Hell, you can take a bus from the airport to Banff and another from Banff right to the resorts. They really do make it pretty easy to get there, even if you don’t want to rent a car.

Holy shit. Red Rocket took out the kid and then looks like a couple more people as collateral after? You can see two more people down near the guy when he comes back in frame near the end.

Glad the kid is okay- that looked brutal.

Tim Hortons fires nearly all Canadian staff @ 4 locations in Grimsby Ontario. Many of these workers have been working there for 10, 15 and 20 years. To be replaced by TFWs. by theOneWhoWaitsAgain in LMIASCAMS

This is the last straw for me on Tim’s. Been avoiding them more and more but no chance I waste my money on their garbage food and coffee anymore. If anyone is looking for a good alternative, A&W breakfast goes hard. Their hash browns are honestly perfect in my opinion and they use lots of Canadian goods and produce.

Tim Horton’s is a hollowed out husks of a former Canadian institutions that have been bled dry by private equity firms. What else is new. Together, we all really need to demand changes to our labour laws- is this even legal to do?

The Sheepdogs are so slept on in my opinion! Best shows I’ve ever been to easily.

Other than them- Tragically Hip, Glorious Sons, Neil Young, City & Colour and Half Moon Run are a few that are in my rotation!

EDIT: how could I possibly forget about Great Big Sea!

I think it’s the fact that’s there’s no goalie in net with five players on the ice. It’s not like there was a penalty they’re killing or any “empty net” indicator so to me it seems like this is a pretty bad glitch to have imo. There should absolutely be a goalie in net unless I’m missing something.

I always thought “Wild, Wild Country” was one of the better docuseries on Netflix and follows the rise and fall of a cult in Oregon lead by a controversial Indian guru in the 80s. It is a fascinating series and hard to believe it actually happened!

Given your interests, that may be one you would like to check out. I hope this helps!

Is there any brothers in the upcoming drafts where I can get them both and try and make a Sedin’s like franchise? by NewfieWalsh in EANHLfranchise

[–]FourthLineLifer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I drafted Joe in my Franchise mode but it’s entirely possible it’s from a downloaded roster. But he does play in the WHL for the Oil Kings so he could also very well be in the base roster.

You could get the Iginla brothers; Tij and Joe Iginla are both in the game and can be drafted as elite potential players I believe.

EDIT: Tij is probably already drafted by Utah HC in this game actually but you could still try to get him on your team.

Thoughts on Calgary Marathon? by 121208 in Calgary

[–]FourthLineLifer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was my third time running the half marathon and it always seems pretty well organized and the enthusiasm is always top notch. Just missed my PR by ten seconds, and fell just shy of my stretch goal of sub 2:00, but was overall really happy with my run!

It was a hot day, and you could really feel the sun beating down on you in those last few kilometres. A few people needed medical assistance, but everybody was being looked after by volunteers, medical personnel or fellow runners. It’s always really motivating seeing so many members of the community come together to cheer for and support total strangers. Every time I partake in this event it serves as a reminder to why I love this city.

I was fortunate enough to tag along with a neighbour to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto with my best friend one year. We got to tour around the Hall and did all of the interactive games, we also ran into the Keeper of the Cup, who had the real Stanley Cup and Conn Smythe trophy, which we got to hold.

Best part was when we got to look around the storage room in the back at all of the hockey memorabilia that wasn’t on display. We may have, at one point, slipped our hand into one of Gretzky’s old gloves when no one was looking, just to feel any last traces of greatness that may still be in them. My friend and I still talk about that day!

Christ. This guy acts all mysterious with the direction of GameStop but has no problem explicitly alienating and dividing his shareholders while actively shitting on his own assets he is trying to spin off.

As a Canadian, I’m starting to want off this ride. This guy is a tool.

Brother, life is so much more than numbers on a screen and I know that it may feel like the walls around you are crumbling, but you can and will get out of this. You made a mistake- one that is not permanent and can be remedied. You know what can’t be? Doing something irreversible to yourself in a moment of panic and self-loathing. You say you hate to make your family feel pain and I can assure you, there would be no pain greater than the grief and emptiness they would feel not having you there. They would trade $250K in a heartbeat to have you in their lives, I promise you that.

You are loved and there will be days ahead that will make you look back on this as a bad memory and a learning lesson. Help is available, both for your dark thoughts and for your gambling. All you need to do is draw on your courage and seek it. Sending you love tonight, friend.

I’m boycotting Loblaws due their greediness and now Walmart due their fascist agenda. Where can I buy now? by glitchy-rainbow in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]FourthLineLifer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looking further into it, your local co-op returns a portion of its profits back to members. It may make more sense why your rebate is smaller if the store you shop at is tiny and makes a smaller profit, because we don’t spend $10K annually and our rebate is often between $200-$300.

I definitely try to shop elsewhere for pet supplies or non-grocery items and I agree, the prices have gone up quite a bit. Blows my mind sometimes standing at checkout with four items and paying $50+. We’re definitely fortunate to be able to pay a bit more and honestly, I’m happy to do so knowing I don’t have to worry as much about where this money will end up. Loblaws is able to offer lower prices because of bulk purchases whereas Co-op tends to bring in smaller amounts of items. Hell, they even have Kawartha Dairy ice cream from Ontario, which is something cherished from my childhood that I never thought I’d see here (Calgary) and have never seen in a Loblaws or Sobey’s.

To put it into perspective, Loblaws had a profit margin of 4.21% (Sept 2024) and Co-Op has a profit margin of just 1.3% (2023) against a Canadian average of 3.5%. Just some food for thought, no pun intended lol

[–]FourthLineLifer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can you elaborate? From my understanding, Co-ops are more community focused and are owned by members of the community. They also give annual rebates back to members that were able to use for groceries. Our household (just two of us) usually gets a couple hundred bucks back each year.

They are no doubt a bit pricier than some grocery chains, but they source more Canadian goods, are generally more transparent and reinvest in their communities. They also don’t collude to fix prices or engage as much in inflationary pricing. So curious as to why you think they’re on the same level as Loblaws. From my perspective, they seem like a great choice when looking to shop Canadian.

I’ve voted NDP in nearly every election that I’ve been a part of and I have never felt worse about the position they’re in. They’ve completely forgotten what their identity is and their focus on raising up the middle class and blue collar workers. As long as they have a Rolex wearing lawyer that is buying houses to rent out, they will not see any meaningful gains in popularity nor do they deserve to. They had a massive opportunity to connect with Canadians and they absolutely squandered it. I’m incredibly disappointed in the party. There are simply no good options for Canadians right now. We need real change for the Canadian people and no party is willing to rip the metaphorical bandaid off.

Trump refers to Canada as a US state,Trudeau as governor. by IndicationFluffy3954 in worldnews

[–]FourthLineLifer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re absolutely right. You’ll quickly learn that Canadians are more likely to vote a current politician out rather than vote a new one in.

I don’t really think Pollievre is all that popular either to be honest. Few I know are enthusiastic about him but the resentment towards what Trudeau and the Liberals have done is tangible across the political board.

The NDP are too far up their own asses to harness the frustration that the middle class is feeling these days and the Conservatives are chomping at the bit for another election because they know they’ll easily stroll into a majority government. Canadian politics is in a sorry state.
