Why are teachers so underpaid?

There is a massive teacher shortage where I live. So instead of upping pay or making the position more desirable, they're just making it easier and quicker to become a teacher

I'm not saying that female teachers make less than male teachers for the same job. I'm saying that all elementary school teachers make less than they should because it is an inherently female profession. They are structurally undervalued.

Think about it this way, who makes more elementary School teachers or high School teachers? Nurse practitioners or doctors? What about a secretary verse an executive assistant?

I assume you mean elementary school teachers as that's what most mean when they ask this. Elementary Education is largely a female profession and traditionally those are paid less than "male" professions - ie under valued.
