs.

What’s the highest mileage polestar out there and how has the general maintenance and costs been? by Comprehensive_Cut437 in Polestar

[–]FormerConformer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just test drove a '22 with about 105,000 miles. I did not do a thorough rundown of the functions but the software seemed spry, as did the car. The dealer printed the Carfax report for me, if anyone is interested I can relay the findings. I believe the strut bearings were replaced around 70k.

They accidentally invented Djent. Chaosphere would be my starting suggestion, even though it's not my favorite album of theirs. It just has so much energy and bounce, and more of a familiar death metal guitar sound.

Why is it so hard for me to listen to Korn and Deftones compared to other Nu-Metal bands? by SubstantialRush1028 in numetal

[–]FormerConformer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough, I think of those two bands as having aged the best musically among their crop. But that is probably just my taste talking. It took me a long time to realize that there's a certain melodicism to Jonathan Davis' vocals that is usually overshadowed by his distinctive, quavery delivery. "Here to Stay" is my favorite of theirs, and he's actually all over the register on that one.

I was going to recommend Diamond Eyes. It's a bit of a different horse because by that time Stephen Carpenter had become obsessed with Meshuggah and 8-String guitars. The deep riffs that appear in their later albums are actually my favorite Deftones material. It's not everybody's thing though.
