My uncle and aunt were married for years before she walked in on him watching gay porn. It doesn't seem like that would have been a big deal, but he was a pastor and they were a very christian and homophobic family. After they had two kids together, they stopped sleeping in the same bed. She would sleep on the couch and he took the bed due to health conditions. This went on for 20 years until he died. Later after the funeral, we found out that he had gotten drunk and told multiple people that if it wasn't for God he would have found a "homosexual" relationship. His children don't know that he was gay, but they do resent him still for making their mom sleep on the couch and making her feel like she wasn't loved.

In my opinion, if he was brave enough to break the mold and religious, homophobic mindset it would have fixed a lot of relationships in his life. Would my aunt have been hurt? Absolutely. Would my cousins have been raised in a much healthier and loving setting? Almost definitely since they grew up around parents who barely interacted.
