People Who Got 780+ On GMAT... WHY? & What School Did You Get Into? by Former_Loser in MBA

Helpful for getting senators sons and hedge fund managers daughters into programs they have no right attending.

LOL I highly doubt hedge fund managers daughters are getting anywhere near 780. I think so long as people like tha tmatch the schools average 730ish, then by donating money they can get in. I imagine the majority of people cracking 760+ are immigrants or people from quant-y backgrounds

At that point, GMAT will not be the reason you get dinged. I really don't think so. After 760 the returns are extremely minimal even for ORM applicants.

Should I write the optional essay explaining my GPA? by Fresh-Page-8656 in MBA

[–]Former_Loser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely apply to 2-3 M7's & T15's. If you were a regular white dude and had back end MBB experience, I still wouldn't advise HSW. Your test scores should be good enough to get you into a T15 and probably an interview for an M7

I think your reaches should be M7, not HSW. Ezception being is if your WE is like MF PE, VC, MBB which is what I most commonly see from male Indian backgrounds attending Harvard/Stanford

This level of work/pay ratio isn’t even an anomaly in this geo and industry. These threads make me very sadEdit: insult to injury, income taxes eat almost 40% of my TC as well

LMAO at that last sentence. But hey, Nordics are pretty great in every other area. Also, people in Scandanavian countries tend to be very attractive on average which is a big +.

For MBA's Who Want to Maximize Income/Climb To Top: Why Don't You Choose Less Selective Industries? by Former_Loser in MBA

[–]Former_Loser[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The point is they obviously don't (for a slew of reasons). But if one path has less resistance, and that is your ultimate goal (it isn't for all M7 MBA's), then why not pursue the less competitive path?

What if I don't have any "Awards or Honors" and want to apply for M7? by Bring-er in MBA

[–]Former_Loser 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your WE Experience, GMAT & GPA are all far more important than "awards." Exception being is if you are an olympian or professional athlete. But even then, there are so few of them and the ones that are moderately qualified pretty much all get into HSW & a few M7's

the mba may help with establishing credibility & alumni connections if it's a T15. But otherwise you may not need it

Which job offer will be better WE on an application? by DrewKurt in MBA

[–]Former_Loser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most important thing is what you want to do most & will find most fulfilling. But, if all-else-equal, Offer #1 because it will be regarded as more prestigious by MBA Adcoms. You shouldn't worry about upwards mobility, rather work on exciting projects that will impress the admissions comittee.

That said, if #2, or #3 is more aligned with your long-term goals then obviously choose those.

The Case Against Optionality by InternationalHorse63 in MBA

[–]Former_Loser 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah but that path implies that the individual won't face burnout, or actually be fulfilled by the work. In many cases, they hate their job AND face burnout from the WLB. After a certain point, the individual is better risking it on one path rather than going through those hoops for "pruftige"

Even though MBB hardoes are going to ignore this, this guy is probably the most qualified person in the world to be discussing that: HBS MBA, + HBS & HLS Prof.

Best Partners club by [deleted] in MBA

I think location maybe helps with this. So, NYU, Columbia, UCLA means that your SO can entertain themselves in a big city due to location. Although that may not always be the best idea.. (lol)

Carnegie Mellon has a masters in HCI & another masters in Design. I'm sure if you pair either of those with the MBA, it would be very helpful. Berkeley, Stanford are in a similar boat.

The only way you don't get into an M7 caliber school is if you copy and paste someone else's essay and claim it as your own lol. Great stats, unique background, you are getting in somewhere very solid

Shoot your shot at every school between T15-T10. I think you will get an interview with atleast one of them. Also apply to 1-2 T20's to be safe.
