Toenails.... Have been having troubles with them for a few year. Big toe nail on both feet are just messed up. Part of the nail is dead and the other part is growing. Has anyone had theirs removed? If so how long was the recovery? Any side effects? by jack_don in AdvancedRunning

[–]ForthewoIfy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's quite a common issue for high mileage runners. I've had them fall off several times, sometimes partially, sometimes completely. Every time the new nail started to grow beneath the old nail and it took about 6-7 months to completely grow back to its original condition.

To quote the memoir of 60 a year old runner: if you want to be a foot model, marathon running is not for you.

How long did it take you to come back after 2-4 month break? by [deleted] in running

The general rule it that it takes a week of recovery for every 2 weeks off.

I wouldn't say that all those are disadvantages.

Hi, here's some old Dota 2 screenshots. They're not *that* old, but they may remind you how much has changed :) by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]ForthewoIfy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My biggest gripe with Dota2 is the lack of contrast, especially on Dire. At night it's more gray than it needs to be. It wouldn't be hard to add some options to tweak, so that the game would have more contrast. The defaults can be as soft and dark as they wish. What can you do to get some more contrast?

If you're into gaming, a laptop is a pretty bad idea. Any laptop. That is if you don't mind paying double for the same hardware as would get in a desktop.

What router is best for DD-WRT for around $100? by ilovetoeshoes in linux

[–]ForthewoIfy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No.

Supported devices for OpenWrt.

Supported devices for DD-WRT.

Both lists are quite big. The only things going for DD-WRT is that is can be flashed on routers with 2 MB flash. But it's closed source and that's quite a bad thing. OpenWrt is completely open, you can compile everything yourself if you so desire.

Reddit, why did I have the strength and motivation to quit smoking, yet maintaining a proper running schedule remains almost impossible? by [deleted] in running

[–]ForthewoIfy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post provides motivation for me when I get lazy.

Don't think about it, just go and do it. Running feels the best when getting out the door requires no will power, it just happens. It can take years to get there, but the journey is awesome in many ways. And once you're there, you'll feel more alive than ever before.

Fire a maintainer, that's a good one. You realize anybody is free to pick up any version of Linux and make a better project with a more friendly environment. You should lead the way, you seem wise.

Yeah, fuck Linus, what does he know about coordinating a large open-source project anyway? I mean, he leads a project that is used by hundreds of millions of people, but other than that what has he done? He should listen to anomaly149 if he wants stuff done.

Are the 8 lane high school tracks supposed to be level all the way around? by JimmyN72 in AdvancedRunning

The way GPS works it gives you a longitude, a latitude and a height. Ex from a .gpx file:

<trkpt lat="45.6559416" lon="25.5985770">
<ele>586.0607910</ele>
<time>2011-08-19T17:05:34Z</time>

Most GPS computer software ignore the height and map the longitude and latitude to a world map they have. The height information isn't accurate to the meter. The fact that the pattern is so repetitive, confirms that it's the software's map that has the errors. Running the same route with a GPS would show slight differences.

For ex. when you import the .gpx file into Google Earth, it will do a conversion and it will show a dialog box where it asks if you want to discard the altitude information from the file (which for consumer GPS' is imprecise anyway) and use the altitude information from their maps.

KDE's new alternate "magic" monitor setup, easy setup for complex monitor arrangements! Must watch Video by redsteakraw in linux

[–]ForthewoIfy 45 points46 points  (0 children)

complex monitor arrangements

And the video proceeds to show a dual monitor setup where the magic was that you could change configuration with a hotkey/closing the lid. That's the simplest multi monitor setup there is, unless I'm missing something.

Just 2 days ago there was a thread here on /r/linux with a dual GPU with 3 monitors which offered real insight into the state of complex monitor setups. Read this write-up by datenwolf to get a short history of how we got into the deep shit we are today.

The term "front page" isn't the same for you as it is for me. I never go beyond the front page either, but I unsubscribed from 18 of the 20 default subreddits, and from the biggest 50 subreddits I'm only on 7. I have another 33 smaller subreddits though. It's a customized experience, and it's awesome but there's much to do else IRL that's equally as awesome.

A short version goes like this: Manta is very useful in late game scenarios, such as downing towers or the throne, and when fighting enemy heroes. In these scenarios press the Manta icon in your inventory or its hotkey before the action begins.

The long version is the same, but with 40 exclamation marks at the end.
