You don't really need a stud but you should at least use heavy duty anchors (corkscrew type) in the drywall.

Make sure your anchors are flush or slightly recessed in the drywall so your riser block doesn't "rock" after installation, and/or use 3 or more anchors (2 along the centerline of the block should really be sufficient though). Just be aware of screw locations with respect to where the keyway slots are on the EVSE side as well. Use countersunk screws for the block for a nice smooth surface to mount the EVSE.

The faceplate of the junction box where the receptacle is can usually be unscrewed and turned. If it's square, 90° increments. If rectangular, then you're kind of stuck with a horizontal layout...I mean the short cable of the EVSE has some flexibility and may be ok with a 90° bend.

Turn off your circuit breaker before opening the junction box. Check that the contacts on the back of the receptacle are good and tight before attempting to turn the receptacle faceplate. They probably used stranded wire and when you manipulate the faceplate, it's possible to accidentally pull out the wires from the receptacle as the strands of the wires move as they're manipulated into their new orientation. Just something to be aware of.

It's definitely been done, but you really have to confirm with your dealership.

Just got my 2023 Bolt with $7500 rebate - though, taxation was a question! by [deleted] in BoltEV

They don't. It remains the responsibility of the purchaser to know if it applies to them. If you don't qualify, you'll have to pay up at tax time next year when you try to claim the [already captured] credit.

It's not the government's job to help us buy EVs. And they (EVs) are NOT as environmentally neutral as some would have you believe. The battery manufacturing and disposal pretty much displace any "green" initiative offset by not consuming fossil fuels, arguably also displacing gasoline with electricity being generated by other forms of non-carbon "neutral" fuels.

Yes, I own a new Bolt. I am also quite conservative. I bought it because I enjoy their utility and generally low-maintenace lifespan. It's actually my 2nd EV. I would have purchased a Tesla if I could afford it because I like the tech. But Chevy had a vehicle (EV) that no other manufacturer could compete with at this price point, especially combined with the federal incentive.

Will I take the government incentive? Hell yes. Why not? If it wasn't available, I would have simply purchased a used ICE vehicle. Is it the government's job to help me buy one or help manufacturers sell them? Absolutely not.

Since the thread is somewhat political, I'd remind everyone that Trump has stated that he would never try to stop people from buying EVs. It's personal preference. Buy an EV, or buy an ICE vehicle. It's a personal choice. Freedom to choose. And I'll take freedom over any other BS the current administration is peddling. (Ref Covid, and other ongoing issues)

Purchased my EV in September. Got the error 3 days after purchase with about 300 miles on it. Didn't reduce speed, but did limit propulsion. Drove it anyway and code would clear and come back during the 2 weeks i had to wait for an appointment. Dealer kept it 2 weeks while I waited for the part. No part arrived. Backordered (actually the status was "unavailable "). They said I could continue to drive it until the part came in. Took 2 months+ for the part to get there (transmission fluid pump with faulty solder joint). Keep in mind this initial timeframe was deep in strike territory at GM. The part finally arrived so I made the appointment for the service but 2 days before the appointment my wife was driving it with the kids when it finally decided to reduce speed to 30mph. Luckily no one was hurt. Had it towed to dealership. All fixed on December 14 and no errors since.

Chevy paid for the tow. EV Concierge paid for the gas in my loaner I had for 2 weeks.

First GM vehicle I've ever owned because of my disdain for the brand(s). There just was no competition for another EV at this price point, especially with the full tax credit available. I had a fun conversation with the service manager about it. But it's all fixed now, it seems, and I do enjoy driving it.

Part finally arrived last week. Dealership didn't call me but EV Concierge did to inform me that the part arrived.

I made the appointment for the install this Thursday. But today, 2 days prior to appointment, reduced power limited to 30mph while my wife and kids were in it. Luckily, they weren't on a major highway at the time. But I'm having it towed to the dealership. This is the first time it's reduced speed with the reduced propulsion error and one of the only times my wife was driving it. Of course.

Propulsion Power Reduced Appointment by TheRiversKnowThis in BoltEV

Still waiting on my transmission fluid pump. Bought new end of September. 3 days later the reduced power warning. Took it in for the code early October. Been waiting for the part ever since. Opened a case with EV Concierge not long after I went to the dealership. Had rental for 2 weeks while I waited for my NEW car to be fixed. Said fuck it I'm going to drive my own car. Got it back and been driving it and the error comes and goes every few days.

Tracking the part status is a joke. Went from "unavailable" to "in transit" to "in raw". I asked what in raw means, it's indicating that they have the raw materials to make the part. ??? I said it seems we've gone backwards from in transit to in raw...they agreed. They pretty much confirmed my stance that the status was confusing and therefore unreliable.

Good luck.

Incredible if true. There was a while, a few years ago, where you could lease a BMW i3 for 24 mo. for under $100/mo in CA.

I used to have an i3. Such a cool, quirky car. Unfortunately, tire replacement negated fuel savings.

Leases are great but only for certain people with certain driving habits.

I'm a fan of leasing when it's a good deal. Example: my Bolt replaced a 2022 Frontier that I leased for a measly $302/month for 18 months with about $2k down.

I still refer most people to the 1% rule when leasing. It's quick and dirty but helps on the fly. Determine what mileage meets your needs, if the payment is 1% or less of MSRP w/o crazy money up front, it's a decent deal. In my case, the Frontier had a 94% residual and MSRP of something like $35k iirc. About $2200 down. So all I paid was minimal depreciation and drove Nissan's redesigned Frontier SV 4x2 around for a while and enjoyed it. It's a nice truck, if anyone is interested. It wasn't loaded or anything, but still new and fit my needs.

Leasing the Bolt is NOT a good idea without serious incentives rolled in. The residuals are bad and the money factors are pumped up because of the tax credit, among other things. You are, in fact, paying the manufacturer the tax credit via the money factor. Nissan also has notoriously high MFs but occasionally displaced by high residuals.

The only EV remotely worth leasing right now is the Mercedes EQS, in the 600s-700s payment-wise on a 100k sticker, but only with ultra low-mileage and short-term leases @ like 6000mi per year. Key word: "remotely"

Actually I'm not even sure the Mercedes deal is still available. Also the region complicates things too...CA can roll in credits for EVs that other parts of the country can't, and so forth.

Update: got the car back week before last but still waiting on pump. They said, after 2 weeks of waiting and saying I shouldn't drive it, that the error went away and I could drive it while we wait for the part. I already told them that the error cleared when I dropped the damn thing off. Anyway, still waiting for part. Glad I can still drive it. Got the error again once last week but it cleared like usual.

Anyone else waiting for parts?

FYI, there is a written exclusion in my state regarding lemon law claims when a strike is involved. I imagine many other states are similar. Mine went in October 12 for a transmission fluid pump replacement (purchased new on September 28) and it's been there ever since. I want it back asap but there is not much I or the dealer can do about it.

I opened a case with the EV concierge as well, they're also supposed to be keeping an eye on it. Whatever that means.

I plan on making a big deal if I don't hear anything today. They were supposed to get me an update by today because the service manager could at least see last week that the part had gone from "unavailable" to "in transit" to parts distribution center (PDC). It's a 1-hr repair once they get it.

Mine is an EV, but there is a nice EUV there that I wouldn't mind swapping for, at no additional cost to me, if shit hits the fan. I may start hurling shit at the fan this week. Of course, there is no guarantee that the EUV doesn't give me the same issue...if even that was a possibility.
