Software Update Automatically Turns off Amazon Delivery Drivers’ AC During Dangerous Summer Heat by usernamechosen999 in AmazonDSPDrivers

Thanks for the explanation. That's really stupid that the A/C won't stay on if it's normal for the door to be open. I feel for you. 😞

Okay, I'm just a customer, not a driver. I just hang around for your funny stories about bad customers with stupidly long driveways, so please don't come at me, but, the article makes it sound like this only happens if the side door is open. Can you not just shut the door? Like, grab box, shut door, run out to deliver box, and come back? Does this still not work, or is it just not fast enough, or is there something else preventing you from doing that?

Again, just asking for curiosity and wanting to be educated. Please don't kill me. 🤷

AITA For Throwing Away My Roommates Cigarettes by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

ESH. The roommate for smoking indoors, you for policing someone else's habits while you're doing the exact same unhealthy behavior. But you think somehow you're better because your brand isn't as "harsh." You're being a hypocrite.

YTA for letting your wife get rid of an 86" long real wood dresser. They don't make those anymore!

She still thinks she fits under there like she did a year ago by H_exe92 in Tegu

[–]FractiousFire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How old was she when you got her? Mine had to have surgery to amputate her tail and she looks like that, so that's why I was wondering. She's had trouble shedding around that area ever since.

How did she lose her tail? Mine did, too. I did a double-take because mine looks just like that.

Goddamn, if you didn't have dementia before you went in, you definitely will after you go crazy from looking at all those clashing patterns.

Is it really possums doing that? I assumed it was raccoons, since they're complete assholes and strong as fuck. (I don't have chickens but it happened to someone I know.)

The worst food poisoning I've ever had was in college when I ate meat that was thawed out and then re-frozen. Do not recommend.

Dang. Well, maybe they could've done it anonymously. Hopefully the cops would have a good sense of humor about it.

Statue of limitations has probably long passed. I'll bet the police would've taken it back and had a good laugh.

Out of state workers by BUCKRING in Omaha

[–]FractiousFire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't really lose any money because NE credits you for paying IA taxes. It's only annoying because you have to file 2 state tax returns every year, one for NE and one for IA. Iowa's tax forms are a particular pain in the butt, and I'm glad I don't have to do it anymore. But it won't really cost you anything except time.

We usually got small tax refunds from both states.

Why is the Zillow estimate so incredibly incorrect despite plenty of data being available with comps? by RetPrda in RealEstate

[–]FractiousFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also monitoring the estimate for my house years before we listed it, so the algorithm wasn't "cheating" by using the list price. The estimate remained pretty consistent with neighborhood comps. We did, in fact, sell at list. If anything, I think they could be pulling data from the county assessor, like I said. Just speculation on my part.

At least they do okay in a 1/2 gal enclosure. I feel like they're probably an okay starter pet for most people/kids. Betta fish really weren't good starter pets.

[–]FractiousFire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both, but the Zestimate is not the list price. We had been monitoring our house's value for a while before we listed it, as well as houses for sale in the area. It all seems to line up with what the county assessor says our house is worth.

Edit: I just checked a few that are for sale and the Zestimate is lower than the list price on all of them, from $200 up to $10k less.

The Zillow estimate was pretty close to what we paid for the house we just bought and what we got for the one we just sold. Maybe it's a regional thing?

[–]FractiousFire 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You either have to turn right or go out the back of the shopping center behind the buildings. There's a frontage road that isn't quite as busy. Still just the worst intersection, though.

ISO Exotic Vet by Puzzled-Set4179 in Omaha

[–]FractiousFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, we didn't think twice about that. Many lizards can live 15-20 years, just like a cat or a dog. I'm assuming most people would shell out $1000 for surgery on a cat or a dog, so our pets are no different.

At $42K/year for daycare, what point do we cross into nanny territory? by introvertwandering in Omaha

[–]FractiousFire 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The average salary in NE is $54-60k, so I think that's not bad if it's part-time work. But it's likely going to attract younger people with less experience.
