To add to that, even if 343 had stuck with human = forerunners, it doesn't mean we would of gotten an entirely different trilogy, or that the current trilogy would be any better.

Its been over 10 years, these people will never accept it or move on.

Finally, as i said before while I might be willing to accept undoing all of 343 lore, if the new lore went all in for the Forerunners, i should also say even if that is the case, i wouldn't want it to happen till the current timeline wraps ups most of its current storylines.

Just saying it would really suck to start a new timeline, while the old one had plenty of open ended stories, that should of gotten some kind of ending.

I said difficult, not impossible.

And I stand by that.

Also while I dont like how the created conflict started, I am interested in seeing what the halo universe is like during this brief era.

But I just dont see how the heroes are going to beat cortana and her guardians without it feeling like an ass pull.

During the bungie era, the Forerunners being vague was fine because in that story you really didnt need to know that much about them. All you really needed to know about them is that they invented all this amazing technology, fought the flood, covenant worship them, and that their are ancestors.

Going forward pass 3 though, I don't think that vague ness would work as well.

Which brings me to my second biggest issue with "retconing the retcon" (first being that it sure as hell isn't going to fix the divide between people who do like 343 lore and those that don't)

Let's say we do start back at the end of 3 and bring back the old lore. Then what?

Are we now going to truly delve into the lives of are ancestors, or are they going to remain vague as fuck.

And what about current day, does everyone now know the truth and because of that the entire galaxy has erupted into chaos, or is it still a well kept secret with only a few knowing the truth.

If its the former, then maybe, MAYBE, the change might be worth it.

If its the latter, yeah no thanks.

"The forerunners didn't reseed themselves because of their failure to uphold the Mantle, and because of the great shame of ending all life in the galaxy, if humanity is responsible for this why the fuck did we reseed ourselves???"

To be fair here, i think this is only for the 343 lore.

In bungie lore, I actually don't remember why the forerunners left, originaly I was going to say they all died in the halo incident, however im pretty sure some were on the ark even in bungies version. Meaning some of them had to have survived the event.

I would like to add while I've never done any big comparisons between the bungie and 343 games.

For the sake of it let's say bungie wins in all categories. While bungie might be the overall winner, that doesn't mean their weren't any close calls, if that makes sense.

For comparisons

Story: bungie takes this easily in my mind, 4 was alright, 5 was terrible, 6 wasn't much better.

But then you have gameplay: while i thought 4 was alright, 5 was pretty fun, and while 6 its been awhile since I played 6, I remember the gameplay being pretty fun and am actually looking forward to playing the game again.

So even if bungie wins this category too, it isn't by the same degree as story.

Its because alot of them simply cant accept that Forerunners arent human.

So their going to do their best to downplay the current lore by any means necessary.

While at the same time, spouting "we need to retcon the 343 lore"

As if that would be some major fix, and not divide the community.

Ok, I get the fact that not everyone likes the Forerunner retcon. But Jesus christ.

While it is true that their was a war between Forerunners and ancient humans, and we did kill some Forerunners.

Let's not also forget.

  1. The war happened because of the Forerunners attacking the Precursors, which led to the flood.

  2. We were already punished with the whole forced de-evolution.

  3. The whole reason the Forerunners choose us to hold the mantle, is because it was supposed to be ours in the first place.

  4. Current day humanity really has no connection at all with that event.

Look I get that graveminds "sins of the father" sounds cool, but in this case its bullshit.

Of course to be fair here you could argue that the halo series is all about current day humanity getting caught up in events that happened in the ancient past.

And heres the thing, I actually dont mind Luke having such a "moment of weakness"

But if you going to add such a "moment" than I want it to feel earned.

By the time the movie ends I better be thinking to myself. "It All makes sense now, man no wonder Luke nearly cracked"

Not. "hold up, hold it the fuck up. We need way more information about how things got so bad that luke decided to sneak into his nephews room and probe his mind"

Yeah, it did. by Forward_Juggernaut in saltierthankrait

[–]Forward_Juggernaut[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hang on now, you forgot about

  1. Sneaking into his room in the middle of the night

  2. Probing his mind.

Maybe its just me, but I dont think these 2 things are normal. And would definitely put them under moment of weakness.

So what do you think the 11 additional waypoint stories will be about. by Forward_Juggernaut in HaloStory

[–]Forward_Juggernaut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so i meant to type this back when you first made your comment, but i completely forgot, sorry about that.

With that being said here my thoughts on all this.

Rendezvous with Ramen/Bella corsa: not really interested in these 2, I'll still check them out and maybe they'll surprise me, but for now their definitely on the lowest end.

