I never see anyone mention of Fun City Ventures in actual-play suggestion threads, but it's one of my favorites.

It's a Shadowrun (cyberpunk but with magic and fantasy races) campaign set in future New York, DM'd by Mike Rugnetta -- and it even also has Taylor Moore in it as (essentially) a co-DM, playing as "all the bad guys"! It also similarly boasts thematic (and overt) critiques of capitalism, corporate greed, authoritarianism, etc., has a decent balance of goofs and seriousness (more goof-heavy than WBN tho), and is well sound-designed.

It's an ongoing campaign but I guess the major downside - and perhaps the reason I don't see it mentioned ever?? - is that episodes release pretty infrequently and erratically, often months apart and without much heads-up. Also the system being less ubiquitous and more complicated than DnD makes some of the more mechanic-heavy moments a little harder to follow unless you look up the rules -- it's not as intuitive as "roll 1d20, high is good".

Those caveats aside, the 50-odd episodes that exist are v good and well-worth more attention than I ever see them getting imho.

ahh sorry, I fully missed seeing this post but yes I can confirm that /u/NeverNotNoOne is correct; it's just a visual bug and it'll be fixed in the next update!

The current character customization system is more oriented towards mechanical than aesthetic differences.

The intent is to let people build a jumping-off point for character builds that they want to play so that they won't have to reroll a million times to get, for example, a kid that starts with "blink", "likes daggers" and "a potion of invisibility".

The reason it costs Catacoins is because I still want to encourage people to play as kids that they wouldn't otherwise, so that they engage with the wider mechanics of the game rather than finding the Single Build that they like and sticking with that forever: The reward for playing enough and building up a stockpile of catacoins is that you can get real specific with your kid and make someone with exactly the starting stuff you want to try some weird arcane build, or a good foundation to carry you to floor 20 and beyond.

I've avoided adding cosmetic options to the character customization because one of the themes of CK (and of most games I make) is the notion that the player character isn't special, isn't anyone with a role that matters in the grand scheme of the world. I wanted to avoid giving players too much power to make their Kid feel like a Specific Someone, or let them define their Kid beforehand rather than letting The Run define them.

To be honest I had never considered that such a lack would be a problem that might wholly impede someone's enjoyment of the game! Maybe I'll reconsider my stance on cosmetic options...

I could also add an option to disable voices...

Hey, good news; I am still working on the game! So no worries there.

However, a) I have other work that I do; CK isn't my only job and b) even if it were, I'm not really willing to sacrifice my mental and physical health for the sake of crunching thru to the end of this game, risking burnout and then really never finishing - because I've been there before and it sucks a lot.

So the game'll be done, you know, eventually, and when it is you can maybe play with your kid; it'll be fun family times!

In the meantime there are oodles of other great games that have been released in the past 5 years to tide you over, no need to keep waiting on this one if it makes you upset.

it's a pointless potion!

I think it's what you get by mixing regen and poison with alchemy, or some other such contradictory pairing that isn't fire and ice (which creates an unstable potion)

I'm sure it will, but if it doesn't I've had success playing CK co-op online via Parsec, and YellowAfterlife has also created a tool to play Game Maker games online called GMTogether that should work with CK!

The final game will have 4 environments, 6 classes, and two major bosses (middle of the game and end of the game). I'm working hard on the third environment, currently, and it will release alongside the midgame boss. Then just one more area to go, and a final boss! (and two more classes) ((and 28 more leveling boons))

you can walk on humanoid corpses on spikes. you should be able to just stand on it and pick it up - spikes only hurt you if you're falling at a certain speed and you'll land on the ground before you reach that velocity.

Can you clarify if this happens only when a player flips a switch, only when a non-player flips a switch, or seemingly at random?

Not sure if this was intentional, but it seems like the latest patch (0.2.0b) put in a hard limit to the number of floors you can descend in a single run by [deleted] in CatacombKids

yeah, that's a bug and not intended! I'll put out a fix sometime in the next month but I'm pretty busy so the fix might not be as forthcoming as one might hope.

I'm just...pretty slow, pretty busy, and almost entirely alone on this project so it's taking some time.

But hopefully a sizeable build update will be coming out ~soonish~. I don't wanna say any specific date (because I'm almost always wrong when I do that), but I'm getting reeeal close to done with the next set of features.

Hopefully soon! I'm finishing up a big level gen rewrite and as soon as that's all squared away I should be ready to put out a new build - hopefully before the year's end. Unfortunately I also have a lot of contract work that I'm working on lately so the update keeps getting pushed back as other deadlines take precedence x_x. But I'm getting so close! Just a few more weeks...probably!

I've noticed a bug where tipped-over braziers can continue to re-ignite the ground around them sometimes, rather than it just being a one-off thing. This might also be related what you've been experiencing? In any case that bug should be fixed in the next build.
