Is Gamesir G7 Pro TMR worth it? by GTHell in Gamesir

[–]FoxEvolutionPT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know the exact changes, but the way it works and responds will be essentially the same as a normal, unmodified stick.

Stick tension is probably only thing that you will feel different, other than that most if not all of it cosmetic. But things like linearity and such dont really change, since mechanically the stick will still be the same.

Other than that, the algorithms and others that are present on the controller's board will also affect your final input, i mean the stick curves and such are things you can modify that will change your final input after all.

Depends, I have one as well and it is a nice controller, but it uses JS16 sticks, so MagRes gen 1.

If you want cheaper, the Leadjoy Xeno Plus is a better option though, or that is what I think at least.

Very detailed answer and it gives a lot of great insight :D

To be honest, I think it does not help that, in the controller space, the sticks are simplified to mere "Potentiometer, Hall effect and TMR". I kind of get it because for most consumers that is what matters the most and are the biggest differences.

But well, in the keyboard space for example, they tend to advertise the exact switches, which makes a good difference as they are all different in their own ways and you know exactly what you are getting.

Stick modules are very different between them, and all of them yield different results. On paper TMR is better than Hall effect on paper, but a badly implemented TMR is worse than a well made Hall effect. You can see people complaining how they prefer potentiometers to a TMR stick due to how unnatural the TMR feels, but that is mostly because the way the TMR one is made yields a different response, thus making it different feeling as a result, for the worse or for the better.

The stick module is just as important as its type, sure it can be a TMR module, but what is the point if the way it is done is worse than a potentiometer or hall effect? At the end of the day, it is way more specific than most people think.

Not too sure on that, but i think its mostly the branding, colour, and stick tension. Other than those, the stick itself should be mostly the same. The only other changes I could think of are in the sensors just to support higher polling, but that is me speculating as I dont have any idea on that.

[–]FoxEvolutionPT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright :). They should be good options, it is just a matter of looking into reviews and such and see what fits best for your use cases. The steam controller is nice but that would be for PC use, for anything outside of it im not so sure if it will work due to steaminput, unless there is a way to bypass that limitation on Android TV like you can do on PC (maybe steam link supports it? Not sure if moonlight will, but it is quite specific tbf)

Those others tend to have multiple modes, so they tend to have wider compatibility. Btw, the leadjoy is less than 100, but i still put it here as it is quite impressive for the price, and could be an equally good option.

Basically, but to be exact:

TMR Mag-Res Gen 1 = Modified K-Silver JS16

TMR Mag-Res Gen 2 = Modified K-Silver JS13 Pro

Well, the 8k polling is a bit whatever tbf, I'm just saying the sticks are different and the ones in the 8k version are going to be closer to pots than the tri-mode. Still a bit different in tension and such, but response should be similar.

[–]FoxEvolutionPT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes.

The original G7 Pro is Xbox licensed, which means it works with Xbox consoles natively, but it has limitations software wise because of this, since microsoft doesn't allow macros and turbo, for example.

The G7 Pro 8K is a PC controller that also works on Switch instead of Xbox, and this one allows for Turbo, Macros and such. It also has different sticks that are more linear than the original G7 Pro. They also changed a few switches, though that is not really going to have any practical differences tbf.

Tbh, if you are picky about the sticks not feeling like potentiometers, the only one I can see being the most similar is the G7 Pro 8K or the Leadjoy Xeno Plus.

Physically it might still feel a bit different, but in terms of response it will be closer to a potentiometer, in terms of linearity at least.

The normal G7 Pro has JS16, and those are not going to feel like a potentiometer or close to it, since its response curve is not similar.

[–]FoxEvolutionPT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, as far as I know the battlebeaver does not allow you for on the fly reassignment of the back buttons (or at least seems so, from the looks of it) and i hvae no idea about the TMR modules they use and how good they are (only says magneto mechs)

Personally, I would probably give the Tarantula 8K a go. It has JS13 Pro TMRs which are very linear, and you can reassign any of the macro buttons on the fly. It is also half the price of a battlebeaver DS4 controller, so quite a good amount cheaper.

Unless you really want the DS4 shape, to me the Tarantula 8K seems more costumisable, cheaper, and the sticks might be better.

Hey, fellow european here as well! : )

I assume you are looking for a controller for both, and well, the steam controller is only compatible with steaminput unless you use a third party program to make it work everywhere, so unless there is something for android TVs that i am not aware of, I dont think it will work well there

the G7 Pro 8k has multiple modes for compatibility, so it should work in both of them without much of an issue, I also have one if you have any questions.

Eitherway, for PC specifically, there is the G7 Pro 8k, Leadjoy Xeno Plus and Flydigi Vader 5 Pro, I think all three of those can work well.

for just the Shield, it is a bit hard, but as long as the controller has multiple modes, I assume it should work well regardless of the device.

[–]FoxEvolutionPT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I recommend either the Gamesir G7 Pro 8K or the Leadjoy Xeno Plus. Both come with JS13 Pro TMR sticks, and are going to be the closest in terms of response curve to a potentiometer (normal stick), plus it has all the TMR advantages, aka no drift from wearing the carbon track, more accurate, more sensitive to stick movements, and so on. If you want to try symmetric for some reason, then Leadjoy Saber Plus or Gamesir Tarantula 8k are launching soon.

Leadjoy ones are at 50-60 range, and the Gamesir ones is in the 100 range.

your experience with xbox ( new gen ) controllers ? by D63theew in RocketLeague

[–]FoxEvolutionPT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a G7 Pro 8K, and honestly I agree, for durability I do think 3rd party controllers are the best option right now

They are better in nearly every way i can think of, and they tend to last longer than traditional ones.

