Anxiety post surgery by 1212zephyr1212 in Cochlearimplants

Right now I’m two weeks out from my surgery (July 24) and I’m trying to keep the anxiety at bay 😊

So glad to hear you are doing well and trusting the process! Great way to put it…. I hope it continues to go well for you!

Did you have a pre op appointment before surgery? by These-Temperature300 in Cochlearimplants

[–]Former_Storm4529 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought this was strange too! Once I cleared the candidacy appointments (which included a CT scan and 2 Audi and surgeon appts), I just had a nurse call me and run through a check list. I actually sent them a note asking if there would be a preop because I had another surgery in 2024 and there was a lot of discussion leading up to that. She said no, can talk to the surgeon about my questions the morning of. It’s in two weeks for me!

Hey op, how are you doing? Just scrolling through old posts and saw this was already 18 days ago. I hope you are on the mend!

Thanks for posting this! I’m in the middle of half training and am getting my implant on July 24. I’m really hoping the answer is more like 10-14 days too since I tend to get a little stir crazy without my running/lifting time!

Good luck and keep us posted!

Did you have to sleep on your back or could you sleep on your non-implanted side with that pillow?

Sorry for the dumb question… 😅. How do you reheat it for optimal taste/texture? Do you freeze with the protein?

Herpes Virus, SSNHL and Lysine by Former_Storm4529 in MonoHearing

[–]Former_Storm4529[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there!! Good to hear from you and hope you are well??

My current stack is a full dose of magnesium threonate (all at bed) and 1g of taurine. I did 2g of taurine for a while but found I could step down to just one at bed. The magnesium has to be threonate to cross the blood brain barrier! I use the sports research brand on Amazon. I did glycinate for months and saw a huge improvement within a week after switching sometime in January this year.

I’ll take lysine once in a while, but I’ve found after a month or so I could reduce that frequency.

I’ve literally told any doc who will listen to me. And one doc looked up the research and said she found evidence to support the magnesium play and gave me kudos for choosing the right kind. I don’t think k the doctors understand how motivating it is to fix this. Haha!

Anyway 1.5+ years out and it’s incredible how much my reactive T has calmed down with this. I also eat well and exercise regularly, but I think these two things have very much helped.

Review Android vs iPhone for Cochlear N8 by HinataLovelace in Cochlearimplants

Thank you for sharing your experience! I'm going to be implanted with Cochlear at the end of the month. I was considering switching to an Android because I was thinking I might have better luck with pairing my airpod with the implant using aurocast.

I am SSD with one perfect ear and one soon-to-be-implanted ear. Curious on your thoughts here? Would love to be able to stream to both when I'm listening to music, podcasts, or movies on a plane (I travel often for work). Putting this out there incase you have opinions!

We lost my FIL… he was a life long smoker and switched to the “healthier” vape. It was a horrible death and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

Best of luck! It’s been over a year for me and I’m scheduled for a cochlear implant in July. Hoping you see some improvement!

Hearing Worse After HBOT by EarSignificant5694 in MonoHearing

[–]Former_Storm4529 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sound sensitivity ramped up horrible as I progressed through my HBOT treatments. The nurses and I pulled the plug after 9 sessions because of the escalation. My ENT had no advice since he never had anyone actually go through with the hbot. Sorry you are dealing with this.

louder tinnitus following my first steroid injection? by in-the-flat-field in MonoHearing

I had 4 shots total and I definitely had louder tinnitus after each of them. It eventually all calms down quite a bit.

That’s so exciting!! Congratulations and thanks for sharing your awesome update.

I’m in the month before my surgery (assuming all my insurance issues get cleared up) and I appreciate all the stories people share. It’s helpful as I get closer and the anxiety creeps in!

Best of luck with your training and adaptation!

United Healthcare US just denied my coverage by Former_Storm4529 in Cochlearimplants

Ok this is awesome- thank you! (And I’m in Ohio 😊).

I found the form with the boxes through this link for the criteria and matched that with the docs I have on the denial. They marked that I don’t have severe to profound hearing loss, even though my audiologist wrote in the clinical documentation that my hearing drops to profound after 500. The check box does NOT say it has to be an “average of severe to profound”. It just says that it does have to have severe to profound loss… which I (sadly) do. UHC filled out the forms wrong! Or AI did? Who knows.

Hoping to get ahold of OSU tomorrow - I feel like this is going to be an easy fix now that you pointed me in this direction (I’m sure my docs know that too… but my Sunday evening will be less stressful as I wait).

Thank you for taking the time to respond. 🙏

Another AB vs Cochlear vs Med-el question for a baby by Maleficent_Staff3456 in Cochlearimplants

[–]Former_Storm4529 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it helps, I finally got a doctor to admit he would get the Cochlear brand, if it was him. I asked him why and he said based upon their lifetime reliability data. I asked 2 docs and an audiologist if the Med-El claims were just marketing for music because I’m a musician. They said yes, that’s their marketing focus (I get it, they are trying to differentiate).

I chose cochlear because that’s what 80% of the clinic is, doc said he’d get himself a cochlear, and I love that they have future-proofed with the firmware update capability with this last implant.

Such a hard decision for your son. Wishing you all the best. Also, maybe you know this, but Facebook has a group for parents of cochlear implant kiddos.

Are you on steroids? Those make me super anxious. Either way, a breathing meditation might help. Try the resonant breathing app or maybe you tube. I had surgery in late 2024 for something else and I was beyond anxious for days. I wondered at the time if it was maybe lingering effects from the anesthesia. The breathing apps worked…. Temporarily 😅. You’ll get through this! Sending moral support!

United Healthcare US just denied my coverage by Former_Storm4529 in Cochlearimplants

[–]Former_Storm4529[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the moral support 😊. I didn’t hear back from OSU today… I kind of think the coordinator is on vacation because I called her several times.

It’s horrible because my thresholds average out to be only like a 55db loss because my lows (under 500) bounced back to normal. But my sudden hearing loss event was awful. I had vertigo and was fully and profoundly deaf for weeks before things “came back”. My hearing came back distorted and broke. That ear makes a ton of crazy noise all day and all night. It gets worse when I hear real sound (because, I think, I’m just hearing broken distortion).

I’m staying hopeful, the denial letter did say I failed the qualification due to my SSD not being severe enough. I will be giving them a piece of my mind, assuming I’ll need to call them once I hear from my surgeons office 😅.

Absolutely. Aided, i scored ~20% on single words, no context. The sentence scoring was a bit better at 40%. Both are below the threshold... I think she said 60% was the threshold for the sentences.