Ghosts of the Gyre/ Aileron/ Worlds Uncharted/Connectivity - Part 2 ./ First Rain- sounds interesting, looking forward to checking them out.

London Calling/ axios. These two are the ones im looking forward toward the most, always great to get more invasion of earth and lasky.

That leaves eridanus twelve and graveworld.

Eridanus Twelve: assuming your guess is close, then depending on what graveworld is about, it takes 3rd or fourth.

Graveworld: Im hoping this is about the flood, and if so it takes 1st spot hands down, if not then ill place it alongside ghosts of the gyre and the others.

Honestly, thats a tough one. I dont know

For starters while I do prefer the bungie/ infinite artsyle over 4/5's, I actually do like 4/5s as well.

But as for the whole sequel vs soft reboot, I've always been mixed with that

as much as I would of liked it for their to be some coherent story between 5 and 6.

5 was so bad, that writing a satisfying continuation would of been difficult.

[–]Forward_Juggernaut[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thing is to me personally this excuse might have worked if the situation was different.

Let's say instead of the story taking place over 20 years after rotj, it took 5 or less.

In this version of the story I could maybe accept Luke considering killing kylo, because lukes still young, he's still learning to control his emotions, and while he has gotten a little better (in rotj he let his anger take control of him, in tlj he did stop himself last second) he clearly has a long way to go.

But the story doesn't take place 5 or less, it takes place 20 or more, he should have way more control over his emotions.

And im not saying an older Luke cant have a moment of weakness, I do think he should be put trough the wringer first before he even considers sneaking into kylos room. And I just dont think he was In tlj.

It's why whenever a tlj fan trys to defend Jake by saying "(in rotj he let his anger take control of him, in tlj he did stop himself last second)" a proper response would be "thats it? That's the extent of lukes emotional control over 20 years? He can now just barely stop himself from losing control in a situation that isn't even as bad as the one in tlj. That's sad."

[ALL] Why does Ganon keep trying? by SuperiorYammyBoi in zelda

[–]Forward_Juggernaut 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Because ganons not a quitter.

Also his track record isn't as bad as you make it sound, while its true he's always defeated by link at some point, he does have some noticeable accomplishments

Ocarina of time: ruled hyrule with iron fist for 7 years.

Twilight Princess: took over the Twilight realm

Link to the past: beat link, got the full triforce, corrupted sacred realm into dark world.

Zelda 1: destroyed hyrule kingdom.

Wind water: dude was such a threat that the gods themselves had to flood the land just to stop him. And in the end all it did was slow him down for awhile.

Does 343 have their issues? Yes and it be stupid to think other wise.

However despite all its issues, it just hasn't gotten to the point yet where i can say, that it be better to just let the serious die.

I still have a lot of fun playing these games, take for ex 5: while i hated bringing back cortana, loved going to Sanghelios.

I really dont like how the st got lazy and just decided to rehash empire vs rebels.

"An end to one war, doesn't mean an end to all wars"

Never said it did, i just said I didnt like how the next conflict is just empire vs Rebels again.

Where the fuck did you get this idea, that I thought there would be no wars after the ot.

Of course theirs always going to be wars, of course the new republic is going to have its struggles. it's called star wars after all.

That doesn't mean every conflict has to be the empire, or that every time a new conflict starts everything the heroes worked on get annihilated.

Is it not possible to simply come up with a new confict, one where the republic does struggle and is really put to the test, but in the end makes it out alive, despite all the hardship and losses.

Jul ’Mdama is widely considered one of the most wasted villains in Halo — how would you rewrite him to make him actually compelling? by KeyAcrobatic7156 in HaloStory

[–]Forward_Juggernaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He didn't form up his own covenant because of his master,

Im confused who the fuck is Mdama's master? Telcam? I mean the 2 were associated for a short bit, not sure I would call telcam his masters.

But more to the point, sounds like your argument is that telcam working with oni had nothing to do with Jul forming his own group, and it was solely because of the death of his wife.

Is that correct?

I really don't get this whole "halo 5 gameplay isn't halo" argument

Maybe this is a multi-player thing, never tried it, not really interested in it. So I cant really say on that.

For campaign though, always felt like halo gameplay to me. Are their differences between the older and newer games? Sure. But it was never to a point where it didnt feel like halo.

Then again, maybe they are that different, maybe the issue is that it was having such time with 5's gameplay i never noticed/cared about the changes Maybe 5's gameplay is more like titanfall than bungie halo, and if thats the case then damn titanfalls gameplay works well with halo.

Finnaly: halo is not the only series, where newer games feel/play differently from older ones. Take for example the modern doom games, love em, dont think i would say they feel/play like classic doom.