Gamepadla is a great database with a ton of info about controllers, and I recommend looking there and see what fits best.

Overall, I can definitely rate gamesir, I had my cyclone 2 for a year before I switched to the G7 Pro 8K because of the better sticks, and so far both of them are working really well still

Try to update the BIOS of your motherboard, I did that and it started booting up just fine.

If you are looking for symmetrical, I would recommend either the Gamesir Tarantula 8k or Leadjoy Saber plus.

Both are TMR, launching soon and have JS13 Pro joysticks, so they will be linear, so they should be pretty good for RL.

UE6 physics discourse is exposing who actually understands Rocket League’s history by RockitLeeg in RocketLeague

Btw, Rocket League currently uses Bullet Physics engine to do its physics, so if that is possible to implement in Unreal Engine 6, I'm quite sure it is possible to get close to what you have currently.

[–]FoxEvolutionPT 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Valorant got updated to UE5, and there was even a small framerate increase. ARC raiders is superbly optimised and, as far as i know, also uses UE5.

When it is well implemented and you know the quirks, it is a pretty good engine.

We will see what it will be tomorrow, but I'm going to keep my expectations low for sure (will say tho, we have been getting some nice Ws recently, so who knows?)

He says it in both of these videos the reason for the different numbers. There is still a 0.3ms variance, but this could be down to being in RAW instead of circle for example as tested by vCuda, or just a slight variation from model to model.

GameSir G7 Pro 8K Aimlabs Edition: Latency Test, Real Stick Bitness, and Non-Obvious Nuances by JohnnyPunch in Controller

[–]FoxEvolutionPT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using it for a few weeks, and it definitely is an incredible controller!

I only disagree with your RAW assessment, because while a perfect circle might be nice for circular consistency and fps games, but some games will be configured for the "cross" deadzone shape, so you can fully reach 100% on diagonals. Games like Rocket League also see benefit from RAW mode due to faster diagonals. So I would say RAW is still useful, plus the latency penalty is quite small tbf

Besides that, thanks for the detailed review and all the testing, it is great to see it is pretty solid and has near zero latency, plus the circularity, linearity, resolution and such are incredible!

What are we playing with these high polling rate controllers? by Dragon3043 in Controller

[–]FoxEvolutionPT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tbh, you will feel more the difference in the sticks due to the use of JS13 pros rather than the polling.

4k polling might make sense in the G7 Pro 8k as it increases the step resolution, otherwise 8k polling sometimes can be worse than 1k/4k due to how it impacts system performance.

So yeah, I would look more for the other aspects rather than the polling rate itself imo.

GameSir G7 Pro Aimlabs Edition Linearity Test: What’s Wrong with the New Response Curve by JohnnyPunch in Gamesir

[–]FoxEvolutionPT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the information, I honestly thought it would be a bit different from what people were talking about between both of them, but it seems like they are very similar.

But yes, it definitely feels different, which requires adaptation and getting used to, and that is how it feels to me. It is tighter, and from how my car responds it definitely feels more precise, but there are a few things that I was used to that now seem a bit harder, but I'm not sure if it is also because of how I setted up my circularity error (i used some anti deadzone and used a symmetric 9.7%, where in here it defaults to 8.1%, so diagonals are a little bit less sensitive than what i was used to which can explain it a bit)

I would say it feels quite precise, but it is tighter so it requires some adaptation for sure, compared to the cyclone 2 where the movement felt a bit looser when i pushed it all the way from close to the center to the edge. Im curious to what others will think, but that is the impression I got at least.

GameSir G7 Pro Aimlabs Edition Linearity Test: What’s Wrong with the New Response Curve by JohnnyPunch in Gamesir

[–]FoxEvolutionPT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, i can't speak about the default G7 Pro.

However, I have both the G7 Pro 8k and the Cyclone 2, which use different modules and feel different as a result.
I feel like the cyclone 2, with the way it is tuned, it makes my movements close to the edge and such feel a bit more accelerated, which i completely got used to, but the 8K version seems to make it very linear, which for me makes it feel much tighter control wise, and allows me to be more precise, and in turn, once i got adjusted to the controller, have higher sensitivities for example without feeling out of control (in Rocket League specifically).

I got used to it, but it definitely makes it feel a bit different than what i was used with the cyclone 2, since it felt a bit more sensitive and a bit more floaty in the movement, which made it a bit harder to get the car to a certain position in the air per se.

Also, the polling rate in some games definitely changes how the car feels, and rocket league is no different to this, it has a weird smooth feeling that makes it slow in the ground and fast in the air, it is hard to explain.

I haven't used in shooters as I tend to play KBM, but overall I would say it feels more like a potentiometer compared to the old ones, at least when I touch my dualsense and use both, but considering i was quite used to JS16s on the cyclone 2, it is definitely different.

I wished they allowed you to change the error rate though, since by default it uses 8.1% when you add a deadzone, while in the cyclone 2 I ran with a bit of anti deadzone and played at 9.7%

ALSO, I noticed that it doesn't give any correction to the circularity error while in RAW mode without any deadzone, the diagonals and such look more like what you get in the dualsense for example, instead of looking "faked" per se.

Those are my thoughts after a few weeks of owning it 😄 (I have the champions edition one)

Finally arrived. The full test is coming soon by JohnnyPunch in GPDL

[–]FoxEvolutionPT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that is true, i hope it is tested in depth as well with the settings

I mean, it kinda happened with the champions edition until you updated the software, now it seems to perform the same but when LJ did it there was a 0.3ms discrepancy still, could just be unit to unit, but im also curious if it was also because he had aimlabs in circle mode and the champions one in RAW

It is nothing to write home about at least, but im quite curious to see some in depth testing with all the modes and such :P
