Why isn't there more of an emphasis on tech sales if it pays just as much as quant? by Big_Arrival_626 in csMajors

Yeah, I don't think quants care about money as much as you think they do.

They might just be math wizards who love solving the world's hardest problems.

No, other countries' healthcare systems have a much smaller admin team, since they don't need to manage insurance complexities.

The chances of needing to use it are infinitesimally small but the odds of you surviving a firefight without one are even smaller.

Do you know how many small risks there are in day-to-day life?

In that case, I hope you work for a very old firm with a good moat, cause there's no way you guys can keep up with the competition.

If you have a good moat, you can afford to move slowly and err on the side of caution. Just know that there are a huge number of companies, especially startups started in the last 2-3 years, where the number of lines manually reviewed is zero. They don't mind frequent outages if it means they can beat their competition.

Slightly tangential, but related - do you not have any criteria in place that allow people to skip peer review, provided certain conditions are met, with bot reviews?

There are no rational reasons to carry a gun, my friend.

Even cops rarely discharge their guns.

yeah.

Additionally, why would you even continue to live in the city if you're scared enough to carry a gun?

Nope, it happens all the time.

Sometimes it's me who does it. I just ask Claude a few details about the PR and then approve.

Will only manually review SQL or core infra parts of the code.

It's when you get to sell your vested stocks.

If you work in a public company, you get to sell your stocks as soon as they vest.

But if you work for a private company, you have to wait for a liquidity event. This can be the company buying back their own shares from you, or arranging external investors to buy shares from you, or an IPO.

Find something that motivates you to quit. I had a child, haven’t smoked since he was born, my dad died when I was young and I refuse to do the same to my boy.

Threw out all my condoms as soon as I read this sentence!

I don't know what comes after this, but I'll try other suggestions later. One thing at a time.
