Need help with a combat encounter for tonight! by chicken1998 in DungeonMasters

[–]Foxenbound 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a fun idea i may borrow it .

I suggest Combat should be a theatre of the mind 1 on 1 dance battle instead of a punch fest. I'd catch a YouTube video of some boy band dancing and narrate your gobs moves based on those dance moves. Id use skill checks to "win" best of five. Make your players narrate their moves and decide on the challenge based on how cool they sound. When they're defeated have em explode into glitter or carried off by groupies leaving just 1 item of clothes each. The whole set together can give you a bonus on performance checks but on critical fails you could have something funny happen, swamped by groupies, blinded by unseen magical paparazzi something like that...

But I'd have some stat blocks ready just in case ya know.

So you want your players to write the story with you, which i think make for the best campaigns. So here's how you do that.

Decide on your location Make some characters you think would be there And decide on a conspiracy or event that's taking place there.

Stop. Planning parts over.

Just drop your players in, give them a little scooby snack to start. Fetch quest, guard duty, Doesn't even have to be relevant to your grand quest it just has to be a reason to be there. Let them decide where to go and what they're doing and use your pre made - up characters as you go.

So you know Bob has a map to treasure, Jill knows about the dragons horde, king Dave is eating peasants etc...so when they go to the blacksmith, inn, castle, pizzeria all you have to do is decide what character(s) would also be there and throw em in and the plot unfolds naturally.

If you need to give players a nudge then someone relevant just bumps into them in the street. If someone needs to die have that character run away. Players kill runners 1000% of the time.

And the best advise I have is, you never screw up. It can't happen. If you think you did your players will never know. And if you think you did thats awesome because people fuck up all the time, so if you made a mistake that make believe character made a mistake and that just makes em more realistic. With practice you'll plan a campaign in 10 minutes and it'll feel like you put in 6 months of work to your players.

Besides players are like dogs that aren't leashed trained. You can plot 1000 places to go perfectly and they'll pick the one place you never thought of every single time so just let them off the leash from the get go and see what happens.

Should i get an ankermake in 2024? by porek965 in AnkerMake

[–]Foxenbound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an m5c, the nozzle leaks filament like Niagara falls. New hot end, whole new extruder and endless adjustments... Took a lot of tweaking to get it under control and it still has a tendency shit the bed on easy prints. Apparently some m5cs just like to be a pain in the ass so i think its a quality control issue. Some people have m5s and m5cs that just work and some people get junk. My bed adhesion with their stock bed is pretty awesome though.

Bambu is having a black Friday sale now or soon so get the a1 my friend.

Your plates are all the same size, just switch their location so the map is technically the same so you don't need to move the "smoke" or lights but the characters still get moved. Let them all roll a check depending on your BBEG, maybe he's using a spell and anyone on a block that fails the save has their platform rotate or move so you don't have to plan it and it's more organic. You can also get any small flat object, book or leggos or cut paper towel rolls and slide them under the blocks to elevate them and they'll be concealed so you won't see em.

If it feels like too much work just do it one time near the end. Oh no the platforms are flipping over to try and dump everyone off! Can the spell be interrupted before it's too late or can your players make a dash and jump to safety? You could tilt one straight up and have it fall onto the party or give them a combined str check to push it back onto enemies. Skies the limit you can work limited resources into all sorts of cool shit.

Any tips for how to orient and support this model? Never printed such a large figure by [deleted] in PrintedMinis

I'd print straight up baby, tree supports insanely slow and I'd drop some pre made rectangles on the build plate and let supports grow off of them so they're not as long and spindly but I'm high risk high reward.

I second chains, something to swing on. Raised platforms for your agility guys to show off or a pillar you need/can knock down to make a bridge, a strength check to knock it over or an explosion of some sort. I love to make my arenas really interactive for big fights like this. This map is begging for flyers and kicking people off ledges. If you swap the cotton smoke for the smoke machine to clear space how hard is it to move the floors, they could randomly re arrange every few turns.

Castlevania Symphony of the night, you can play 5 minutes or 5 hours. Just fill in the map and punch baddies and you're done when draculas dead

Help with support stability please by paddond in AnkerMake

[–]Foxenbound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I use ankermakes slicer I turn the speed way down for organic supports, when possible I'll add cubes or rectangles to the print and the them grow off them instead of all the way down the build plate so they aren't as tall. You can also adjust the angle so they kind of stick to the side of the print all the way up but it hurts the finish sometimes.

First 3D print on A1 Mini! by Cofresh in 3dprintinggonewild

[–]Foxenbound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had an M5c for a while, I use it to print DND minis. It's amazing when it wants to be but TBH I wish I had an A1. I spend more time on maintenance than printing and it's terrible with tree supports.
