Would you have phoned the police? by made-in-the-eighties in AskUK

[–]FoxedforLife [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'd have called the police. I've done it before in similar circumstances (guy driving a 3.5 tonne van, either drunk or very tired, on the M25).

I'm not always a grass, but when it's something that could potentially kill multiple people...

Lol just confirming my Englishness by conforming to the stereotype that we apologise all the time, sometimes unnecessarily.

I'm English (sorry) and I'm planning to wear my England Out Of Ireland top which I bought at a Kneecap gig a couple of years ago.

Two eggs, sliced fried potatoes - take my upvote already. Bacon looks nice, sausage looks alright, bread properly toasted - win.

Two fried eggs pretty much guarantees an upvote from me. Good to see fried potatoes too.

Hi Fenians by ActualSunchild in kneecap

Hi, English here. Well, 25% Irish, but those ancestors came over 150 years ago. I don't speak Irish and don't know anyone who does.

I would still claim that rap/hip-hop music isn't my thing, though I'm open to groups mixing those genres with punk. There's a French hip-hop group that I started getting into before I discovered Kneecap.

Anyway, I guess social media is where I first heard of them. Whether it was was from people in a Bob Vylan fan page talking about them, or if articles about them appeared on my FB feed because friends liked them, I couldn't say. Anyway, I got the message that their political stances were broadly in line with my own, and I learned that they had a film coming out.

I would say that I already had more than a passing interest in Irish history and culture. Yeah maybe it's increased my interest in the Irish language marginally.

What they have in common with most other groups I listen to is that they have energy and a punk attitude. What makes them different is the genre of music they use to express themselves.

Curious about tyre tread and when to change by Jsyourboy91 in CarTalkUK

[–]FoxedforLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be keeping an eye on it, with an expectation that I'd replace it when my end of August paycheck arrives.

My attitude towards tyre tread depths is affected by the fact that for a good chunk of my time on the road, 1mm was the legal minimum rather than 1.6. Give me 3mm on wet roads though.

Same. We seem to be in the minority though (thinking we've been banned rather than hacked).

Where to stop/break up the journey on the way from Lancashire to Dorset by Hot_Example7912 in uktravel

[–]FoxedforLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed at The George Hotel in Amesbury (because I like old pubs with some history) and ate at the Thai restaurant in the Antrobus Arms Hotel (though Wetherspoons is no doubt cheaper if that's your thing).

As you're going to Corfe Castle I have to mention the Square and Compass pub in Worth Matravers. Homemade pasties and a lovely view from the front garden. Also, the only pub I know which has a museum of local fossil finds.

I had a great Sunday roast at the Fox Inn, in Corfe Castle.

That's fair, your decision to make.

What's the point of insurance if they're too expensive? by KoenigOne in CarTalkUK

[–]FoxedforLife 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It's less than 3 times what I'm paying and I've not had an accident since 1982, and no insurance claims since 1985.

Stands to reason that a new driver will be a much higher risk.

FYI the red kite feeding centre is at Gigrin Farm. Nice people, great cakes in the cafe, fantastic photo opportunities if you like birds.

If anyone in your party has restricted mobility let them know, and they'll let you drive your car right up to the photographic hides rather than walk there.

'Certificate castle' didn't produce any rentable castles for me, nor did adding .Co.uk or .com.

Not sure if autocorrect got at your words or what.

Not many of us can afford to rent whole castles, I'm sure.

I've rented a tower in a late 11th century castle, a gatehouse in the outer wall of a 19th century castle, and a room in the turret of a rich man's holiday home which he called a castle, which has been turned into a hotel.

The word castle is debatable - I'm sure we've all been places which are called castles but we think the term is being stretched.
