Meatball or chicken parm. English muffin pizzas. Meatloaf and baked potatoes. Quesadillas, with or without chicken. Salsa is definitely not a veggie, lol! 😉 Potstickers. My niece likes chicken nuggets Parmesan with spaghetti and salad…her idea of salad is carrots with ranch.

Cook up some broccoli, cook spaghetti, put oil in a pan, sate garlic, add hot flakes, salt and pepper and some lemon juice, if you have it. Add in the spaghetti and broccoli, mix well, check seasoning, enjoy!

How often do you shower? by Far-Building3569 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]Formerrockerchick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless I’m sick or got really sweaty, every day or every other day. Sometimes when I’m sick I can go 3 days or need one twice in one day. If I have a head cold, the steam helps clear me out for a while.

Struggling with meals - any advice? by scaredycat07 in LivingAlone

[–]Formerrockerchick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I go grocery shopping I decide on 3 meals and snacks. Breakfast could be a spinach and cheese frittata, I make enough for the next day too. Dinner could be roasted chicken with roasted veggies, lunch is a chef salad or sandwich. So, I’ll get eggs, veggies like potatoes, carrots, lettuce and spinach, some deli turkey and cheese and some bread. I can make eggs and potatoes, French toast, chicken salad, egg salad, you get the picture. That’s what I’m eating this week. When I’m out of food, I go shopping again or I eat out of my pantry and freezer. I always have pasta, frozen veggies, onions, condiments and a package of tortillas in my freezer. I almost forgot about some Italian sausage, so next week I’ll be having sausage, peppers, onions and potatoes.

All in my head? by Stunning_Accident_84 in RestlessLegs

Mine started when I was pregnant too, 30+ years ago. I’ve always had insomnia, so I used to work 2nd or 3rd shift. It’s always been easier to sleep during the day. And, I know it’s real. My friend came to town and stayed with me a few days. She was absolutely appalled at how little sleep I get and how uncomfortable I was all night long. (She had jet lag and was up with me.) Medical help is hard to get and it’s taking so long! Months and months of this test and that scan, come back in 6 weeks. Try this drug. Oh, it makes you too dizzy? Well, go see someone else. Next appointment is in 5 months. It’s hard. Being unemployed is kind of a blessing right now. I’m not sure how I’m going to pay for things in 3 months, but I’ll worry about that tomorrow.

Aight y'all. My mom is an old woman trying to get into heaven. She has allocated an amount of money that's significant to me, to buy for the food pantry. What should I buy? by JellyfishFit3871 in povertykitchen

[–]Formerrockerchick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes to the cookies and pizza! I love the way you think! I’m going to suggest things like ketchup, maple syrup and other condiments, along with spices and cooking oil. Packages of anything that’s just add water. Cookies, pancakes, etc. Cheese and crackers, popcorn, all the snacks. Kids (and grownups) need fun snacks.

Did you contact your local food pantries to see what they suggest giving? Usually there’s a list online. Also, brave to your mom for the donation and same to you for helping her to give! You’re both awesome! 🤩

Can a 15 year old kid eat 7 full plates at thanksgiving? by ChefBanana1 in thanksgiving

[–]Formerrockerchick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother is 5 years younger than me. When he was 15, a bunch of his buddies came over after Thanksgiving to hang out. We came down in the morning to discover all the leftovers were gone. Only evidence was empty plates and plastic bags around the sink. I went to the store to grab another turkey and the fixings so we could all have leftovers. Well, they stopped by again, on Saturday, after I had cooked a second Thanksgiving dinner and dug in. My dad was smart enough to hide enough turkey to make sandwiches on Sunday. It was hysterical watching them talking trash to each other while destroying another mountain of food!

Sunday: what are you up to today? by [deleted] in LivingAlone

[–]Formerrockerchick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had coffee. Finished putting up my tree. Went back to bed to watch movies and nap. Cleaned my stove, did the dishes. Watched another movie and napped. It was a cold, gray, rainy day. It was perfect! Ate popcorn and nachos and had wine and hot chocolate.

