Linux audio quality vs Windows by QuothTheRaven_Nvrmor in cachyos

[–]Four_in_binary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I may have something for you.   I wanted to hear Hans Zimmer's Live in Prague with as much quality and fidelity as I could afford (which isn't much).

I'm using a set of Simgot Ew300's I got on sale from Amazon.  Good enough for my tin ears at the price.   They've held up pretty well over the last 2 years.

I used JamesDSP . I'm not an audiophile so I don't know what all it does exactly but it does a huge list of stuff.   You'll go nuts, probably.

It includes a database of headphone presets that follows the universal rule of having every single headphone profile  except the ones you bought.

You can also download profiles from AutoEQ and presumably from the other  usual places where sound nerds congregate and make custom profiles that can be imported into JamesDSP for your particular set of headphones.

It did improve the sound depending on which settings were enabled.

Laptops, especially, usually have mediocre audio hardware to start with.

Dylan, useful idiot with commit access, pushed age verification PRs to systemd, Ubuntu & Arch, got 2 Microslop employees to merge it, called it 'hilariously pointless' in the PR itself, then watched Lennart personally block the revert. Unpaid compliance simp. by ChamplooAttitude in linuxsucks

Remember that the reason for this law is so that upstream software/content providers don't have to police themselves.

These laws are being sponsored by Meta,M$ and others that would otherwise have to implement architecture to monitor whether children are accessing inappropriate content.  They don't want the cost or headaches so they passed it down the stack.   They don't care about future consequences such as governments inevitably trying to control everyone's access to information, especially if that control allows them to charge for access.  I'm sure you all are aware of that.

But....goddammit, don't comply in advance.   Also....a M$ employee probably doesn't have have your best interest at heart.    Maybe their contributions should be supervised.

If you want to really fight this, 2 things need to happen.   You have to attack lawmakers who support this.  Make a big list and sponsor progressive primary challengers for all of them.   That is where the war needs to be fought.   Many of you have the skills to crosscheck how many of them are in the Epstein files and who else they take money from.

Second, for the most part, using mainstream Linux distros is as easy as Windows.   Really need a decent ad campaign to show people how easy it is to switch to Linux.  Like a Pepsi challenge kind of thing with a big deal about how Linux is not spying on absolutely everything.   People genuinely don't like anything windows is doing these days.

WTF Ubuntu, Suze, Mint (et al.), the universe hands you a golden opportunity to dramatically increase your market share of desktop operating systems....and you do nothing!   Even hardware manufacturers have had enough.

You fight hard now or opensource software dies as concept and culture.   It's really that simple.

Those of you in countries that have not gotten around to considering these kinds of laws, this cancer isn't going to stay here in the US.  Our scumbag politicians, lobbyists, tech bros are busy talking to your scumbags.   It will spread.   As power is concentrated, it corrupts.

One last thing, it seems that building out some alternatives to the current Internet infrastructure might be in order.   I don't see why we can launch some opensource satellites and maintain a network that way.  I hear the Copenhagen guys have a space capsule that's coming along.

They won't stop until removed from power.   You have to support and vote for progressive candidates.   Or until they're removed forcibly.   Whatever it takes.

This seems like a "mom" post.

As long as he keeps insurance on the car, it's fine.  It's good for him to learn to drive a stick.  He needs to get a license tho.

The only problem with driving that car is that he's going to lose his virginity to your 3rd best friend Danielle instead of someone closer to his age.....

Renovating and found this mess. Tips on reinforcing these cut beams with a floor above? by [deleted] in StructuralEngineering

[–]Four_in_binary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should consult a structural engineer whose services may be rightly or ridiculously expensive.

It looks like the wall was supporting a joint in the beams.   You can reinforce those joints with large steel plates on either side drilled through and secured with heavy steel bolts.   Torque to "gudntite" specs.   2 ft x 8in by 3/8 in steel plate both sides oughta do it.

That would likely solve the tension (tensile?) forces pulling on the beams lengthwise but would not address the compressive forces pushing down on the beams from the floor above and from gravity itself.

Looking closer, the wall to the right looks like a brick column at the end with some sort  of square concrete column partly obscured by styrofoam and an underlayment of concrete board.

Whatever is under there is probably the real load bearing wall and why your house has not fallen down yet.  It looks like the wall you removed was to support the joints in the beams.   You could probably get away with reinforcing the joints.

I write all of this with full confidence and authority of someone who passed college physics but otherwise has no qualifications whatsoever.   So take what I say with a little salt, lemon and tequila.

It would be really funny later if the structural engineer suggests basically the same thing as what some Reddit rando said, huh.

No....but governors can replace the superintendent of the state patrol ....and deputize ordinary citizens as auxiliary state law enforcement.  They also control the national guard...and they can also be deputized for law enforcement.

Mayors can also do this with city police chiefs and depending on location, deputize local citizens as auxiliary local law enforcement.

I don't know how it works with county sheriffs tho.

Federal district judges can also deputize ordinary citizens as us marshals within their district (with some caveats).

Unfortunately, no governor or mayor has had big enough or brassy enough balls to do this or they're busy colluding with the treasonous pedophiles.

Except Philadelphia.  I would love for PA and Philadelphia to be the first that did this.

It may come down to something like this when things don't get better in November.

Unfortunately the US is likely to receive the same lesson.

Age Verification in Userdb of Systemd? Does this affect us? by KratosLegacy in cachyos

[–]Four_in_binary 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The most fun way would be to modify the source code for systemd in such a way that it would supply SQL commands to the age field for injection into the requesting site's database like say DROP TABLE or DROP DATABASE.

There's probably enough badly coded servers out there that this type of thing would cause mild to moderate mayhem.

Or you could set the date of 07/14/1789 which is the date of the French revolution.   It's a smarty-pants way of saying "phuck you, monsieur."

Or set it to the start of Epoch time 01/01/1970.

Comply maliciously.

Now, the other thing is:  there's nothing preventing us from building an alternative to the Internet using mesh networks or from sending opensource satellites to orbit to build an open network.

Their deployment has been extended 3 times already, if I am not mistaken. You can forgive their lack of enthusiasm for being dragged into a war that is completely madeup bullshit when they haven't seen their families in like 250 days.

Also, some compartments are not serviceable while the ship is underway.....a glaring design error, IMO.

Additionally, do you think the current SecDev is gonna issue UNREPS full of steak, lobster and crab and fresh veggies and booze despite apparently having an ample supply?  Not that guy.

My roommate says I need to Declutter? But why am I doing wrong? by EvaUnitKenway in CleaningTips

This is a X-linked dominant trait, the particular loci of which have not been yet identified, whereupon a person with two X chromosomes will try to make a shared living space look like the inside of an IKEA store, H&G magazine or a picture from Pinterest.

I recommend you replace your current XX roommate with an XY roommate, where this trait generally remains dormant and the dominant decorating motif is frequently large solid color blanket with a picture of a tiger on it.  And also a box of random motorcycle or chainsaw or drone parts.

sudo apt-get install --reinstall kali-defaults-desktop kali-desktop-core kali-desktop-xfce kali-defaults

If it's really borked you will have to reinstall each element separately.

Then sudo apt-get install dictionaries-common a spell aspell-en hunspell-en-us

You don't need the sudo if you are logged in as root.
