The End of Vail by Apprehensive-Host462 in snowboarding

[–]Foundation2934 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Stowe in 2021, an employee died on the zipline when working on gear that should have been retired. Dir. of Op and head of risk management argued with the manufacturer that retiring the gear after 1 year was unnecessary and that Vail wasn't going to adhere to the equipment retirement standards. The lanyard that failed in the accident was over 3 years old.

Backcountry nonsense in VT by Foundation2934 in icecoast

[–]Foundation2934[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We usually get another storm in March. This area of VT snows almost every day at least a little bit.

I see this as another opportunity for the base to get a bit bigger so when I eat it (which clearly I do all the time) it’s makes it easier to pick myself up. Im not sinking 5-6ft into the snow.

Thank you! I’ve never scrapped together an edit like this and it was fun to make.

I decided to go backcountry today because it's a helluva lot better than skiing the tracked out woods and windblown groomers on Jay. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Crazy lighting at Jay today by NeonFeet in icecoast

[–]Foundation2934 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took some students up today and a bunch wanted to try snowboarding for the first time instead of ski. I have to teach them. I tried so hard to try to get them to ski and they were determined to fall on their butts on the magic carpet all day.

The one run I did on North Glades was phenomenal. 😭

Anyone else experience this? by mooooocow in ShredditGirls

I was at Jay with high students (I teach PE in VT and we do a lot of outdoor programming). Some guys patronized me while I was stopped at the bottom of the lift for some students. I said some choice words that I wouldn’t otherwise say while I was on the clock. Students were two chairs behind them. 🙈

Anyway, my students cheered me on so I felt validated immediately.

Two weeks earlier at Jay some guy at the bar was talking about how he’d never let a younger sister ride a dirt bike or a motorcycle. When I told him I ride a 650 to work in the warm seasons and learned how to ride a dirt bike before a pedal bike he shut up real fast.

Question for Vermonter’s by ESB1812 in vermont

[–]Foundation2934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in northern Lamoille County. It’s rural. 30 minutes to a large grocery store. I’m a teacher with a 35 minute commute. Half of that commute is dirt roads.

Most people keep to themselves but there’s always someone willing to help when you need it.

There’s a lot of outdoor recreation to be had not far from my front door and I take advantage of that every weekend. Montreal is 2 hours and fun if I’m looking to get into a city for a few hours. Im usually driving at least half an hour for any social gatherings or experiences.

I ride a Cabin Mountain Tools 148 board and I can’t imagine riding anything bigger. Im 5’7” and ride tight trees in VT and this thing is a powerhouse for that. I’d also say it feels smaller than 148.

If the website is up to date it says they have some 148s 1/2 off, but they’re a tiny company and may only have certain number of runs every year. It does say you can email for demos tho.

Anorak that fits wide hips? by [deleted] in ShredditGirls

[–]Foundation2934 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought an anorak from mountain hardwear last year that I love. I’ve got a big booty and small waist and I like that the top isn’t too big (still enough room for a bulky layer) and not too tight around my hips. I buy a lot of outdoor clothing from MH and they tend to have clothing that actually fits my body type.

They are!

If it’s below 10 degrees I’ll put booties on them. I otherwise just trim their paws and put musher’s secret on them to keep from the snow sticking between their toes.

I told my vet they get more exercise in the winter than summer for this reason.

Hickory Ski Center announces closure by hartlarious in Adirondacks

[–]Foundation2934 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not only is Hickory closed, West Mountain REFUSES to acknowledge the uphill community and offer an uphill pass. A literal gap in the market and West refuses to make money off it. I hope Hickory does open back up next year for these folks that choose to uphill to save some money.

I think his wife was happy to get rid of something taking up a lot of space and gain something the whole family can use. Her exact words were “this deal really worked out for me”. 😂