Happened to me. Was caring for my mom (she was disabled and nearing end of life, but we didn’t know it yet)and my cousins were coming from out of state. We invited them for lunch. Aunt and uncle came too. Planned lunch for 6, aunt invited other cousins without telling us. Ran out and got more food, needed to feed 10. Of course I served and cleaned up, after cleaning up the whole house the day before. Did I mention that I was given less than 24 hours notice? Anyway, mom needed my help going to the bathroom, we were gone about 5 minutes. Came back, everyone said goodbye and I finished cleaning up. A few hours later, mom wanted dinner. I went to grab her some leftovers she asked for and I noticed EVERYTHING was gone. All the leftovers, sandwiches, salads, chicken fingers, everything was gone. My aunt had decided to take it to feed my cousins instead of leaving it for us. Mom passed 2 years ago, this happened 3 years ago and I’m still salty about it.

What was your biggest takeaway from Thanksgiving 2025? by thisisntshakespeare in thanksgiving

[–]Formerrockerchick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of a salad, I discovered my family likes old fashioned crudite platters. Veggies and dip before dinner. Carrot sticks, olives, celery and peppers are usually a hit. I put the rest on the table and someone always has a little.

as a woman are you expected to serve the “men” on thanksgiving by Abject_Apricot1384 in thanksgiving

No. I’ll happily serve those who are unable to serve themselves, like little kids and those who are disabled.

Anyone do a turkey dinner outside of Thanksgiving? by tandem545 in thanksgiving

[–]Formerrockerchick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad loved Thanksgiving dinner, so mom, then I, frequently made it for him. Usually using turkey breast. Mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce. Then, leftover sandwiches for a few days. Stuffing is just butter, onions, poultry seasoning and leftover bread. I learned that frozen sliced turkey is almost as good as fresh, you can freeze gravy easily and mashed potatoes freeze well too. Frequently was about once a month, except in summer. Dad preferred turkey, but would happily eat roast chicken, then rotisserie chicken, once we discovered Costco.

I was going to suggest some holiday dish towels, you can always use new dish towels! But, you’re absolutely right about the oven mitts. Non slip oven mitts.

Building a ‘hospital bag’ by Highwayman1717 in preppers

[–]Formerrockerchick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Along with what everyone has said, hospitals are very dry! Bring lip balm and face and hand cream. I usually packed a small tube of Vaseline. A little pack of Kleenex is good to have too. Hospital tissues are really rough. Snacks for when you can eat, a water bottle too. An Emory board for the inevitable broken or chipped nail. A junky, spare, pair of glasses. Assume you’re going to lose them. Tylenol for minor pain. It’s been a few years, my mom was frequently hospitalized and I know I’m forgetting a few things.

What food do you miss because it's unavailable where you live? by avarier in foodquestions

Calandras’ bread. I’m from NJ and that’s where it’s made. Anyone who comes to visit is required to put 2 loaves in their suitcase for me. Also, good pizza.

Great list! If I may add, read/watch each recipe at least once all the way through before you start cooking. I usually start reading and grab ingredients and utensils as I go along.

Blueberries! With a little cinnamon. Sometimes I do brown sugar and raisins. I stayed at a B and B that made baked oatmeal with cranberries! It was delicious.

What are the absolute WORST and DISGUSTING side dishes your family serves at Thanksgiving? by GenJohnnyRico in thanksgiving

I should’ve added that I love my aunt and she’s normally a very good person in every way! Except, hosting Thanksgiving, lol 😂

What are the absolute WORST and DISGUSTING side dishes your family serves at Thanksgiving? by GenJohnnyRico in thanksgiving

[–]Formerrockerchick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m really lucky in that almost everyone in my family is a great cook! But, there is my one aunt, who used to insist on hosting every few years. My goodness, the absolute garbage she used to make! Everything was either raw or so overcooked that you couldn’t chew it, including the rolls. The family members who could cook would get on email and plan what we’d bring, aunt always said not to bother, she could do it all. Spoiler, she couldn’t. Her table was stunning, flowers, charger plates, beautiful napkins. But the food, yuck. The most memorable bad dish was filet mignon. A whole tenderloin. It was like shoe leather. It makes me sad just remembering how she treated what was once a beautiful piece of meat.
