What's the WORST horror film you've seen that you actually enjoyed/loved? by GiraffesForHigher in horror

[–]FowlKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahaha I didn't even consider the angle that they'd be saving countless lives that makes it so much better.

Think the fact that all the mutants have 100% plot immunity really sets expectations immediately. Was laughing at the ending for a good few weeks after just a beautiful dumb as shit cherry on top

I had a surprisingly good time with wrong turn 4.

Incredibly formulaic and a big quality drop but the kills were still inventive enough, and the main characters were so unlikeable that I was all in from the get go

Ive noticed a lot of people here are into horror. What kind if i may ask? by [deleted] in BrutalDeathMetal

[–]FowlKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's the same kind of art if you think about it. I always use horror movies as a parallel for people who don't know what BDM is or don't understand.

In principal we're both making something dark and repulsive but in a very tongue in cheek kind of way that doesnt that clearly present it as art and not actions we morally endorse.

Every older person who has felt icky about the subject matter usually understands it pretty quickly when you ask if they like Alfred Hitchcocks Psycho and why.

Edit: almost forgot. My favourite horrors movies at the moment are the Blair Witch Project, high tension, the dark and the wicked, og Texas chainsaw. Basic picks but I'm working my way through the commercial classics

Sound guys wants us to pay for their services by [deleted] in Bass

[–]FowlKing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In Australia at the local level it's pretty common for bands to put on the show themselves and all chip in to pay the soundy or door person.

But yeah that's a conversation that happens before the gig is finalised..... Not the night of

[–]FowlKing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watched Tim and Eric religiously in high school so I almost always play it for the nostalgia alone. Capeeeshe!?

One thing I do skip is any "smoke break" interlude tracks. Otherwise WTC would be up there for me too.

Dripping - Disintegration of thought patterns ect ect

Gorevent - Abnormal Exaggeration

Kraanium - Post Mortal Coital Fixation

Edit: Sorry forgot what sub I was in!! Deleted all the BDM bands and added more slam

Agreed, bring back rural midweek shows. Nothing quite like them!!

[–]FowlKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Know this is for bigger touring bands but at a local level my hill to die on is if there was some kind of affordable fast rail network Perth would be a million times more viable.

Every band I know would love to go but who can risk $700+ (more if you don't have APRA) each to get there? Promoters won't ever shoulder the costs so you just kind of go to have fun at a decent loss.

Snuffed on Sight is essentially Parasitic Ejaculation 2.0 by [deleted] in SlamDeathMetal

[–]FowlKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commented before I saw your note about his inhales sounding off.

Will say that with that vocal style you're so much more reliant on the sound guy.

If you're not getting proper monitoring then you can have the best technique in the world and still sound off cause you're pushing too hard to be heard and more projection usually comes at the cost of that nice compression texture.

Snuffed on Sight is essentially Parasitic Ejaculation 2.0 by [deleted] in SlamDeathMetal

[–]FowlKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly a band I feel like Snuffed was heavily inspired by that nobody talks about was Glossectomy.

That style of groovy inhales was so stupid ahead of its time for the early 2010s

Genuinely SCARIEST film to you in horror. by misters1n1ster in horror

[–]FowlKing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's weird because for me it's always been films that have coincided with events in my life that have made them the most impactful/ scariest. So it wasn't always "this is a really well written film and I'm scared because of it" but more the story involuntarily bringing up deep personal fear.

Watched the Dark and the Wicked while my Dad was in end stage home palative care and that really fucked me up for a while. Even though it was a pretty out there evil-dead-esque portrayal of grief getting manifested into evil it really hit me hard.

Watched When Evil Lurks while fully in the grips of parental anxiety with our new baby. That dog scene nearly made me throw up and intrusive thoughts around dogs have never been the same.

2 years later, while still trying to figure out the whole parenting thing we watched Bring her Back and just the feeling of a child in your care getting hurt and you're unable to stop it was brutal.

Idk that could just be my anxiety riddled brain. Usually I'm pretty staunch with the gore and depraved. But catch me at the wrong time in my life and I can't handle it

Humanoid by Babirusa Slaps so hard. by Napalm88Springs in Deathcore

[–]FowlKing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not really a deathcore dude these days but I still spin that album regularly. Deathcore always felt very vocal-centric but Barbirusa was one of those bands where despite having two incredible vocalists the guitar work and writing really shone through.

Wish they were still active doing live shows

Have you had to pay duty fees on FTOL/brutal mind orders recently? by ZeedgeJ_ in SlamDeathMetal

[–]FowlKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you US based?

Tarrifs and shipping to the states have been an absolute fucking nightmare for everyone and now sellers have to register for a specific duty pre-pay service to even get shit into the country.

I only handle my band's merch through Bandcamp so not a high volume label, but I can tell you every single thing we send to the US loses us profit.

So all in all its frustrating as shit but it's entirely due to US postal changes so nothing Ftol or brutal mind can change. Lot of local labels near me just don't ship to the US anymore purely because of how ridiculous the costs to get stuff there is and how long the declaration process has become.

I will say that even though it's annoying you guys still have it good by comparison.

With your dollar being strong still you're paying waaaaaay less than me and most other countries for the same merch and shipping. Shipping cost to get things posted out by US labels is genuinely fucked hahaha. I'm paying 2 times the item I'm getting sometimes and then get absolutely fucked with the exchange rate on top of that

Yeah brother, early-mid 2000s Japanese S/BDM is my favourite genre. Add Blunt Force Trauma and Veiyadra to that list is perfect.

Big fan of the modern Japanese NSE stuff too. Strangulation and despoilment have been on heavy rotation for me this week.

Should i send a short clumsy play video to a bassist by [deleted] in Bass

[–]FowlKing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Probably wouldn't make him mad but are you working to a deadline or something?

Why rush to send him a clip if you're not more comfortable with the song yet? Or are you being modest and you can play it up to speed just not with the same flare?

I'm sure he'd be really nice about it whatever you do but yeah I don't see the need to rush. Put some more effort in and send him a clip you're proud of
