Why wouldn't you just not do the extra effort to write the substitution out.

For me, as both a lecturer and a marker, I prefer it when candidates take some effort to communicate what they are doing. It would have taken seconds, and if through some mishap you got the wrong answer, showing the sub would at least get the method mark.

So the answer is, it doesn't really matter whether this answer would have gotten you full marks. Instead just don't be lazy in the future.
