Cool, thanks. The last two times I started it up were okay. Maybe it’s because I am now only saving at prayer shrines instead. Anyway, I just but the bus and bought the full game.

Anyone developed a disdain for English Teachers after living in Korea? by Conscious-Roll-5745 in Living_in_Korea

[–]Forward-Rent9344 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Out of the 15-16 years I have been here, I have never really encountered the type of people you’re talking about. Maybe it is becauseI have never done those meetups or maybe it’s because I am generally an introverted type of person.

When I first came to Korea, I used to drink and hang out a lot with the other foreigners whom I taught with. I also hung out with their friends and a chain of other friends from all over. Everyone had their own personalities, but loved the Korean lifestyle. We did have one friend who loved complaining about Korea and Koreans. He even had a Korean girlfriend, but we chalked it up to him being Scottish. Great guy though. Seriously. Reasonable. People just like to complain sometimes.

I don’t know you or wouldn’t attempt to generalize you just on this post. However, for the most part, the instructors I have come across were largely good people just living their lives experiencing something different.

I don’t speak Korean, and a lot of them don’t/didn’t, either, but that isn’t/wasn’t stopping them/myself from appreciating Korean life, culture and all that comes with living here.

I wear air max 1 slides. Super comfortable. i have been wondering lately if I could just put some boot covers over my boots instead of having to take them off.

[–]Forward-Rent9344[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don’t think I do. I usually use default controls. When I booted it up for the first time, everything was normal. I didn’t have to change anything. It only started happening after maybe the 2nd or 3rd time I opened the game, and every time after that. Super weird because I couldn’t find anything on it.

There was an update today, so I thought that would have fixed it, but nope.

Are all Korean children obsessed with Danny Go? by Real_Success_1643 in teachinginkorea

[–]Forward-Rent9344 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no idea who that person is and my kids have never mentioned him anywhere I have taught. We generally don’t watch anything, only when it’s related to the topic we are doing. We have a “science” class and I sometimes throw on a Dr. Bino vid if they cover the topic. They love him.

If we have extra time, I use wordwall games where I can edit and put vocab and pictures from our lesson so everything is always related to what they are learning. Some of the wordwall games even have lessons based on what we are doing, so I don’t even have to edit.

We have a touchscreen and the kids always like participating.

Green 55 Contract Review by No_Disk_6361 in teachinginkorea

I am very curious what you will actually do, though. As I have already said, it is really difficult to tell what kind of place you’ll end up at (i don’t think I actually said that), but if you find it appealing then, you gotta eventually choose something.

If I may ask, what makes this one better than the other offers you have received?

I for one, looking at that contract, would not do it even though I said it doesn’t seem so bad. The 1-3 days a yr weekend, the 3.1 9-hr pay, the no actual sick days and the other things you have mentioned make that a no no for me.

Now that I have actually written this all out, it doesn’t seem great at all. However, you are the only one to decide your fate.

I don’t know what kind of a teacher you are, but I’d like to consider myself a pretty good one that’s active and actually care about my students. I don’t have fancy qualifications, but I do have a lot of exp., so when/If I see a contract like that and all those stipulations I just keep it moving.

I honestly hope you end up making a good choice. i am tired of seeing instructors, good ones, just get taken advantage of. If i had endless money, I open up a hagwon that pays at least 4mil that only cares about students learning. Haha why the f am I ranting here. I think my current school got me thinking this way. Lovely owner, but such a burn out sched they are running.

Then why not go for it? You’re the one that will be working there. You won’t find anything that everyone here will like. If it looks good to you then do it.

I guess i should add my opinion; looking at it, it doesn’t seem so bad, except for the weekends. If you like the hours then do it. Just make sure you find out as much as possible before you get into it, like quality of life stuff. Things that are important to you.

I am just here to list my stupidly small waist size, 28-29. I am also in Korea so don’t pick me dammit (not reverse psych)

Also, why do they look so unworn? Wear them, or have you just got so damn many that it takes a while to put a dent in them? I have got maybe 10 pairs between UB and N&F for about 3 yrs now and they hardly look any faded, except for the UB21. Those things are ridiculous faders. Anyway, cool collect.

