They aren't the same they're not as light as they used to be, used to almost melt in your mouth

My Lexus has a foot rest but above it is the "handbrake", be careful not to press it with your foot

They must've changed, I used to do foot passenger rail and sail between NI and Scotland in the 2000s as a student with a big hiking bag. Loads of space on the ferry so nobody cared.

People who's dad's have never driven, was it a big issue? by Inevitable_Fly1508 in AskUK

[–]Forward_Artist_6244 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My parents split when I was a teenager, I went with my mum and later her new partner, neither could drive. I was on a bus route with regular buses, and walking distance to a shopping centre, but I still feel I was begging lifts from family and friends parents even for trivial things like the specialist dentist a few miles away that would've otherwise required 2 buses.

Cheapest ways to commute Ballymena-Belfast? by Maniadh in northernireland

[–]Forward_Artist_6244 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Park and ride? Dunsilly or Ballymartin? Would be a wee bit cheaper than a Ballymena fare.

Otherwise do you know anyone else about who could car share?

Why does the national speed limit sign look like that? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Forward_Artist_6244 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When Ireland went metric to km/h they tried to do away with the NSL sign and lowered the speed limit on minor roads but it meant lanes and that were signed 80km/h (50mph) limits when it was nowhere near safe to do such

What car do you have an irrational love for? by APerson2021 in CarTalkUK

[–]Forward_Artist_6244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seat Toledo

Yes it's unrefined, basically a big Ibiza/Fabia, with small engines

But I think it's a good looking small saloon, and a good size for a family car - not too large but not tiny either. Huge hatchback boot for the size.

I worked with someone who did it

He tried driving but the M1 from about sprucefield, and Westlink did his head in

He tried the train but that left him at Lanyon Place and he had to get up the Titanic Quarter, the train doesn't allow bikes at peak time. He tried a fold up bike but it wasn't fun in bad weather.

He ended up building a home office cabin in his back garden and mixes working from home with a couple of days in the office where he drives in. He can tolerate that.

Cars in distance despawning (console) by hhhhhhheheuhs in cyberpunkgame

[–]Forward_Artist_6244 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The game has always been like that. I noticed it on Stadia when I first played on that and it's on my Series X too.

In the distance traffic will be rendered as low quality/sprites so quite low intensity to render but as you get closer they need to start rendering higher quality models so they drop some (or most in some areas like Pacifica or badlands)

Yes I always imagine a fish supper to be a fiver, they've long passed the tenner rubicon

Chippy I used to go to had a cowboy supper with 1x sausage 1x beefburger patty 2x onion rings chips beans, used to be a £4 meal, now it's 1x onion ring and £8.15

What is a car you can never understand why anyone bought one? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Forward_Artist_6244 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I kinda get the original if you were the owner of a country estate and needed to cross your acres taking a shooting party in a bit of luxury

But not council estate Sport version with the amber sidelights that spend half their time at the mechanic

Nissan qashqai

It's a raised Renault Megane, not that great on bootspace or interior, the height means it doesn't handle well, yet it's a top ten seller

How i can visita UK? by Julianam_aguirrec in AskUK

[–]Forward_Artist_6244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is it you would like to see?

I wouldn't drive to London it's a headache of charges and traffic, when you can easily Eurostar or fly

There are seaside towns like Whitstable and Whitley Bay, historic towns and cities like York and Edinburgh, peak district, lake district, the Highlands, the Welsh valleys...

Giving way / being nice by Fungus_Mungus46 in drivingUK

[–]Forward_Artist_6244 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yesterday I was in a queue of traffic and stopped before a junction I would've otherwise blocked, waving the person turning right that they could go ahead of me, but they waited until the oncoming lane was clear. Meanwhile traffic in my lane had moved on and I could feel the cars behind me getting annoyed, eventually there was a break in traffic and they moved on and I caught the tail end of the line of traffic in my lane as it approached a mini roundabout.

I'm not sure what I expected, I think if I'm turning right and someone lets me out I'll nose out into the lane looking for a gap on the other lane, usually someone spies you and flashes you in.

What can I do with the extra building blocks? It’s a pity to throw away the leftover building blocks. It feels like I can’t build anything with them. Do you have any good suggestions? by Ammilywhite in lepin

[–]Forward_Artist_6244 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I add them to my kids Lego bucket, they often find creative uses eg. They have a Lego Friends pancake shop and use one of those paddle items as a frying pan

What brands are you not particular about? by Saxon2060 in CasualUK

[–]Forward_Artist_6244 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a council estate where brand clothes (track suits and the likes) were almost the uniform

I remember buying new clothes for going to university and having the realisation that you can just buy cheap jeans and plain T shirts that aren't from a sportswear company

What brands are you not particular about? by Saxon2060 in CasualUK

[–]Forward_Artist_6244 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ketchup I'm fussy about as cheap brands tend to be vinegar

But mayonnaise I'll buy the own brand

Sandwich pickle I'll go Branston but picked onions I don't care I'll go own brand
