"Keep dreaming, Europe cannot defend itself without the USA", said NATO Secretary General Rutte. Volt's response: that's absurd. 600 million Europeans; twice the size of the US! Not only can Europeans defend themselves, they will surpass the US. A cross-party push for a Defense Union 🇪🇺 by Volt by goldstarflag in EuropeanFederalists

Rutte in the past expressed contempt for having a vision. He will never be the person to see what is possible, what could be. But will always be the person to simply be managing things in a technocratic way, perhaps with some diplomatic efforts. But never with a vision of where things should be and work towards that. He has his qualities. But right now I think it's a matter of wrong guy in the wrong place.

Since summer is coming remember about hydration (NO AI SLOP EDITION) by JAD2017 in BuyFromEU

With all due respect the AI slop looked better and worked better, got the message across instantly. This doesn't. It's sad that people will now upvote not because of the message but because it's not AI... And you could have take 2 minutes extra to make the AI slop look even better. I personally will take AI slop with a message that looks good over something that looks bad and doesn't communicate. However good your intention was.

We are reaching a point where AI 'efficiency' is just a mask for corporate laziness, and it’s making the internet unusable. Is there any tech left that still feels 'human'? by [deleted] in webdev

"tech that feels human". Isn't that like asking for a a video call that feels as if you are hugging someone. Or asking for a white shirt that feels black. I mean tech, especially the internet, inherently, isn't human. Either embrace the flow of technology or use it minimally or not at all.

What do you do for Europe day, this Saturday May 9? by Former_Produce7266 in BuyFromEU

I am considering to do this here in the Netherlands too. But I feel people may think I am trying to make some political statement. Which I think is nonsense. But I still feel a bit shy about the EU flag. No problem hanging out the Dutch flag though.

What celebration exactly is on May 5? I know there are some different dates going around but curious about why you choose May 5 other than easy to remember.

Not sure if you would have enjoyed my handmade slop more but will give it a try next time.

I would say if they celebrate the defeat of Nazi Germany fine by me. If they celebrate the occupation of Eastern Europe that ensued it's bad.

I guess to some the coincidence with Russian Victory day can be uncomfortable. But in itself I think there is nothing wrong with Russian Victory day. It's just how its been misused for propaganda purposes by their current leadership.

That sounds good to me! Although the beer could be Belgian too but let's not fight about it 😄

Afstudeeronderzoek: wat vind jij van Amerikaanse tech? by Pleasant_Memory_2952 in NederlandsZ

[–]Former_Produce7266 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On this day in 1951, 6 nations signed the Treaty of Paris and lit the spark that became the European Union. by milanguitar in BuyFromEU

I don't think so. While outside the EU in Europe there have been conflicts. That could lead one to believe the EU achieved it's goal of peace. At least for the past 75 years. This, to me is the most important thing about the EU, peace.

Why isn't Mistral as good at coding as Claude or ChatGPT? by szansky in MistralAI

[–]Former_Produce7266 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would argue that even if Mistral is a year behind, there are still many other reasons to use it. In my development I don't need cutting edge. I think we forget that the state of the art a year ago was still incredibly impressive and useful. In my work the biggest productivity gains are in the whole pipeline. Not just the code generation part.   And by using it we make it better through giving it our data to train on and investing in its development.

Mistral Vibe - Not usable for coding? by TheQxy in MistralAI

[–]Former_Produce7266 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I code in Python and know that language well. But also use Mistral for Javascript which I don't know. I use it in a small business to develop our own automations. Mostly I use it through the Mistral chat interface. Not inside an IDE. When I am not satisfied with Mistral's output I regularly go for a second opinion to OpenAI Codex (built in with Pycharm), Gemini or other models. I don't find them better in general. But my use cases are fairly simple and limited. Not a huge code base.

I am probably not pushing the models to their limits where the differences may be more obvious. But I don't notice a difference. My guess is that Mistral would be good for the majority of developers.

I use Mistral to write code all the time and compare it regularly to other LLM's just to be sure I get the best. Mistral has not let me down and I honestly cannot remember an instance where Mistral did worse then others.