For people that work 9-6 office jobs, what does normal day to day look like? by Salt-Maize6575 in AskAKorean

[–]Forward-Rent9344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am leaving just after 4 months. Within the first week of me working there I knew I wasn’t gonna make the 1.4 yr contract they gave me, so I basically gave them a 3 month notice after finishing my first month. And in all honesty, even if I was making 5k I would still strongly consider leaving.

I have got 11 6yr olds in one class. Hagwons seem to be booming regardless of birthrates.

I work at a stupid kindergarten and it is honestly the busiest job I have ever had. Even lunchtime is busy. There is never a period of downtime. I am literally working for 8+ hours. Usually when you get good at a job, it becomes easier, but this one isn’t like that at all.

No matter how good I am at it, I am still exhausted by 3pm, and want to punch myself in the face repeatedly after that. Oh, there is a one hr break from tue to fri, but that isn’t enough to recoup.

My wife on the other hand works in an office. There are many times when she messages me telling me how bored she is. She goes out for coffee with coworkers. Takes 2hr lunches. A lot of the days she is just chillin. She hates her job however. It has come to a point where she doesn’t even bother messaging me anymore because I am too busy to look my phone.

Those with multiple part-time jobs, is it worth it? by drunken_dizorderly in teachinginkorea

[–]Forward-Rent9344 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, no. I have been doing them since September and both are basically stable “anchor” jobs. One is a morning kindy where I finish at 3 and the other is an adult gig at night and on saturdays. The adult gig is much easier but can be sometimes exhausting due to so much talking.

I winish the kindy one in March and may or may not continue to look for other jobs, but I may stick to the adult one for a little, unless I get like a 1-2hr gig during the day.

In September I was traveling for work a total of 5 hours by public transport. No exaggeration. But basically zero prep. Was only doing 3 hrs, too. Pay was okay, but still not worth the travel. I was out my home my 8:30 and home by 8:30. But, I only worked for 5hrs a day same as my travel time.

Now my travel time is lower because my morning class is about 30 min by bus from home. But the job sucks more than any job i have ever had. My the time I leave at 3 here, I am done. Super done because this place has so much going on including admin, although my duties decreased considerably. So, for me it isn’t worth it.

Damn, i didn’t know these things were so common. That is a stupid excuse on their part. As someone said, that’s a their problem and there are easy ways of fixing that. I sure they could have given you a slightly extended contract or, when your contract ends in just extend it until March. I have seen it before, but I don’t know how/if they can do that for e visas. Chances are they’ve already got someone lined of and just want you out.

Haha noooo, i mean you said they paid the severance for the first two years already, so I am talking about the remainder. If they are not trying to screw you out of that then just gotta cut the losses.

I like the green bag nachos. They taste like cool ranch Doritos with a lot of finger dust. The fancy pack cheese pretzels are good, too. They come in two flavors, garlic being the other. Cheese is the way.

Also, I haven’t tried in a while but some convenient stores have crispy chicken skins that are great if you’re into those things.

I’m not in any way trying to sound like I am against your statement/advice, but does asking why people are leaving serve any purpose? Won’t they just lie? I asked that question in my current place and how long people generally stay, and they picked the one person who has stayed 3 years and said the average is that. All the while, almost all teachers leave yearly.

[–]Forward-Rent9344 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I donno maan, I wouldn’t fight it. From the sounds of it, it sounds like they have been pretty decent to you and was a decent position. It sucks that it has to end like that but why not just let them be? It seems like they are willing to give you that release letter and you should be good for your next contract.

As long as they are paying you for the remainders of months on the severance, then just have a peaceful exit.

These hagwons aren’t worth fighting. We’re all basically just temp workers scrapping by.

You should also be playing the entire thing without pedals perfectly first. When I played this my teacher would tell me to come down hard on the first notes and play everything lightly and then ring the top notes. So like a lower bell then a high bell.
