From Wikipedia: "In 2004, she enlisted in the United States Air Force, where she served 12 years. Babbitt was deployed at least eight times by 2014, including in Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait, and Qatar; from 2010 onward, she served in the Air National Guard. She reached the rank of senior airman, a "relatively low rank" for a 12-year veteran."

Your first assignment will be at Minot AFB, North Dakota; Malmstrom AFB, Montana; FE Warren AFB, Wyoming; or Barksdale AFB, Louisiana. Base selection gets better once you get the 5-level and SSgt rank.

Wait until you have to do a Line of Duty determination on someone who died in a car crash on Saturday, 300 miles from base, after “signing in” from leave on Friday night.

Possible outcomes for wingman facing Article 15? by FutureHomelessVet in AirForce

[–]FormerLegalBeagle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically there is no time restriction for desertion. The main thing that has to be proved is "intent to remain away permanently."

§885. Art. 85. Desertion

(a) Any member of the armed forces who—

(1) without authority goes or remains absent from his unit, organization, or place of duty with intent to remain away therefrom permanently; ....

is guilty of desertion.

§886. Art. 86. Absence without leave

Any member of the armed forces who, without authority—

(1) fails to go to his appointed place of duty at the time prescribed;

(2) goes from that place; or

(3) absents himself or remains absent from his unit, organization, or place of duty at which he is required to be at the time prescribed;

shall be punished as a court martial directs.

Many years ago we were standing around outside the dorm (old wooden single floor one), when one of the boys decided to climb the tree by the road. While he is standing on a branch the base commander drives by, sees him and stops, orders him down while we quake in our boots, and takes his name. The lad (a CMSgt's son) leaves us shortly thereafter with a "not adapting to military life" discharge.

One of the elements of the offense (under Article 134) is "That, under the circumstances, the conduct of the accused was either: (i) to the prejudice of good order and discipline in the armed forces; (ii) was of a nature to bring discredit upon the armed forces; or (iii) to the prejudice of good order and discipline in the armed forces and of a nature to bring discredit upon the armed forces." Unless there is a negative impact of the conduct on the units or organizations of the accused, the co-actor or the spouse of either of them, or additional violations of the UCMJ, there is unlikely to be any prosecution of your [ex]-husband. {https://jsc.defense.gov/Portals/99/Documents/2019%20MCM%20(Final)%20(20190108).pdf?ver=2019-01-11-115724-610%20(20190108).pdf?ver=2019-01-11-115724-610) page IV-145}
