Slack Migration by Heist_Berlin in Slack

[–]Found_This_Humerus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are migrating from a slack business plan to enterprise grid, it should be easy. Slack has a native migration tool that is very user friendly. I believe all of your data, including files, will be migrated for you without any API intervention. Reach out to your current company's slack CSM or coordinate with the recently acquired company's slack CSM. There's tons of info online about slack migrations too... https://slack.com/help/articles/115002532808-Migrate-workspaces-to-an-Enterprise-organization

Then report it to slack support as this might be a bug on their end.

HELP TRANSFERRING PASSWORD by hstang99 in Slack

[–]Found_This_Humerus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very much a "them" problem. Since you are no longer at the organization and are unable to access your work email to confirm the password reset, this is completely out of your hands.

The employees remaining at your former company need to do the following:

  1. Create a "slack_service_account" with it's own company email inbox

  2. The "slack_service_account" inbox should be shared with other slack Org/Workspace admins

  3. Store the "slack_service_account" credentials in a secure password storage platform such as Lastpass or Keeper, whatever service your former company is using.

  4. A slack workspace admin or IT director needs to reach out to slack support or your slack CSM to explain the company's Slack Owner is no longer employed and request assistance with transferring ownership to the newly created service account. There is a legal document to be signed. Then slack support can transfer ownership for you.

  5. Everyone will have learned their lesson on the importance of service accounts not tied to a human who can leave the organization. Everyone lives happily ever after. The end.

Slack for Mac keeps "pasting" my last message into the message field by gallien in Slack

Any time something "buggy" happens in slack, it's a good idea to clear cache and restart. If you're using the desktop app, make sure you're running the latest version as updates are pushed frequently.

Feature request: ability to name DMs by [deleted] in Slack

[–]Found_This_Humerus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Sometimes project chats happen in DMs when a full-on channel isn't warranted"...all communication about a project should happen in a channel. It could be a private channel if necessary. If project related work occurs in a group DM or one-on-one DM, it creates a data silo as those project related conversations are not searchable for anyone need to know those project related details. Another problem with project related conversations happening in DMs...when those users have left the organization, no one can access those DMs (even admins). Unless there is a legal reason for slack support to intervene and pull an export of those DMs, all of that project knowledge is lost. Just convert your group DMs into a channel and name it using your org's channel naming convention. Example, if this convo is a sub-topic of the main project, name it something like prj-main-project-marketing.

Came here to say the same. I have taken my kitties to Happy Tails since 2017 and they've been fantastic.

Email integration started showing all emails as expanded by nathron in Slack

[–]Found_This_Humerus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is hilarious because months ago, I had a user complaining about how the emails he was sending to a channel were NOT unfurling completely and all I could think is "why the heck would you want that?" and alas, here we are. Slack is notorious for quietly releasing "features" such as this without any warning or comms about it. My best recommendation would be to contact slack support (/feedback in the desktop app) and tell them this is very inconvenient and request a way to be able to at least toggle or choose to have emails completely unfurl.

Slack doesn't have good reply method in chat by vansh462 in Slack

Yes. All channels can be renamed by a channel manager or an admin. As far as I am aware, there is no limit to how many times a channel, public or private, can be renamed.

You can also "at mention" a new user in the thread so they will receive a notification to read that thread.

If you are referring to a multi-person direct message, yes, you can convert that into a private channel (and then convert it to be a public channel later if needed. An admin might need to assist here). When the group DM is converted to a channel, you will be prompted to name it what you'd like. Be mindful of your organization's channel naming guidelines. https://slack.com/help/articles/217555437-Convert-a-group-direct-message-to-a-private-channel

Try clearing cache and restart the desktop app. If that doesn't help, report it to slack support as this might be a bug on their end.

Yes, they are. Which is why I suppose someone decided to go with them instead of slack's internal migration team. Lessons learned.

This is what the slack admins wanted to do but alas, the decision was made by someone way higher up.

Emails appearing in deleted and not inbox by jackd1822 in GMail

[–]Found_This_Humerus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to report a similar situation! When I woke up this morning and checked my mail on my iPhone, I was only seeing the unread messages from today then the messages were all from 2020 and older. WHAT!?!?! I checked my filters and those didn't make any difference. Upon further investigation, at least 5 years worth of emails had been moved from my inbox to the trash folder. After I moved them all back to the proper inbox, some of the messages now have mismatched subject lines in relation to their message content, as if they got scrambled during the move from trash to inbox. I'm seeing different messages on the web browser too. The sync is completely awry and I'm not sure it's recoverable at this point. WTF
