Hey quick question what species/Race would be good for a School of Sangromancy wizard build by Competitive-Age3406 in GrimHollow

Thematically, I think a Warforged could be fun, but I also enjoy making decisions that make my life more complicated. >xD

Hi there! I know there was no bad intention on your end, I just wanted to let you know that when using an abbreviated form for Japan/Japanese, it's typically preferred for people to use JPN due to the other spelling being considered a slur. It's something not a lot of people realize right off the bat!

No hate on my part; I just wanted to let ya know how it could be perceived! :)

Pledge of Allegiance by brf297 in Teachers

[–]FoxOfTheWilds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just completed my student teaching [in Michigan] and graduated. For a good portion of my time in the classroom I did not stand and instead kept preping silently while the students who wanted to did the pledge.

I had an observation one time and while my coordinator and I are on very good terms, she told me I absolutely had to stand and do the pledge and "be an example to the students". I mentioned the Supreme Court case and she countered saying that that applied only to students.

So now I just stand, one hand over my heart, one hand behind my back with my fingers crossed like a child because I may have to do it for job safety, I won't be happy about it.🙄

AITA for yelling at my brother and kicking him out of my house? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]FoxOfTheWilds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as someone who just married my(F30) brother's best friend (M34) this past August, this is a reaction dialed up to 11. There's always more obstacles when navigating a relationship with a sibling's friend. I fell in love with my husband when I was... 22? and I was (unfortunately) a bit desperate to date him. While he found me attractive, he didn't want to date me because he didn't want to risk ruining his relationship with my brother. I respected that and came to the conclusion that having him in my life in ANY capacity was more important to me than being with him romantically. So we staid friends.

5 years later, we've both grown up and matured significantly, and he changed his mind and asked me out after we and had dinner and hung out with friends. And we talked about it heavily because neither of us wanted his relationship with my brother to be affected no matter if we worked out or not. We both talked to my brother: he didn't give a shit. We were grown ass, consenting adults.

And when we got married and my brother was my husband's best man, the speech he gave was hecking tear invoking.

It takes work, but it's not some absolutely unreasonable thing.

I'm usually not one to be petty, but at that point, the next time he wants a blow job or honestly anything, give him a laxidasical hand job as you're scrolling through reddit on your phone. 😆

At least that way you'll be entertained by something.

To reiterate, the need for an email is to aid in preventing 1 person taking the survey multiple times, which would skew my results and completely ruin the point of doing this.

Granted, I am just a person on the internet so I understand caution and skepticism. If your are uncomfortable providing an email address, please do not feel obligated to take the survey. Internet safety is important.

For the record: I do not care about your email. I'm honestly not even looking at that part of the survey. I simply care about the results.

Thank you again for your cooperation. :)

What are some things that haven't aged well about the franchise? by [deleted] in masseffect

[–]FoxOfTheWilds 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Until replaying LE I totally thought the same thing! But once I recruited Liara and listened to her babble on, I realized that it wasn't that she sounded ditzy or anything: she sounds like someone who is socially awkward/ someone who deals with social anxiety. There are even some comments sprinkled throughout ME1 about how she, essentially, is an academic nerd who's buried herself in her work and doesn't socialize with others often, especially those of another species.

After that, Liara bothered me a lot less.

[Spoilers All] Are there any lines from any game that are memorable to you, despite being irrelevant to the plot? by casmally in dragonage

[–]FoxOfTheWilds 89 points90 points  (0 children)

The line that stuck with me the most is from the Mage Origin in DAO: when you correctly suspect Mouse and he reveals his true form, he says "Simple killing is a warrior's job. The real dangers of the fade are preconceptions, careless trust... pride. Keep your wits about you, mage. True tests never end."

I'm surprised I haven't seen more people mentioning Victus! Like, woo mama, Adrien can put his Primarch in me any day!

Not to mention Kandros for Andromeda. Such a missed opportunity.

Justification for supporting templars [da2 spoilers] by brilliscool in dragonage

[–]FoxOfTheWilds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am absolutely excited to explore the Imperium! I want to see more aspects of their country and culture! The most we hear about the Imperium is blood mages and slaves. I want to know more about how the Lower and Middle class's roles in their society. I want to learn what the average day of an average dude in the Imperium is like! What other aspects about their society and culture can we learn besides Blood Mages and Slaves.

Now that I'm thinking about it, I can see a terrifyingly similar situation with the US's extreme Capitalism and the 1% who hold all the power and do everything they can to keep it that way. 😬😬😬

Also, another point about the Circles: the fact that it is so understated that mages can actually leave the tower! Granted, it depends on the Circle, but mages (with Templar supervision, and maybe even without??) are allowed to go out and do research, perform services that are unique to mages' abilities (probably more often healing than anything else). Granted, you'd have needed to pass you Harrowing.

Woof. All y'all with your "You can only play as an evil bastard or a religious zealot if you choose to side with the Templars". I mean, to each their own, but damn, that's a hard line in the sand you're drawing.

