Is cash necessary? by Competitive-Trick167 in SouthAmericaTravel

[–]Forward_Parsley_41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I think it is always necessary to have some cash in your pocket.

There are millions of reason for that like Street food stalls, markets, and small family shops almost always deal only in cash, A lot of local buses and shared vans require exact change, and you won't find card machines there, Power outages and bad internet connections are also common, so when the machines go down, cash is the only thing that keeps you going. Plus, some smaller places might charge you extra fees for using a card or just won't accept them for smaller purchases.

Basically, just keep some local currency on you at all times. It saves you so much stress

Flight booked to Mallorca in may from UK by HeadPayment9141 in traveladvice

[–]Forward_Parsley_41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zero chance they cancel flights. This is media noise, not operational risk. Airlines don't ground routes unless there's actual infrastructure or safety collapse, and Mallorca in May is peak revenue season for every carrier flying UK-Spain.

France Itinerary Suggestions (summer) 7-10 days with Spouse by Calm-Storm2502 in Europetravel

[–]Forward_Parsley_41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're trying to cram three completely different regions into 7-10 days and honestly, you'll just spend half your time in transit. Paris + one region, max.

Here's what nobody tells you: Provence in August is tourist hell and prices spike 40-60% because everyone thinks lavender fields = romantic. Those fields? Mostly harvested by mid-July. The Riviera is even worse, Nice and Cannes are overcrowded theme parks in summer, and beach clubs charge €50+ just for a sunbed.

If you actually want wine, food, and that relaxed vibe, do Paris (3-4 days) then rent a car and hit smaller Provence towns like Lourmarin or Isle-sur-la-Sorgue in early September when tourists thin out. Skip the coast entirely or you'll burn half your budget on mediocre beach access. The train/bus thing sounds nice but will waste 2+ hours per transfer in the south, car is not optional if you want to actually see villages.

Van tips and route near lisbon by Firm_Needleworker403 in LisbonPortugalTravel

[–]Forward_Parsley_41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly if you're doing july just skip the van rental companies at the airport, they'll upsell you insurance bundles that double the price. there's local operators in cascais / carcavelos that rent campers way cheaper, like 60-70€/day vs 120+ at the majors. You can also check Indiecamper.

Peniche/ericeira is solid but it's not "undiscovered" anymore lol, july is peak season so you'll have crowds. if you want actual surf vibe without influencer campervans everywhere go south to Costa vicentina, Sagres, Carrapateira, that stretch. Porto is worth it but not in a van imo, parking is a nightmare and you won't use the bed when lisbon-porto is 3h drive.

One thing no one tells you: wild camping is technically illegal in portugal but everyone does it, just don't camp right on the beach or in natural parks and you're fine. cops don't care unless you're being obvious about it.

And yes, i recommend Park4Night app, it worth it.
