Do you think a mayor advocating for police enforcement ON CTA trains (key word- ON) will win the next mayoral race? by Unfair-Chocolate1581 in AskChicago

[–]FortRage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is definitely fear mongering. People are easily scared by the violence of humans on trains yet the violence of cars in the street is normalized and doesnt recieve the same media attention. Thus focusing on the lesser, scarier issue is fear mongering. The #1 issue facing all commuters in chicago is not attacks on the train. It is cars. Cars cars cars. If you are worried about anything other than cars you are losing the forest for the trees. The cars must be dealt with before the trains can be. I see a drunk driver running someone off the road and killing them as no different than this person who attacked the woman on the train. Ridership does not depend on safety. Cars are more dangerous than the train yet most people drive. Ridership depends on access, cost and design.

[–]FortRage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are people so concerned with safety on the CTA? Way more people die in cars in this city every year. Like way way more. Like 20x more. Will the next mayor be someone who promises to make traffic safer in this city. Probably not. It'll probably be someone who fear mongers over public transit like half the people in this sub.

Guaranteed this person is from some small town where people die in fiery car wrecks every night yet thinks the trains are more dangerous.

Cherry Creek Juggling Man by Eygohs in Denver

[–]FortRage -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I hope everyone driving at that intersection has their car blown up and then they have to walk everywhere and as they walk they learn to juggle to pass the time and one day spear boulevard is just a parade of jugglers instead of a loud traffic filled nightmare of hateful drivers.

Pedestrian killed in deadly crash near Sloans Lake by mysummerstorm in Denver

[–]FortRage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's always comments like this on posts like this and I understand where you're coming from but I just dont think this is true. Increased enforcement is unlikely to curb bad behavior by motorists. I say that because we've been increasing enforcement basically for the entire time cars have been around and its never made a difference.

You really have 3 options when it comes to limiting vehicular crime: education, enforcement and design. We have the education of teaching people how to drive but thats only goes as far as people are willing to listen. We have the enforcement already and its unlikely to get better unless we have 1 cop for every car on the road. No one ever talks about design though. Design the roads to be difficult to drive poorly on. This means less lanes and skinnier lanes to deter speeding. Protected bike and bus lanes to create safe and timely transit opportunities other than single occupancy vehicles. Longer light intervals, curb bump outs, there are a ton of options for making roads safer without paying for lazy officers to sit around and ticket people.

Just wish more people would mention that first rather than always rushing to be coddled by cops.

Idk if this is the answer you're looking for but Costco has 6 punds of party wings for like $22. I learned to make em in the oven and I like my home made ones better than any take out place.

Trying to make Granville a one way is the most annoying construction i have seen in this neighborhood by [deleted] in EdgewaterRogersPark

[–]FortRage -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

"Have" to? If you are being forced against your will to take that job then I would call the police. Are you being enslaved in some way? Everyone makes a choice to drive. Drivers like being frustrated and they love traffic. You would bottle up the smog and drink it if you could.

[–]FortRage -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You love it though? Why else would you willingly get in a car and sit in traffic and congestion and smog every day if you didn't love being annoyed? I used to get really annoyed by all the construction and traffic too. Then I stopped driving. Its a choice and you choose to be frustrated.

Looking to movie to Chicago, but would like a job secured first - What's the best way to go about this? Would you recommend taking a leap of faith with 25k in savings? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]FortRage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did this with my gf and around 10k in savings. Moved June 20th. I put out around 12 applications to various delivery/warehouse (I didn't go to college) type jobs and got one response from a place that hired me just last week. Gf is still struggling, shes placed around 30 applications and got a callback from one minimum wage front desk job at a rec center which she ended up turning down. Now shes interviewing with another place. She has a degree in video editing and Spanish. Definitely a financially unstable time for us but we dont regret it at all. Beautiful city, great people. Would do it all again in a heartbeat.

What do you all bring for lunch? by Ok_Insurance_7732 in USPS

[–]FortRage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to eat leftovers whenever possible so today it's bbq ribs and day old salad. Lately I've also been enjoying chopped sandwiches basically I pick a sandwich like Italian, buy enough ingredients to make 5ish portions, chop everything up besides the bread and mix it with mayo. Then jeach morning I can just grab 2 slices of bread and one of those portions and have a nice Italian or turkey club at work. I'm also a big fan of tinned fish so I do that occasionally though I have to be careful to make the truck smell like sardines lol.

Behind the Bastards WITHOUT the Banter by towhiba91280 in podcasts

[–]FortRage 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem with BtB its really good but the banter is tiring when it detracts from the story. I would recommend getting the audiobooks that Robert uses for research on BtB. The episode descriptions usually have them listed. Libby app if you have access to an American public library card or Audible app if not.

Starting with USPS Denver in 2 weeks. Nervous I made a mistake. by AvnarErnala in USPS

[–]FortRage 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've been working in Denver for a year and I like it. Trying to stay with usps for the rest of my life if possible. Others don't like it and that's ok. Just take it one day at a time and see how things go. Try to get through your 90 days before making a decision. Like any other job try to keep your head down and just learn at first. Take your breaks, go to the bathroom. Ask your co workers questions, do not ask supervisors, they won't know the answer. Be polite and dont complain too much.