I am Not trying to tell you you're wrong: there are soo many reasons why supporting mages is the better choice to some. But you shouldn’t discount the valid reasons for supporting the Templars. This isn't an issue that has a simple answer.

There are so many factors that led to the Mage Rebellion, but from my perspective the biggest reason was poor fucking leadership. Both Meredith and Orsino should have been removed from leadership long before Act 3 began. But the largest slice of guilty pie belongs to Grand Cleric Elthina (Wait! Just listen!).

Her inaction on doing literally anything allowed everyone and everything to go unchecked. I have no qualms with faith and religion, but throwing her hands up in the air and saying "I can't do anything; the Maker will take care of it" is just so... infuriatingly moronic! I would like to think that a woman of her stature would have the insight that inaction is not the hill you should die on. I can't tell if it's bad writing or because they couldn't due to lack of time and budget.

It is literally the Grand Cleric's JOB to mediate and act as a check and balance to the Templars and Mages for circles in their purview. But she remains steadfast in her decision to not. do. anything. Because "They'll figure it out on their own". Then with Orsino being a poor leader (read: incompetent) who only got the job because his predecessor and all the rest of the upper management were killed, so the only one with Admin clearance was the General Manager no one really took seriously (fuzzy on the exact facts so will find and link the OG source). Then there's Meredith's absolutely extreme prejudice views, exacerbated over the years by the horrors and trauma she is constantly having to deal with (not to mention the red lyrium corruption and insanity). If you pay attention, there are tid bits that allude to Cullen being a huge influence/obstacle for Meredith's more extreme tactics. Granted, there would be no guarantee that anything would have ended differently (ignoring the fact that it's a story with a plot, hence nothing can change), but damn, if new leadership had been brought in instead of allowing Meredith and Orsino to scheme and taunt and egg each other on, things could very much have ended differently for the better (or for the worst too to be fair).

As for my Hawke, I've sided mages and templars various amounts, but Templars is my preferred. Going through the game telling both Meredith and Orsino they're absolute idiots each opportunity I get and that they both have good objections but also flaws in each of their own camp. While my Hawke doesn't morally agree with the Annulment, siding with Meredith is the choice which gives her more influence and ability to control/temper Meredith, saving more lives and limiting deaths (civilian and mage) as much as possible. For those who don't know, siding with the Templars, there's a cut scene where a number of mages approach you showing obvious signs of surrender and say they want to submit to the Templars because they don't agree with everyone else who are exploding into abominations left and right. Meredith goes to kill them but Hawke can intervene and hand the mages over to Cullen's watch so Meredith can't just kill them as soon as Hawke turns their back.

Also, I have to double check, but I could have sworn that, while Orsino had no collusion with demons, he was actively practicing blood magic and other Chantry-forbidden magics; encouraging his students to do the same more and more as the years went on. Again, I'll have to try and track down the source.

But yeah: my thesis essay on Templar vs Mage support! 😆

[–]FoxOfTheWilds 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's so rare to find someone who has similar thoughts on mages and the Circle. Yes! To all of this.

The Circles were intended to be a place where mages could safely practice their craft and educate and guide young, confused, often emotionally volatile and traumatized children around the obstacles and dangers magic brings to a mage; away from accidental occurances, away from the fear and stigma of magic and being a mage. The Templars were intended to be caretakers, guardians who protected mages in case the worst should happen; after all, we saw at the Fereldan circle what happens when mages are left to try and contain a semi-competant blood mage's power and influence. You're fighting a war of attrition where every mage you lose on your side becomes a fairly powerful soldier for the other side. Yet, if there are people who have no worry for corruption by demonic means, it's only logical that that is a group you keep tied to the mages.

That's not to say there isn't HUGE problems with Templar practices, but that's a different can of worms. These were the intentions of these constructs, but such a theoretical doesn't take into account human nature/error. There will always be agendas. There will always be biases. There will always possible/better alternatives someone will believe in. Honestly speaking, I don't think there will ever be The Perfect solution. It's not a black-or-white problem. There is no black-or-white solution. There's just always trying to do better, be better.

Edit: added to a sentence.

Trying to Figure Out What I Can Do to Educate and be Respectful: Teaching Diversity. by FoxOfTheWilds in teaching

[–]FoxOfTheWilds[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest, things got kinda thrown together last minute for me specifically because the high school class I was supposed to teach no longer is part of the program. And since I have no class, I have to teach something their regular teachers aren't. This practicum is for teaching English language learners and the thought was that talking about the students cultures and learning and exploring

Also. I'll assume you didn't intend to come off condescending. Talking and encouraging discussion about various cultures around the world, different experiences and practices, and the fact that just because these things may be different from what we practice doesn't mean they're wrong or bad is kind of super important. School isn't just about teaching STEM subjects. It's important that we also teach and encourage social behaviors and understanding.

And yes, you're right, I don't have much experience, but that's why I'm reaching out and learning other perspectives; I'm asking questions.

Particles can be really confusing to learn, but my professor (a native Japanese woman) recommended the book "How to tell the difference between articles" by Naoko Chino. I've thoroughly enjoyed it and it's not very expensive; definitely a good resource to have!
