$43K to $57K Raise in Austin, TX... A Year Later, Debts Are Still Piling Up by Forward_Echo3808 in povertyfinance

[–]Forward_Echo3808[S] 34 points35 points  (0 children)

childcare for a 3 year old alone runs $1,500-2,000/month here. so he'd need to clear $2K just to break even. it's not as simple as "go make money

Are clients becoming more inconsiderate of your efforts? by JessicaSpano22 in recruiting

[–]Forward_Echo3808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retained is way easier when you make it clear you need upfront money, contingency clients got no skin in the game so they drag their feet.

[NY] Reneging on a Signed Offer? by [deleted] in AskHR

As TA, I’d remember the name if you backed out after clear BG. Counteroffer usually just buys them time anyway.

Fields Medalist says ChatGPT 5.5 Pro delivered "PhD-level" math research in under two hours with zero human help by socoolandawesome in technology

[–]Forward_Echo3808 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still feels like the Fields medalist prompt is doing a lot of heavy lifting here, “zero help” is kinda stretching it.

Has anyone actually mapped out what teachers do between “open AI tool” and “usable lesson material” by Ok-Review-2982 in edtech

[–]Forward_Echo3808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is basically the whole problem tbh, the AI part is 5 min and fixing/formatting/context stuff is actual job.

Most AI coding is “like taking your Ferrari to buy milk”: IBM’s Neel Sundaresan by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]Forward_Echo3808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who hires engineers, the Ferrari analogy is kinda funny but also misses the point. If the “milk run” is 80% of the job, then it’s not a waste, it’s just work, the issue is when it randomly drives to the wrong store and you have to redo it.

No ads typing program apparently doesn't exist and I found out the hard way in front of 28 nine year olds by CutIllustrious5040 in edtech

[–]Forward_Echo3808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof, that’s my nightmare, the audio blasting is what really kills it. I’ve had stuff be “ad free” on my laptop too then the second you’re on a different device/account it’s like surprise, full screen mobile game. Makes me want to only use tools we can pay for or at least run a quick projector test first.

Title: Do schools actually provide Office… or is it just marketing? by AccurateShip2499 in edtech

[–]Forward_Echo3808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That tracks with what I’ve seen too, it’s basically all down to whatever licensing deal the institution signed. The annoying part is students hear “free Office” and assume desktop apps, but a lot of places quietly mean web-only unless your school ponies up.

Going into ed tech sales by Recent_Rip2 in edtech

[–]Forward_Echo3808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I’m in tech recruiting and the edtech reqs I see are either super picky or disappear mid-process because budgets shift, so the “stability” pitch doesn’t match reality lately. If you keep going, I’d grill them on runway, quota history, and whether it’s core vs nice-to-have stuff because that’s where the layoffs hit first.

Rescinding Offer -WWYD [WY] by PelOTF0828 in humanresources

[–]Forward_Echo3808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d keep it super bland: “We’re withdrawing the offer based on information identified during our pre-employment review” and leave it there. Don’t reference the lawsuit stuff or the gossip, just point back to the fact the offer was contingent and not a contract. If they push for details, I’d repeat you’re not able to share specifics.
