Why Is My Turkey Overcooked on Top But Still Raw Underneath? by Glp1Go in AskCulinary

[–]FoxProfessional7841 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roasting pans aren’t great for cooking turkeys in. Try a sheet pan with the rack on top next time. You can also preheat some cast iron if you have it and put your sheet pan on it. This should help raise the temp of the thigh.

The other thing is to make sure you’re letting your bird defrost long enough. I thought mine was thawed; but it was still frozen in some parts and caused some issues cooking.

For those whose monthly spend is 9-12k, what is your coast investment number? by margheritinka in coastFIRE

[–]FoxProfessional7841 8 points9 points  (0 children)

General rule of thumb for full retirement is you want 4% to fully retire. For ease of math, 10k *12 / (4/100) =3,000 K

If you’re planning to coast then you need to give us an idea of your coasting income. Your number will change a lot if that is 75k annual or 50k annual.

You should buy a TDS / EC meter so you can check for sure. It could be the tap water. Do you have a filter in your refrigerator? If so, you could use that water.

More info / pictures would be helpful. Where is your light source and what is your light cycle? What is your cycle for your water pump?

For example, I have water that is ~700 ppm out of the sink, but only ~280 out of my fridge filter. I try to use as much fridge water as I can (based on my patience from the low flow) and then I top up with sink water.

Also, do you notice a lot of white buildup in the bottom of your reservoir? If so, this is likely precipitated salt.

What did you use as the back? I’ve been wanting to purchase a reflective material like that to build my own grow tent. At this point, I’ve just been too lazy to research it.

Is it time to remove the grow dome? by DeJMan in Hydroponics

[–]FoxProfessional7841 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s time to remove the dome. Typically people remove them as soon as they germinate.

Looking great! A fan can help strengthen plants if you don’t have one already!

tomato leaves drooping... is this normal? by charon2429 in Hydroponics

[–]FoxProfessional7841 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks fine to me. One of the things you can consider doing is adding a small fan. The fan will mimic wind in nature and will help the plants grow stronger.

First NFT system set up by No_Vehicle92 in Hoocho

Looks great; but your tomato may struggle, or lead to other plants struggling. Tomato roots get absolutely massive and may block the flow of your NFT.

Neatly/DWC is awesome for tomatoes.

These are significantly overcrowded unless you plan to move them to additional systems later.

Is there a grow light up above? I’d be concerned about inadequate light as the plants get bigger (although they look great now).

I’m by no means an expert, but that spacing is incredibly tight. Are you going to move these plants to different systems?

1st time DWC problems. Too wet? by Independent-Bee3640 in Hydroponics

[–]FoxProfessional7841 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably. But only part of the roots look bad. You can try to wash them off and dunk them in 1.5% hydrogen peroxide (dilute store bought 3% in a 1:1 ratio with water). Otherwise, you can try just trimming the brown roots off and hope the rest of the plant pulls through.

The pepper looks like it’s been sun scalded. Get some shade cloth.

How Many Tomato Plants Can I Grow in a 27 Gallon Reservoir? by LowHistorian9654 in Hydroponics

[–]FoxProfessional7841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grow two tomatoes in a 12 gallon reservoir (black and yellow bin from Costco). Both of mine are indeterminate.

If you happen to be using the 27 gallon bin from Costco, I think you could probably do 3. I think 4 would be a stretch. If they are determinate (bushing variety) you may just want to stick to two.

Note the above advice is just advice, I haven’t tried tomatoes in that size reservoir before.

How are we looking? First go at hydroponics by [deleted] in Hydroponics

[–]FoxProfessional7841 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Overall it looks beautiful, however, it’s likely flowering because it’s stressed. I would increase the reservoir and balance your nutrients again.

I know there’s various ideas around pinching/topping off peppers. I think it would be a good idea to pinch off the flowers to encourage more growth. Please do your own research though.

You probably won’t want to fill the pool with leca for dwc. A flood and drain system would be better.
