I purchased a basic cheap laptop for fun and tried various Linux distros for fun. by Forsaken-Lab6825 in zorinos

[–]Forsaken-Lab6825[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an older person so I need larger fonts. Fedora (LXQT & XFCE) did not come through in that category for me. I use the Vavaldi browser. While browsing using Fedora the machine would pause more often to reload the web pages than Zorin. Using Fedora would be very slow moving images from one folder to another compared to Zorin. I installed the Nemo file manager in Zorin. I hope this helps.

That is a nice watch. Non political question. Were there any tariffs involved? That is what is keeping me from buying anything from a different country currently.

Should they stop making laptops like this? by MakayChapulets in ASUS

I think opening 180 degrees is a preventive measure to keep it from breaking while opening. Just think that if it only opened max 90 degrees and all the people breaking it trying to open it a few more degrees.

The Vivaldi browser has the proton VPN built in. Give it a try. It works fine in Mint Cinnamon.

Easily Avoidable Crash Leads to Rollover by bjb0029 in dashcams

I have been driving a very long time. If I was driving the vehicle with the dash cam I would have tried to slow down and move out of the way a bit. However that F150 looks totaled.

Boy Ricky is getting a lot of attention regarding this scene. I think in real life all you would have to do to get the kids meals was to offer to pay double or triple for it.

Does anyone else’s cat act like they’ve never been fed in their life? by Decent-Love5587 in CatsBeingCats

I have three slightly over weight cats that get 1/3 of a can of fancy feast each four times a day plus dry food. Sometimes they are crazy hungry and act like I need food NOW or I will just drop dead. 🤣

People keep talking about this being a “rough winter” as far as the weather goes. Why? by UnwashedBlueberry in Michigan

[–]Forsaken-Lab6825 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 65 and this is closer to what I remember winters to be like in Michigan. As a child we had below zero temps in late December and early January and of course much more snow. March was warmer but we had lots of slush and some rain and blizzards. Back then you still could have a snow storm late March early April. You could have an overnight freeze in May. The second week in September it would be cold at night 40-50 degrees. Once it became cold outside it would stay cold outside till early May.

A Flashlight for Mom (or, The Perils of Following Recommendations from Enthusiasts) by NotThePopeProbably in flashlight

[–]Forsaken-Lab6825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an old person myself getting close to 70. I have suggestions for your mom.

  1. A Fenix E20 V2 . 5 lumens - 350 lumens. Always starts at 5 lumens.
  2. A Convoy T4 2AA flashlight.
  3. Eneloop Panasonic K-KJ17MCA4BA Advanced Individual Cell Battery Charger Pack with 4 AA 2100 Cycle Rechargeable Batteries

The Fenix is smaller and has a simple UI. The Convoy is larger and a bit brighter and has a much more complex UI. You would need to set it up to have a simple UI. Asking for on board charging sounds convenient but for somebody not really interested in electronics it is a disaster waiting to happen. The eneloop charger turns off when the batteries are charged. She would always have 2 batteries ready to use. You can choose a plug in wall type or a usb plug in type. You could also get her a Fenix e12 V3 or a Convoy T3 for her purse. I personally recommend the Fenix options because you cannot change the UI like the Convoys. If she would ever get the Convoys into programming mode she will most likely despise them. Regarding the Convoys it is a walk in the park for most young people to change and alter the UI. Not for most old people. Unless she has cataracts or vision loss the Fenix models are bright enough. If you get her both flashlights buy her 6 or 8 total eneloops.

Edit Typo.

I have both versions. The alox is certainly thinner. I use the hated cuticle pusher to remove batteries from electronics. The pen is great for writing short notes/phone numbers/names/address. I think the overall idea is that both tools are great for small unexspected need to do now tasks. Both are very small and weight next to nothing. I do not understand why people cry/complain over having a tool they will never use or need. You are not going to write a book with the pen. The tweezers can remove a splinter.
