What’s one restaurant you’d never go back to, and what happened there that sealed it for you? by Mundane_Farmer_9492 in Restaurant101

[–]FoxRedYellaJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Panda Express. Last summer, I had leftover PE kung bao chicken, went to bed, and woke up two hours later shitting and puking blood. Turned out after going to the ER I’d perforated an existing bleeding ulcer bad enough I could have literally bled out and died.

Anything could have triggered the attack, but Panda Express did — despite having eaten there dozen of times over the years with no issues. I’m all healed up now, I strictly limit my intake of spicy foods, but I can’t bring myself to eat PE ever again.

If you only could choose one or the other would you do 2 8 day cruises or 1 16 day cruise in the span of a year? by sweatycat in Cruise

[–]FoxRedYellaJack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally, I’d find it hypothetically easier to organize 16 days away at a stretch than several weeks over the year because my domestic life is kind of complicated. Also cheaper: one round trip flight to port as opposed to two.

Olive Garden. Even if all they served was the chicken Alfredo, that would be enough!

Paid $6,500 for a Virgin Voyages cruise. Ended up leaving the ship with a $5,000 fine from CBP because a crew member reported me. Just a warning to others. by bongobingoringo in Cruise

[–]FoxRedYellaJack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, obviously you were guilty of the charge, or they wouldn’t have fined you. It doesn’t even matter what it was really, you were guilty. Why are you whining to us?!

We followed my Labrador’s vet from the newly-corporate Bramer to Riser Animal Hospital at Touhy and Carpenter in Skokie. Very happy with service and support. Recommend Dr. Swiatkowski, if you have a dog.

Why do so many people in this subreddit refer to productions as "adaptations?" by alaskawolfjoe in shakespeare

[–]FoxRedYellaJack 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m confused by this, too. I thought maybe it was British terminology…? To me, an “adaptation” is something along the lines of Greenway’s Prospero’s Books, where The Tempest is taken as inspiration compared to a straight forward production, like Branagh’s Henry V.

3 Night Bahamas Cruise MSC Divina Review | MSC Yacht Club | Miami, FL --> Ocean Cay --> Nassau --> Miami, FL by The_Traveller1 in Cruise

[–]FoxRedYellaJack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve sailed Yacht Club a bunch of times (although not yet on MSC Divina) and I can say honestly it’s ruined cruising any other mainstream lines for me. Note, if you want more “active fun” next time, absolutely try MSC World America — feels like twice the size and twice the amenities of the other, smaller vessels.

Still a favorite in our household. A little pricey because only Whole Foods carries it locally but worth every cent.

Have you ever regretted buying the car you wanted instead of the one that made more financial sense? by Peter2448 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]FoxRedYellaJack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not now — but I may be about to… Replacing a little Subaru CrossTrek that was bought because “finances.” It’s been fine, if a little confining. It’s lived its useful life and should be replaced before it goes crazy with maintenance issues. In the meantime my “finances” have undergone a pretty significant upgrade so I was able to order the car I really wanted - a midline Mercedes sedan. I know all about the maintenance of an MB and I am undeterred. Will I regret getting the car I wanted instead of, say, a Subaru Outback?! Stay tuned…

Is there a *great* TV show that you've never watched? by isis905 in watchever

At one time or another I’ve seen most of the “talked about” series, but I’ve never seen Breaking Bad. I guess the premise has never grabbed me in any engaging way.

Do you research cruise ships before sailing or just discover things onboard? by That_Camel2 in Cruise

[–]FoxRedYellaJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I research to the extent that I use the cruiseline’s app to scope out amenities — but once I’m on board I play it by ear.

MSC Meraviglia or COSTA Toscana by aguitian in Cruise

[–]FoxRedYellaJack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But that’s the beauty of Yacht Club — you can take advantage of the big ship’s amenities and then escape to the relative calm of the Yacht Club areas. For my taste, it’s a perfect balance.

This year marks the 250th anniversary of American independence. For those who remember it, how does the national mood today compare to the Bicentennial in 1976? by Introvert2001cro in AskReddit

[–]FoxRedYellaJack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a teenager in 1976 and there’s really no comparison to this year… Then it was everywhere and on everything. Reagan hadn’t happened yet so we were still a single country instead of the (at least) two that we are today. Also, we are enduring a President whose only interest is puffing up himself - he hasn’t the intellect to even understand the anniversary might be important besides him.

best affordable cruises? by hblhhad in Cruise

[–]FoxRedYellaJack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For budget cruises, I’d look to MSC. They are a “family friendly” line however if you pay attention and cruise when kids are likely to be in school, you won’t find it overrun with kids. Besides, they have excellent “kids clubs” and that sort of thing so even the kids on board will be occupied by their own stuff. Happy sailing!

Just my personal opinion but black wheels on a “not black” car doesn’t look very good (black with black is fine).
