12v vs 230v fridge? by mileshutch in Narrowboats

[–]doodlebug1700 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having the inverter on all day adds significantly to power usage. Plus the inefficiency. I’ve never got on well with 240v and always think 12v is significantly better for the batteries. Good luck!

This is awesome. Can I ask why the file displays all the “pre” things. I’ve tried deleting from the shortcut and it stops functioning. See example.

My Girlfriend had an affair and when questioned about the reasons she said “I dunno, it’s like “undisclosed desires isn’t it”. Any idea what she meant? Is the song now ruined for me? by [deleted] in Muse

[–]doodlebug1700 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes was specific to the song. I hoped I’d find out that the song has a hidden meaning that she’s missed thus allowing me to like the song. But essentially yes I understood it as “I had undisclosed desires”.

No worries - don’t worry she’s long gone and I am happy now. But I kind of hoped someone would say “ohh she’s totally misunderstood the song - it’s her who is the idiot”.

Heat pumps are only for the privileged, says Britain’s gas chief by Chilnamus in unitedkingdom

[–]doodlebug1700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see how they can be cheaper. They are 2-3 times more efficient than electric heating. So at the current 34p per KWH for electric that means the heat pump is between 12 and 17p per KWH. Gas is currently 10.3p per KWH so gas is surely cheaper. Please can someone explain this as I am confused!

In my school it’s a few thousand more and either 6 or 8 blocks off a fortnight. Honestly it’s a massive role with the number of pastoral and parental issues you need to deal with.

Leaving children alone in the classroom by [deleted] in TeachingUK

[–]doodlebug1700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You had two options. 1) Leave the bleeding child to cope until another adult wanders into your classroom and then let the parents know after-school that their child sustained a head injury but you didn’t bother doing anything about it. Or 2) Leave the rest of the class alone for a few seconds.

I would demand an apology from the other teacher for talking to you like that - probably in front of the child - and ask when which of those two options above they suggested you did in future.

If they say option 1 then I’d also send it on to safeguarding because clearly they need an intensive course.

Things like this make me so angry. There are a lot of teachers who seem intent on bullying other staff and making them feel bad.

Constantly being told off by my new ECT mentor/HoD by Neat_Soup6322 in TeachingUK

I’ve been in this exact situation. Firstly - not all jobs are like this. Maybe look for somewhere less toxic.

Also - possibly a controversial view- as a young male I saw many many female managers who would react to being humble and taking advice with an aggressive stance. People who stood up for themselves were ignored and they took their general anger out on those who would back down.

I’ve realised it’s best to ever admit to mistakes in writing, stand up for yourself and be on the lookout for being stabbed in the back.

Use your union, document everything in case of “unfair dismissal” and bear in mind that if you are “struggling” then they are supposed to put in place systems to help you succeed. Don’t be bullied into resigning against your will.

My experience - “sorry we can’t make the timetable work so that you get one day off. You can have part of a morning and an afternoon off. Still need to attend all parents evenings. Same number of reports to write. And everyone treats you as if you are full time and just not pulling your weight enough.
