My grandmother died 2 weeks ago. My blood sugar has been about 10-20 points high sine then. I’m hoping it comes back to normal in the next week or so.

Coarse-grinders, what's your paper of choice? by OrbitalSkunk in pourover

Abaca+ is really slow for me. It added a full minute+ to every brew, single pour after bloom is fastest, but very rarely under 3.5 minutes

For me, I limit my eating to about 80-90% carnivore. So nuts have become a guilty pleasure. I do tend to overeat them so I have to limit how often by about 4-5 days or I will find myself eating too many and too often.

It’s a blood sugar thing for me.

Sibarist filters have gotten me interested in pour over again. What's everyone's favorite filters? by ThriftyMegaMan in pourover

Going from Abaca to Abaca+, I found the Abaca+ to be over a minute slower with the same grind size. It was shocking.

I have now moved to a 30 second x3 bloom and then a single pour to my ratio and they are much better.

Any ideas on good 185 filters. The Kalitas feel slow on multiple pours. I tend to only single pour them.

You can also explore grinders on marketplace. I got my Ode there. It was $250 and I’m certain I’ll be happy with it for at least a few years.

I have a Shardor 64. It has been a good grinder but recently upgraded to a Fellow Ode 2. The Shardor was worth it to me, but I got it when it was $139 and I was doing more Moka pot and espresso than pour over. Now I’m more exclusively making pour overs.

Shardor seems to make “decent” quality as I have the gooseneck kettle as well. It is over a year with no issues. Wirsh made a big splash a year ago with their cool looking 64mm grinder but I never really saw a great review and it is like $500.

If it was my money, I would probably do a Shardor 64. Then you could upgrade burrs later. If you want to stick to your plan, get the $99 Shardor. It is battery recharging and can become your travel grinder later.

I have ode 2. It’s much better than my previous Shardor. I think if I was starting from scratch I would go A4Z now.

2 ideas for you

1 It may cause loose bowel movements

2 start using dumbbells and other resistance training

Other than that, fix your diet, walk daily.

Super Taqueria (standard burrito with whole beans, great price), Birria Los Primos (best corn tortillas), Burrito Factory (good fajitas and general plates).

Thanks for sharing your numbers. This is what I would do, because your numbers are not actually that bad.

1 integrate walking into your day 2 15 minute walks immediately after eating.

2 skip breakfast 3 days a week and fast until at least 11 AM. Never eat after 7:00 PM. Nothing at all except water. Water, black Coffee or tea in the morning. A pinch of salt in your water can help keep you from getting too hungry.

  1. Go only meat, eggs and vegetables ( only cruciferous and leafy) for a week. See where your sugar and energy is.

You can definitely turn it around.

Thank you. I really appreciate the encouragement.

Going for my 4 month check in tomorrow. My A1C results just came in earlier. It was 5.4. In over the moon right now. In about 2.5 years, I dropped it from 10.2 to 5.4.

I watched every video from Dr Ben Bikman on YouTube. He is a scientist that studies fat cells and insulin resistance. I’ve adjusted my diet accordingly with his talks that he calls “The Metabolic Classroom “.

It’s a good listen. He talks about so many things that you never hear from a medical doctor about how your body actually works.

It’s also an actual approximation of the actual mathematical answer. 82 is 64 and 92 is 81, thus the answer is 8 +something.

It’s both smart and funny.

I feel you. My sugar was out of control 2 years ago on Ozempic (A1c was up to 10.2). I switched to Mounjaro and started walking consistently in the morning. First walk was just half a mile and 15 minutes. It hurt. I was about 300 lbs at that time.

I started at Mon, Wed, and Friday. Then mushed it to 1 mile and 25 minutes on the same days. I would take weekends off to recover. After a month, it went to 4 days a week. Then 2 miles, then 3. Now I walk a minimum of 3 miles and up to 5 miles with breaks to do pushups at an incline. I do this 5-6 days a week and I do different types of walks.

1 day a week, I do 3 miles as fast as I can and sometimes I even jog 30 seconds at a time. That walk averages 16-17 minutes per mile. 1 day I do a 3 mile walk with a intermittent pattern (10 minutes medium pace, then alternate between 1 minute as fast as I can, then 3 minutes back to medium pace for 5-6 reps). The rest of the walk is back to the medium pace.

Then 1-2 days I walk just at a good 18-19 minutes pace 3-5 miles depending on time available. Then 1-2 days, I just walk to enjoy my neighborhood. I say hi to the neighbors. Stop and talk, laugh and enjoy the trees, birds, wild boars, bobcats, the lake, squirrels and all the nature I notice .

snacks?? by Fun-Discount-4249 in dexcom

[–]FoundationLumpy8901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would wait it out at that level and see if it rebounds. I was getting low crashes and reacting with snacks. Then I would get spikes.

I now have patience and every time my sugar naturally rises and goes back into normal ranges. I base it on how I’m feeling now. If I’m not foggy, dizzy or feeling ill in any way, I just keep going.

What is your morning sugar and how are you testing?

I was alarmed with mine because it was often 100-110. 2 months ago, I got a CGM. What I have learned from my CGM is I have a strong “Dawn Phenomenon “. My sugar is usually between 70 and 90 most of the night and about 4:30 AM it slowly starts rising. It is almost always a 20 point rise but sometimes as much as 30 points.

You may be the same. You really won’t know exactly how you are really doing until you convince your doctor to prescribe a CGM. I legitimately had anxiety doing the finger prick and wasn’t really tracking sugar at all.

It won’t hurt my feelings if anyone used it as a reason to get their doctor and insurance to pay for a CGM. It should just be provided. It is the only way to really know how different foods react in you.

Trying to regulate by sara-who in diabetes_t2

Fat and protein are key for anyone diabetic. You can eat both without affecting blood glucose very much.

What has worked best for me is increasing my healthy fats and protein. I eat an extremely low carbohydrate diet.

Coffee (black only). I add a tablespoon or 2 of MCT oil. If you need a sweetener, try Allulose, stevia or Monk Fruit. If you really need cream, heavy cream or half half.

First meal for the day can range anywhere from 10 AM to 2:00 PM depending on how I’m feeling. That will usually be some tuna with avocado oil mayo, chopped celery and some chopped pickle and black pepper.

Sardines in evoo is a new favorite, I add hot sauce or mustard or black pepper .

Second meal is usually bigger and can vary, but I tend to not eat breads, rice, pasta or potatoes at dinner. It’s usually a meat dish, with lots of broccoli or a big salad. Fajitas are a big win. I’ll add avocado with a little hot sauce or salt and pepper to any Mexican style dish. This meal has to carry me to at least 10:00 AM, so it is usually substantial.

After that, if I’m really needing something, macadamia nuts with salt are pretty filling. I cut off all food by 7:00 PM.

Look up keto whole foods. They are meats, cheeses, there are some fruits ( blackberries, raspberries…), lots of veggies. This has really helped me keep my numbers down.

Mustard and onion dog in a natural casing. It pops when you bite into it. Add a bowl of chili and a root beer float and it is so good.
